2. Hi all, We have just published a review of the *Asus CrossHair II Formula motherboard*. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/08/15/asus-crosshair-ii-formula/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/08/asus-crosshair-ii-formula/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */The original CrossHair was great, at the time, but we feel the CrossHair II is one to miss. I think Asus has done what it can with what Nvidia and AMD has handed over, but ultimately there are better products elsewhere that can be had for a fraction of the price. The swanky pants Republic of Gamer board might do a lot of things pretty well, but nothing spectacularly like you'd expect. It feels decidedly average at the end of the day, and we don't drop £150 on an average product./ * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

  9. We are pleased to announce version 0.3.5 of Vala, a compiler for the GObject type system. Vala 0.3.5 is now available for download at: http://download.gnome.org/sources/vala/0.3/ Changes since 0.3.4 * Notify on property changes by default (Jared Moore) * Add unique-1.0 bindings (Phil Housley) * Updates to the GLib, GTK+, and GStreamer bindings. * Many bug fixes. Vala is a new programming language that aims to bring modern programming language features to GNOME developers without imposing any additional runtime requirements and without using a different ABI compared to applications and libraries written in C. valac, the Vala compiler, is a self-hosting compiler that translates Vala source code into C source and header files. It uses the GObject type system to create classes and interfaces declared in the Vala source code. It's also planned to generate GIDL files when gobject- introspection is ready. The syntax of Vala is similar to C#, modified to better fit the GObject type system. Vala supports modern language features as the following: * Interfaces * Properties * Signals * Foreach * Lambda expressions * Type inference for local variables * Generics * Non-null types * Assisted memory management * Exception handling Vala is designed to allow access to existing C libraries, especially GObject-based libraries, without the need for runtime bindings. Each to be used library requires a Vala API file at compile-time, containing the class and method declarations in Vala syntax. Vala currently comes with bindings for current versions of GLib, GTK+, and many more. Using classes and methods written in Vala from an application written in C is not difficult. The Vala library only has to install the generated header files and C applications may then access the GObject-based API of the Vala library as usual. It should also be easily possible to write a bindings generator for access to Vala libraries from applications written in e.g. C# as the Vala parser is written as a library, so that all compile-time information is available when generating a binding. More information about Vala is available at http://live.gnome.org/Vala The Vala Team Jürg Billeter and Raffaele Sandrini _______________________________________________

