  1. MediaSilo key for ABC's Wipeout! - Published on 08/04/08 MediaSilo, an online video collaboration tool, helps Wipeout!'s producers to cast and select a show host. Casting costs and schedules were drastically reduced by using this month-to-month subscription service. MediaSilo's suite of online tools bridge the geographic and temporal divide production teams face by offering centralized video asset management, online review tools, and web-based deployment options - all in one platform. Boston, Massachusetts - MediaSilo is a new suite of online tools that bridge the geographic and temporal divide production teams face by offering centralized video asset management, online review tools, and web-based deployment options - all in one platform. Casting ABC's Tuesday night hit Wipeout!, presented a monumental task for Endemol USA, the show's producers. However, online video collaboration and content management leaders MediaSilo enabled the casting team to streamline the process and cut costs and schedules in half. "I budgeted ten weeks for this project," said Mikey Glaser, freelance casting director. "With MediaSilo, I did it in five." Glaser also said similar projects would require up to ten casting assistants, but in using MediaSilo he was able to complete the project with just one. Wipeout!, is just one of many examples of Hollywood's move to MediaSilo for pre-production projects like casting, collaboration and approval. Other clients include Fremantle Media and TBS. "It's a great fit," says MediaSilo CEO Kai Pradel. "MediaSilo was born from a production environment, so our workflow is custom tailored to casting workflows." "Wipeout! is a good example of how the MediaSilo online tool suite can cut costs and dramatically increase productivity in the demanding and time-sensitive network or syndication production environment," he said. "I'll never do another project without it," added Glaser. MediaSilo recently announced an aggressive pricing structure offering limited free service and an unlimited storage and bandwidth solution for $99 USD a month. The new pricing packages are believed to be the most competitive in the industry. Pricing and plans are also featured on the company's website. 7. Hey Everyone, This email is to announce Tomboy 0.11.1, the second development release in the 0.11.x series. As part of our ongoing effort to remove dependencies on the unmaintained libegg, Stefan Cosma has ported our tray icon code to use the newer GtkStatusIcon found in GTK+ 2.10. Though we haven't noticed any regressions, there have been a lot of changes in the tray and applet code. So if you notice *any* strange behaviors, PLEASE remember to file a bug so we can get them fixed ASAP. :-) Note to packagers: `make install` from the tarball will now also install the .mdb files needed to get good debug output from Tomboy. Users can now run Tomboy in debug mode by passing it the --debug flag (in past versions you had to set a $MONO_EXTRA_ARGS env var). Tomboy is a simple personal note-taking application designed to be unobtrusive and friendly, while supporting inter-note-links similar to a WikiWikiWeb to help you organize your notes and ideas. It can run either as a GNOME panel applet or a notification tray icon. Tomboy's Website: http://www.gnome.org/projects/tomboy Tomboy's Wiki: http://live.gnome.org/Tomboy * Road Map: http://live.gnome.org/Tomboy/RoadMap * Brainstorming: http://live.gnome.org/Tomboy/PlaceForNewIdeas Tomboy is available at: http://download.gnome.org/sources/tomboy/0.11/tomboy-0.11.1.tar.gz md5sum: 78a5f1438a0277228328fd51eb841844 size: 4.2M http://download.gnome.org/sources/tomboy/0.11/tomboy-0.11.1.tar.bz2 md5sum: 7c1b8db66fa3256603ee39689e65b046 size: 3.5M This release includes the following: Version 0.11.1 * New tray icon code using GtkStatusIcon (kill libegg, #349265, Stefan Cosma). * Fix crashers: #544406, #460642, #544996, #523035 * Fix bugzilla addin to accept bug IDs of one or more digits (#533024). * Fix behavior when start note is recreated (#508982, Jon Lund Steffensen) * Include .mdb files during install. 11. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ===================================================================== Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Important: kernel security and bug fix update Advisory ID: RHSA-2008:0612-01 Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advisory URL: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2008-0612.html Issue date: 2008-08-04 CVE Names: CVE-2008-2136 CVE-2008-1294 CVE-2008-2812 ===================================================================== 1. Summary: Updated kernel packages that fix various security issues and several bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. This update has been rated as having important security impact by the Red Hat Security Response Team. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop (v. 5 client) - i386, noarch, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux (v. 5 server) - i386, ia64, noarch, ppc, s390x, x86_64 3. Description: The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. These updated packages fix the following security issues: * a possible kernel memory leak was found in the Linux kernel Simple Internet Transition (SIT) INET6 implementation. This could allow a local unprivileged user to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2008-2136, Important) * a flaw was found in the Linux kernel setrlimit system call, when setting RLIMIT_CPU to a certain value. This could allow a local unprivileged user to bypass the CPU time limit. (CVE-2008-1294, Moderate) * multiple NULL pointer dereferences were found in various Linux kernel network drivers. These drivers were missing checks for terminal validity, which could allow privilege escalation. (CVE-2008-2812, Moderate) These updated packages fix the following bugs: * the GNU libc stub resolver is a minimal resolver that works with Domain Name System (DNS) servers to satisfy requests from