external hard drive excluded from computer

I recently recieved a Dell Optiplex GX520 computer with Windows Xp Pro Sp2, and I connected a Western Digital My Book 1TB External Hard Drive, Everything worked fine until 2/19/10 When I installed a new video driver. I started seeing "Windows-Delayed Write Failed" messages. I tried a solution that I found online it didnt work. My Brother-in-Law suggested that I go into the policies tab and changeing the setting from "Quick Disconnect" to "Opimized for Performance" when I did this, the computer promted me to restart the computer, when Windows restarted I found that the computer could no longer see the external hard drive. I tried to perform a system restore but recieved a message: The Changes To Drives N:/M:/L:/K: cannot be reverced because the drive has been excluded from the computer. i would be greatful for any help. Thank You

Trying to help fix my neighbor's computer

My neighbor just purchased a COMPAQ Presario with Windows Vista. However, there have been a few problems with it. For a brand new computer it runs very sloooooooow, she has a cable modem connected but it takes up to 15 minutes for the browser to pop up (she uses Firefox v. 2.0.0.6) and intermittently the keyboard and mouse suddenly stops working, The computer doesn't freeze, the keyboard and mouse just doesn't work and the only way get them to work again is to power down the computer and restart it. Any ideas?

  4. Make sure that at least one hard drive is formatted using the FAT32 file system. To Check use the following instructions: 1. Click Start>My Computer 2. Right Click Local Drive (Drive Letter:) 3. Click Properties> Tools> Defragment Now 4. Look at the list at the top of the screen under "File System" If at least one one drive is Formatted in the FAT32 File System "Star Trek New Worlds" will work on this drive, if installed on this drive. If all drives are formatted in the NTFS File System you have Two ways to proceed: 1. You can Reformat and partition off a portion of one hard drive in the FAT32 file system (1GB Recommended) 2. You Can find a 1GB Hard Drive an format it in the FAT32 File System. Once the program has installed. Click Start>My Computer>Local Drives(Drive Letter:)>Interplay Entertainment Corp> New Worlds Right Click STNW Click Properties> Compatibility Set Compatibility to Windows 95 and Click OK Click Shortcut to STNW and Enjoy!
