Gas Powered Games are following up their success with Dungeon Siege by releasing a space fared romp aptly titled Space Siege. While the title naming convention is hardly awe-inspiring there is hope that the new title will recapture some of the excitement most of us remember with the original hack 'n slash. http://www.driverheaven.net/gamingreviews.php?reviewid=625 DriverHeaven and GamingHeaven News Mailer

TITLE: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card 100251SR ( -at -) Benchmark Reviews DESCRIPTION: Technology doesn't play favorites, and when it reaches an apex there is an indifference towards who develops it. ATI has learned this lesson the hard way, having watched from the sidelines for so long that most have forgotten that AMD could be a leader in technology. The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is the latest evolution in graphics cards, and ATI has delivered something bigger than we've ever seen before. Benchmark Reviews is fortunate to test the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 X2 Dual-RV770 GPU video card 100251SR against a collection of todays hottest video cards available. Kingston HyperX PC3-14400 2GB Memory Kit Review @ HardwareLogic

*Title:* Kingston HyperX PC3-14400 2GB Memory Kit Review ( -at -) HardwareLogic *Quote:* "Listen up folks, the DDR3 era is upon us. Both Intel and AMD have adopted the newer standard, and with Intel's Core i7 (the chip formerly known as Nehalem) peeking around the corner, there's just no looking back. Despite the temptation posed by dirt-cheap DDR2 modules, any build from the ground up should be focused on DDR3, save for those on an extremely tight budget. Newer processors are finally starting to benefit from the added benefit, and each new chipset release finds new ways of optimizing memory performance, making those DDR2 modules seem ancient by comparison." *Link:* http://www.hardwarelogic.com/news/134/ARTICLE/3416/2008-08-18.html -
A Futurelooks News Flash - Super Talent PICO-C Gold 8GB USB Flash Drive Review
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Hello Again, Futurelooks checks out quite possibly the smallest USB drive there is...with some bling... Super Talent PICO-C Gold 8GB USB Flash Drive Review There are two things that immediately struck me about this particular USB flash drive from the folks at Super Talent. First, this thing is bloody tiny. It’s not appropriate to call it a thumb drive at all because this USB drive is actually quite a bit smaller than the average adult thumb. It’s more appropriate to call it a USB stick or something. Pinky perhaps? When the drive can be almost completely occluded by a quarter, you know that it’s ridiculously small. HYDRA Engine by Lucid - Multi-GPU Technology with No Strings Attached
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Before IDF kicks off tomorrow, I got a sneak peek at some incredibly interesting new technology called HYDRA. This start-up company promises to scale GPUs at nearly linear rates and is completely chipset and GPU technology independent. Is it worthy of the hype? URL: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=607 Quote: "The distribution engine as it is called is responsible for reading the information passed from the game or application to DirectX before it gets to the NVIDIA or AMD drivers. There the engine breaks up the various blocks of information into "tasks" - a task is a specific job that HYDRA defines that can be passed to any of the 2-4 GPUs in the system. A task might be something like a specific lighting effect, a post processing run, a specific model being drawn, etc. The company founders on hand at the meeting were a little vague about the algorithms that decide how, and what parts, of the DirectX data are going to be defined as "tasks" - it is obvious that this is part of the magic that gives HYDRA its power; it is with these task definitions that the hardware logic can efficiently distribute the work load across many GPUs." A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the ATP EarthDrive Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "The ATP EarthDrive uses a manufacturing process called "System in Packaging" that, according to ATP Electronics' website, "encapsulates all exposed components and points of failure." This means that the drive should be very durable and waterproof. I'm sure you all want to know if this SIP process works, so I dunked the EarthDrive in water for about an hour. After I let the drive dry off (so I don't burn up my own USB ports), I plugged it into my laptop, and it came right up with no problems. Now, you no longer have to worry about ruining your flash drive if it goes through the washer - but you probably shouldn't put it through the wash, just to be on the safe side." News - Corsair TX750W Power Supply Review at Overclockers Online
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Greetings, Overclockers Online has posted a new review. A news post would be greatly appreciated. Title: Corsair TX750W Power Supply Review at Overclockers Online Link: http://www.overclockersonline.net/?page=articles&num=1931 Quote: For a unit that performs as well as those which double it in terms of cost, Corsair's TX750W is quite a contender. Uncommon to most budget power supplies, Corsair has neither fallen short on performance or features. Shrugging off each of our tests is a feat of its own, but matched with perks found commonly in much more expensive units such as a beautiful paint job, quality fan, fully sleeved wires and matching black Molex connectors, I must honestly say, this is pretty much as good as it gets. Thanks for the post. Best regards, Simon Lau _______________________________________________ -