applications for names. The GNU libc stub resolver did not specify a source UDP port, and therefore used predictable port numbers. This could have made DNS spoofing attacks easier. The Linux kernel has been updated to implement random UDP source ports where none are specified by an application. This allows applications, such as those using the GNU libc stub resolver, to use random UDP source ports, helping to make DNS spoofing attacks harder. * when using certain hardware, a bug in UART_BUG_TXEN may have caused incorrect hardware detection, causing data flow to "/dev/ttyS1" to hang. * a 50-75% drop in NFS server rewrite performance, compared to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.6, has been resolved. * due a bug in the fast userspace mutex code, while one thread fetched a pointer, another thread may have removed it, causing the first thread to fetch the wrong pointer, possibly causing a system crash. * on certain Hitachi hardware, removing the "uhci_hcd" module caused a kernel oops, and the following error: BUG: warning at arch/ia64/kernel/iosapic.c:1001/iosapic_unregister_intr() Even after the "uhci_hcd" module was reloaded, there was no access to USB devices. As well, on systems that have legacy interrupts, "acpi_unregister_gsi" incorrectly called "iosapci_unregister_intr()", causing warning messages to be logged. * when a page was mapped with mmap(), and "PROT_WRITE" was the only "prot" argument, the first read of that page caused a segmentation fault. If the page was read after it was written to, no fault occurred. This was incompatible with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 behavior. * due to a NULL pointer dereference in powernowk8_init(), a panic may have occurred. * certain error conditions handled by the bonding sysfs interface could have left rtnl_lock() unbalanced, either by locking and returning without unlocking, or by unlocking when it did not lock, possibly causing a "kernel: RTNL: assertion failed at net/core/fib_rules.c" error. * the kernel currently expects a maximum of six Machine Check Exception (MCE) banks to be exposed by a CPU. Certain CPUs have 7 or more, which may have caused the MCE to be incorrectly reported. * a race condition in UNIX domain sockets may have caused recv() to return zero. For clusters, this may have caused unexpected failovers. * msgrcv() frequently returned an incorrect "ERESTARTNOHAND (514)" error number. * on certain Intel Itanium-based systems, when kdump was configured to halt the system after a dump operation, after the "System halted." output, the kernel continued to output endless "soft lockup" messages. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches to resolve these issues. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via Red Hat Network. 16. Hi, It's Kristofer from DragonSteelMods, and I have a new review today that I think your readers might find interesting. Title: Xigmatek SD964 HDT CPU Cooler Review ( -at -) DragonSteelMods Review Link: http://www.dragonsteelmods.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8814&Itemid=1 Review Snipit: "Up on the review block today I've got one from Xigmatek, it's the SD964 HDT CPU cooler, not a real fancy name, but then again what's in a name right? It really doesn't matter what it's called as long as it performs! The SD964 is a small heatpipe style CPU cooler, at least in comparison to others on the market today, but it is by no means small in terms of performance. The SD964 dominates over most others out there in our tests on both C2D and C2Q CPUs... 20. Hi all, We have just published Fallout 3 Hands-on Preview. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link: http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/08/04/fallout-3-hands-on-preview/1* *Picture: http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/08/fallout-3-hands-on-preview/s00.jpg* *Quote: *And yet, like most /Fallout/ fans, I'm actually a little bit nervous for the release of /Fallout 3/. There's a nagging suspicion that this really could just be /Oblivion/ but with guns and more brown. But it isn't. I know it isn't because I've just played it and that's the root of my rocky relationship for the game -- my love waxing and waning into trepidation as the months between sightings stretch ever longer. I'm saying all this to help put my thoughts in a context that other hardcore gamers can understand. You may think, just as I did only yesterday, that this is /Oblivion/ with guns and that's it -- but you'd be wrong. * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net
  21. Hi all, We have just published a review of the Acer Aspire One. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/08/04/acer-aspire-one/1* *Picture: http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/08/acer-aspire-one/s8.jpg* *Quote: *There are some issues. Shoddy speakers and a trackpad that is more hand-cramping and difficult than doing the secret ant-man handshake with every ant in a colony are the main problems, but the Aspire One does a good job of overcoming them and still offering great performance and usability. It isn't quite perfect, but it comes damn close and is definitely the most attractive subnotebook we've seen since the Eee PC 701 first landed. * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

  23. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Storage) - VOX V1 500GB USB and eSATA External HDD QUOTE: "Aaah, storage. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t have enough of it. Be it in a server or on the go, you can’t really ever have too much hard drive space. Today we’re taking the time to have a look at a hard drive caddie from a company called VOX. We will today have a look at how the VOX V1 goes up against another caddie we have with us and also against one of our Samsung 1TB drives that is already installed in our system. Before we get into that though, let’s have a look at the package VOX has put together along with a closer look at the caddie itself."
