Last year a class-action lawsuit was filed against NVIDIA and AMD/ATI for price fixing on GPUs. This suit has been followed by most tech media pretty closely as it could have huge implications on both companies' financial status. Today we got some interesting information about the lawsuit that basic boils down to the grand jury investigating the issue found no evidence of price fixing and told the judge in the class-action this finding. Now the the suit will apparently ONLY apply to graphics cards bought on ATI.com thus freeing NVIDIA from potential penalties and largely clearly AMD/ATI as well. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the Eagle Consus Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "The Eagle Consus External Hard Drive Enclosure does a great job doing what it was meant to do. There really isn't a lot to say in conclusion, as it neither really came out and wowed me, but it also didn't disappoint. Typical transfer speeds were seen, even when equipped with a hard drive that can handle much faster. However, it still did beat out the other external hard drives in all but one metric. The sturdy feel of the casing makes me feel comfortable dropping an expensive drive in and not really needing to worry much about damage it might encounter. Eagle's attention to packaging and included accessories was a nice surprise that most manufacturers miss the target on. Overall, the Eagle Consus does just what it is supposed to do." Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Digital Lounge) - Guide to Buying Blu-rays from Overseas QUOTE: "Here at TweakTown I often get questions about whether or not Blu-ray ‘X’ will work in an Australian or American Blu-ray player; so I thought it would be a good time to write a guide about Blu-ray importing. Let’s begin! Similar to DVD region coding, where the world is split up into six geographic regions, Blu-ray is split into three geographic regions. Fortunately, unlike DVD, the splitting of Blu-ray regions are far more sensible." Hi, We've just posted a new article on our website, Hardware Secrets. Title: Thermaltake Thoughpower 1500 W Power Supply Link: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/594 Category: First Look Summary: Thermaltake Thoughpower 1500 W is probably the most powerful PC power supply in the world – so powerful that it can’t be sold in the USA. We took an in-depth look on this monster. Here is a snippet: "Thermaltake Thoughpower 1500 W is probably the most power PC power supply in the world – so powerful that it can't be sold in the USA, as it is over the maximum allowed power for household appliances set by the Underwriter Laboratories (UL) – which is 1,300 W, by the way. Because of that, this model can only be found in Europe. The architecture used is really interesting: this power supply is in fact two completely independent 750 W power supplies inside the same housing. Besides its monstrous power capability – which the manufacturer says can be delivered at 50º C with a peak power of 1,600 W –, Thoughpower 1500 W has a modular cabling system with a total of eight power connectors for video cards and a 140-mm fan. In this article we will completely dissect this monster." A news post would be highly appreciated. Skyfire: Next-Generation Linux Mobile Browser Reviewed ( -at -) OSWeekly.com "For many users, the iPhone has helped them rethink what they want from their mobile Web browsing experience. Everything from YouTube videos to the most AJAX-y thing you can think of, it seems to be supported. Opera Mini has certainly made great strides for those of us opting to stay off of the iPhone bandwagon for now. Yet the issue of phone resource lag can be a problem when rendering something intense or otherwise large. Based on what I have been hearing, it seems that a mobile browser called Skyfire may have a fix for this." When Will Windows 7 Be Available? ( -at -) OSWeekly.com "OK, Windows Vista may not be everything that some hopeful Windows users thought it would be, but then again, what did they expect? For Microsoft, the release of Vista has just been business as usual, and they’re still making gobs of money from this latest version of their Windows operating system. It’s not completely amazing, and there are still plenty of unresolved issues, but when has that not been the case with any version of Windows? We’re used to this, and once again, the OS is just good enough to be usable for most people." OS X: Antisocial in a Social World ( -at -) OSWeekly.com "By all outward appearances, it’s easy to think that Apple is on the cutting edge of technology, and in many ways they are. All you need to do is look at their product line to see that they know how to create hardware and software that people want. While that may be so, in a sense, they’ve determined for themselves what is cool and what isn’t, and they don’t really pay much attention to what others are doing. This outsider activity may be a small blip on their radar, but as a company, Apple usually prefers to do things their own way." Microsoft Opens Up Vista Virtualization ( -at -) OSWeekly.com "Virtualization is certainly a hot thing right now, and it really makes using operating systems more flexible and enjoyable. In many ways, the future of operating