  11. Socket 1366 Heatsinks in the Frostytech Labs "The first Intel socket LGA1366 heatsinks have landed in the Frostytech labs from a well known heatsink company whose name we can't mention, and we expect to have a full collection of LGA1366 heastink reviews shortly. In the mean time, answers to questions like: 1). Will current Intel socket 775 heatsinks fit on Intel socket 1366 motherboards? 3). Do Nehalem socket 1366 heatsinks use the plastic push pin clips, or something new? 2). If I use a socket 775-to-1366 adaptor bracket to make my existing Intel heatsink fit onto a Socket 1366 motherboard, is that okay? 14. Hi all, We've just posted a new review of ECS' latest Black Series' edition board, the P45T-A. Title: ECS "Black Series" P45T-A ( -at -) Techgage Link: http://techgage.com/article/ecs_black_series_p45t-a/ Quote: Need to build a new rig on the cheap? Need modest Crossfire support, and a decent feature-set? The ECS P45T-A might be worthy of your consideration, as it packs in a good amount of functionality, solid performance, a cool color scheme and of course, a good price tag, of around $110.
  15. Hi all, We have just published a review of *Kobalt's Comanche SLI gaming notebook*. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/08/15/kobalt-comanche-sli/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/08/kobalt-comanche-sli/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */All in all, the Kobalt Comanche SLI gaming notebook is like pretty much every other gaming notebook on the market for the most part. It has the usual draw backs of being big and heavy, with a poor battery life, but the perks of being ostensibly portable, compact and undeniably good looking. Going within, the hardware is unfailingly impressive. There's an intimi[censored] SLI set-up that can handle the latest games at high resolutions and there's so much hard drive space that you could probably put all the [censored] in the world and still have some wiggle room left over. There are issues, as always. The machine doesn't massively outperform the competition despite the technical spec that's longer than my arm and the amount of heat that comes rippling out of the chassis is likely to leave you seeing mirages unless you have a glass of water inadvisably close by. Still, as an extension of your e-peen and as a unit in itself Kobalt's Comanche SLI holds up nicely, with some lovely extras and enough hardware to last it into the next decade without hitting any barriers. Hopefully./ * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net
  16. Hello Again, Futurelooks checks out some goods for budget minded students heading back... Back to School 2008: Dorm-Friendly Tech for Budget-Minded Students Yes, I know. You’re still out there enjoying the sun at the beach, maybe tossing the Frisbee around or playing a little volleyball. As you get ready to go back to school, Futurelooks is here to help you find the technology that will make the experience a little easier, a little more comfortable, and maybe even a little more stylish too. 18. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the NZXT Sentry LX Fan Controller Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "Compared to its predecessor the Sentry 1, the LX can control three more fans and gather two more temperature readings. It's a good thing, because nowadays, cases tend to have more and more fans. The fact that it occupies two drive bays instead of one allows for a bigger screen to display all of the information at the same time. So you don't need to push any buttons to see the information you want, something that you needed to do with the Sentry 1." 19. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Storage) - Thermaltake BlacX eSATA & USB 2.0 Dock QUOTE: "I have already taken a look at the BlacX USB and BlacX SE which is also a USB only desktop drive device. The Thermaltake BlacX units have started a new class in hard drive storage. You can’t really call them carriers since you don’t take them with you on the go, nor can you call them internal hot swap since they do not sit inside the case. I guess for now, until someone tells me differently we will call them desktop hot swap devices. The first two USB only BlacX units we looked at performed brilliantly for USB. In the back of my mind, though, I knew the transfer performance was being held up by the connection and recommended to everyone to just hang tight and wait until the eSATA version became available. Today we have this version in hand; the BlacX (part number ST0005U) with eSATA support has finally made its way to my door step and even though I have other articles that need to be written up first, I just had to see how this baby performs." 20. Today we look at the PowerColor HD 4870. SNIP: A few weeks ago the world was greeted to a sight many people only read about. The sight I am referring to is the dead coming back to life. No I'm not talking about the next Robert Rodriguez joint. I am talking about the rebirth of ATI and their return to the forefront of PC gaming. In an event that took the world, and NVIDIA, by surprise ATI unleashed their HD 4800 series of cards upon us. With performance levels far surpassing the previous generation and coming in at a price reserved for lesser cards, is it any wonder ATI was able to return to their former glory overnight? Today's review comes in the form of the HD 4870 from PowerColor. Armed with 800 stream processors and ridiculously fast DDR5 memory, the PowerColor HD 4870 is ready to take the battle to NVIDIA. http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1322 A post on your site would be great if you can. Thank you, Scott -----------------------------------------

Like magic, BurnAgain FS re-mounts a data CD or DVD in a writeable way just like a hard drive volume, making it possible to change the content of a data CD or DVD simply using the Finder. At any time the changes can be burned to the media. The user can re-mount the disk and add or remove files, or even edit and change them. This can be done several times with CDR, CDRW, DVD+RW and DVD-RW disks until the media is full. Additionally, the title of the disk can be changed prior to each burn as well. Without any additional software, disks burned with BurnAgain FS are readable on all platforms, automatically preserving special Mac file attributes (resource forks). And since BurnAgain FS doesn't erase the disk each time, its much faster. The update to 1.0.3 improves handing of large files and using Quicklook and Finder Preview on BurnAgain FS volumes. The new version also includes a fix for issues occurring when using multiple devices. The update is free for all BurnAgain FS users. 24. Title: Audio-Technica ATH-CK7 Canal Headphones Reviewed ( -at -) TheTechLounge Quote: "So, are they truly studio-quality? Eh, if you had a studio you wouldn't put up with the sweepingly uneven amplification. You can compensate for it, and get some very impressive sound from these ATH- CK7s--rolls off the tongue, don't it?--but then they're going to be tied to whatever device you've got them plugged into. I can't use these with both my media player and my PC, because once I switch from my PC speakers, I have to reset my equalizer. And they would be a total waste if my media player didn't have a multi-band, customizable equalizer. There's no preset in the world that can correct for these babies."