One of the more exciting thing for me this release is the fact that the Orca community continues to grow. In particular, the mysterious Jon Orcauser continues to contribute in increasingly sophisticated ways, and more and more people are testing patches and using bugzilla. =============== * What is Orca? =============== Orca is a free, open source, flexible, and extensible screen reader that provides access to the graphical desktop via user-customizable combinations of speech, braille, and/or magnification. Orca development has been led by the Sun Microsystems, Inc., Accessibility Program Office via continued engagement with its end users and generous contributions from the Mozilla Foundation and wonderful community members. The Orca v2.23.90 release is targeted for the GNOME v2.23.90 development release and requires the latest at-spi/pyatspi infrastructure from GNOME v2.23.90, including atk and gail. You can also read more about Orca at http://live.gnome.org/Orca. =================================== * What's changed for Orca v2.23.90? =================================== 2.23.90 - 18-Aug-2008 General: * Use DBus only if DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS is defined so as to avoid unexpected launching of a DBus daemon * Fix for bug #536985 - Orca no longer reads applets on the panel * Fix for bug #540123 – Tutor help messages with orca. (Many many thanks to Mesar Hameed for his hard work here and to Hammer Attila for testing) * Fix for bug #540187 - Wrapped structural navigation toggle. (Thanks Mesar!) * Fix for bug #546277 - Traceback when accessing "User Privileges" tab of "Account Properties" dialog of "User Settings". * Fix for bug #546660 - The speaking of progress bars should be turned on by default * Fix for bug #547938 - Magnifier should follow Alt+Tab * Fix for bug #547895 - make distcheck fails with intltools 0.40.0 Firefox/Thunderbird: * Work on bug #535178 - In Gecko, we should get the needed text for the speech and braille contexts while building up the line. Also fixes bug #527819 – Orca sometimes says "list" between items when the list is on a single line in FF3. * Fix for bug #535183 - Word navigation is inconsistent in Thunderbird and Firefox. * Work on bug #542833 - Flat review in Thunderbird is largely broken. This part of the fix should stop us from hanging if flat review is invoked with a message list with thousands of messages and should ensure that we don't review things that are not actually on the screen. There is still more work that needs to be done on this bug. * Fix for bug #546355 - The ARIA gmail interface is largely unusable with Orca * Fix for bug #546895 - Braille context includes previous menu item in HTML combo boxes. * Fix for bug #547345 - Can't always "Alt+Tab" back into Thunderbird or Firefox New and updated translations (THANKS EVERYONE!!!): ar Arabic Djihed Afifi es Spanish Francisco Javier Dorado Martinez and Jorge Gonzalez fi Finnish Ilkka Tuohela gl Galician Ignacio Casal Quinteiro pt Portuguese Duarte Loreto ru Russian Nickolay V. Except for unforeseen last-minute problems, there should be no more API changes between this release and the final 2.18 release. * Bugs should be reported to http://bugzilla.gnome.org. About GLib ========== GLib is the low-level core library that forms the basis for projects such as GTK+ and GNOME. It provides data structure handling for C, portability wrappers, and interfaces for such runtime functionality as an event loop, threads, dynamic loading, and an object system. More information about GLib is available at: http://www.gtk.org/ An installation guide for the GTK+ libraries, including GLib, can be found at: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-building.html Overview of Changes from GLib 2.17.6 to GLib 2.17.7 =================================================== * More fixes for 64-bit Windows * GIO - Add a vfs implementation for HTTP and HTTPS URIs on Windows * Bugs fixed: 546329 API docs for g_utf8_normalize() are incorrect 546876 Modify GMarkup parser to accept .. 547200 g_utf8_find_next_char() issues 547637 unconditional #include of sys/statfs.h in configure 547337 G_DISABLE_DEPRECATED breaks tests build 547832 gtk+-2.12.11 fails to build - AC_PROG_MMAP too strict 502498 Test framework assertion failures should follow gcc 546371 Improve docs re g_file_monitor 546483 GThemedIcon:use-default-fallbacks is not readable without... 546132 GFileIcon is bindings-unfriendly 542156 zfs mount in home directory shown on nautilus desktop 535124 umask 002 not being applied for new directories... 547080 g_file_copy leaks expected errors 546582 Callbacks from GFileMonitor present a GFile... 547262 Missing link in the docs * Updated translations: Arabic (ar) Catalan (ca) Spanish (es) Basque (eu) Finnish (fi) Galician (gl) Hebrew (he) Marathi (mr) Norwegian bokmål (nb) Portugese (pt) Brazilian Portugese (pt_BR) Swedish (sv) Thai (th) Thanks to all contributors Tor Lillqvist Sven Neumann Ryan Lortie Behdad Esfahbod Federico Mena Quintero Kalle Vahlman Peter O'Gorman Tim Janik Paul Pogonyshev Loïc Minier Felix Riemann Erik van Pienbroek Padraig O'Briain Bastien Nocera August 18, 2008 Matthias Clasen _______________________________________________