systems is virtualization, and looking at the current market for these solutions makes that fact abundantly clear. Since virtualization is such a big deal, we might expect Microsoft and Apple to get rid of the gargantuan chips on their shoulders and embrace the future, but that’s not exactly what’s happened in the past." Apple iPhone 3G Review ( -at -) CoolTechZone.com "We?ll get right to the chase. Apple?s iPhone 3G is very similar to the original iPhone. In fact, first-generation iPhones can be updated to use the iPhone 2.0 software, which will give a lot of the software capabilities of iPhone 3G to its predecessor. However, that doesn?t mean that iPhone 3G isn?t worth the upgrade. If you were holding out on the original iPhone in hopes of iPhone 3G, this is your chance to grab one, assuming can get past the strict requirements of activating the phone in AT&T or Apple Stores. That?s of course to prevent a lot of folks from unlocking their iPhones." Title: Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card Reviewed ( -at -) TheTechLounge Quote: "I'm of two minds on this wireless SD card. It's clever, unique, relatively inexpensive, and essentially universal. It's pretty, in a memory card sort of way. It has a couple of flaws that would be far from deal-breakers if, as a whole (hardware and software) it just did more. Without raw image support, this Eye-Fi creation will never be the memory card for professionals. Without open wireless networking support, it won't help the traveling photographer. The direct-to- online photo service feature is cool, but indiscriminate, posting every underexposed, blurred up-nostril without remorse." Hi, We've just posted a new article on our website, Hardware Secrets. Title: Razer Piranha Gaming Headset Review Link: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/593 Category: Reviews Summary: Our test of the entry-level gaming headset Piranha from Razer. Here is a snippet: "Playing games over the internet like Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2 without a headset is really frustrating. It's faster to issue commands and ask for help by speaking into a microphone than by typing on the keyboard – which usually will get you killed (virtually, we mean). That's why the serious gamer always confides in a good headset while playing. Razer, a company known for their gaming mice, is releasing a headset pompously dubbed as a "gaming communicator", the Piranha. It's an entry-level model when compared to the Barracuda headset, which has a bigger size and more sound features. Let's proceed to our field test of the Piranha." A news post would be highly appreciated. hi everyone; LibUnique 1.0.0 is now available at: http://www.gnome.org/~ebassi/source/unique-1.0.0.tar.gz MD5 Checksum: fc6dfeca0ba84bc0bc557f17238e58cc unique-1.0.0.tar.gz LibUnique is everyone's (least) favorite library for writing single instance applications. LibUnique makes it easy to write this kind of applications by providing a base class, taking care of all the IPC machinery needed to send messages to a running instance, and also handling the startup notification side. Unique aims to replace the BaconMessageConnection code that has been copied by many projects and the equivalent code using Bonobo or D-Bus. Notes: - This is the first stable release of LibUnique. - The API is finalized and frozen; further releases of the 1.x series will be API and ABI compatible. - Web site: http://live.gnome.org/LibUnique Requirements: - gobject-2.0 >= 2.12 - gtk+-2.0 >= 2.11 - dbus-glib-1 (optional) List of changes for 1.0.0: * First stable release * API is frozen * D-Bus and socket backends supported Special thanks to: - Ross Burton - John Wendell - Jonny Lamb - Richard Hughes ciao, Emmanuele. -- Emmanuele Bassi, W: http://www.emmanuelebassi.net B: http://log.emmanuelebassi.net _______________________________________________

Hey, Here is the second release of Swfdec in the unstable series leading up to Swfdec 0.8 in September. Swfdec is a decoder/renderer for Adobe Flash animations. It is provided as a library and a set of tools, like the Mozilla browser plugin. swfdec-0.7.4 "Diabloe" http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec/0.7/swfdec-0.7.4.tar.gz MD5: 08fcda4a46454bfc66b97fba2d385f8c swfdec-mozilla-0.7.4 "Whites won again" http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec-mozilla/0.7/swfdec-mozilla-0.7.4.tar.gz MD5: c5958f3b003190b21977495021ac2b28 This time we have nothing new to brag about. No cool new sites that work, no cool new visible features, just lots of work. So I'll stop here and not show off talk about boring features like the support for color transforms or BitmapData objects, speed improvements or bug fixes. Even though this is a development release, Swfdec still follows the no-crashes-allowed policy. Should you still succeed in finding a crasher, please immediately file a bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org. Known issue: Windowless Flash files can make Mozilla browsers such as Firefox 3.0 crash. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435764 for details, patches and unaffected versions. For more information about Swfdec, see http://swfdec.freedesktop.org Cheers, Benjamin _______________________________________________
