It is no secret that the last Razer keyboard we looked at, the Tarantula, was a complete disappointment. In terms of features it was excellent but actually using the keyboard was a far from fulfilling experience, I found it uncomfortable over long term use. Additionally the rearrangement of button order such as that used for Print Screen, Scroll Lock, etc was completely unnecessary. With todays review product Razer have the chance to make amends. The Lycosa is the latest keyboard to be released by the California based company and on first glance it appears to have at least a few improvements over the Tarantula. http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=593 DriverHeaven and GamingHeaven News Mailer
  8. Scanning Times Two: DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.3 - Published on 07/24/08 DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases free updates for all editions of its information manager DEVONthink as well as for the intelligent note-keeper DEVONnote re-introducing Image-Capture-based scan support and other new features. DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.3 users now have the choice between the built-in scan function and ExactScan Capture allowing them to connect to both Image Capture compliant scanners and via TWAIN drivers. Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA) - DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases free updates for all editions of its information manager DEVONthink as well as for the intelligent note-keeper DEVONnote re-introducing Image-Capture-based scan support and other new features. While the whole team is focused on the development of DEVONthink 2.0, further maintenance updates for the 1.x line of DEVONthink and DEVONnote have been released today, the most prominent improvement being the re-introduction of the Image Capture based scan module that broke due to changes in Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard'. DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.3 users now have the choice between the built-in scan function and ExactScan Capture allowing them to connect to both Image Capture compliant scanners and via TWAIN drivers. In addition, the original scan module supports document feeders and grayscale scanning now. The ExactScan Capture module and the embedded IRIS OCR engine have been updated, too, improving compatibility especially to Epson scanners and fixing glitches such as the 'blurry images' problem. Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, DEVONtechnologies' President: "The problems we had with the unexpected and undocumented changes in Leopard were annoying for our users. So we're glad we were finally able to fix them. Now DEVONthink Pro Office users can connect to both worlds, Image Capture and TWAIN, giving them maximum freedom of choice for their scanners: from flatbed to document scanners and the Fujitsu ScanSnap." In addition, both DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office 1.5.3 add a new global script for capturing abstracts from DEVONagent, come with improvements for handling RSS feeds, and enhance the display of sheets. Finally, all three editions of DEVONthink as well as DEVONnote better support the Camino web browser, create and update the Spotlight cache faster, and feature an improved inline advertisement filter. '.mdwn' files are imported as plain text files and the online help has been made easier accessible. "We're fully focused on finishing DEVONthink 2.0 but we will continue to deliver important maintenance updates for 1.x users until version 2.0 is ready," remarks Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann. He continues: "Consequently, everyone who buys any edition of DEVONthink or DEVONnote today will also receive a free upgrade to DEVONthink or DEVONnote 2.0 when they are released later this year." Availability And Pricing: DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office 1.5.3, DEVONthink Personal 1.9.15, and DEVONnote 1.9.15 require Mac OS X 10.4 or later and can be downloaded from www.devon-technologies.com. DEVONthink and DEVONnote can be test-driven for free for 150 hours of non-continuous runtime until they need to be properly licensed. DEVONthink Professional Office sells for $149.95 USD, DEVONthink Professional for $79.95 USD, DEVONthink Personal for $39.95 USD, and DEVONnote for $19.95 USD in DEVONtechnologies' online shop. DEVONthink Pro Office and DEVONthink Pro are also available with the Internet research agent DEVONagent as bundles. Background: Devonthink In today's world, everything is digital. From shopping receipts to important research papers, peoples' lives often fill their hard drives with emails, PDFs, Word documents, multimedia files and more. Questions eventually pop up, like where to store all of this stuff? How to organize these very different file types, and even better, how to find the exact file one is looking for the second one needs it? It's almost as if one needs a second brain just to keep one's digital life straight. Enter DEVONthink: The solution to this digital age conundrum. It is a second brain, the one and only database for all digital files, be they PDFs, emails, Word documents or even multimedia files. Boasting a refined artificial intelligence, DEVONthink is exceedingly flexible and adapts to the user's personal needs. And if the files are not digital yet, paper capture support is already built-in (DEVONthink Pro Office only.) Users can use it as their document repository, their filing cabinet, their email archive, or their project organizer; DEVONthink can do it all. One can even collect and organize data from the web, enrich it with sound and movie files, and then export the finished product as a website or to an Apple Pages document to print. Or one can copy the content to an iPod! The possibilities are only as limited as the user's imagination. The Database For The Internet Age Because DEVONthink keeps all important data in one database, it doesn't matter where the data is physically located. DEVONthink uniquely integrates both local documents and live content from the Internet to keep all information related to a project together in one place. No more folders full of loosely organized files and overflowing bookmark bars in Safari; with DEVONthink, the user seamlessly mixes local documents, clippings, and live web pages in one dynamic database. The Digital Workplace DEVONthink is not only a simple database, it's a flexible work environment, too, with powerful management features suited to any professional project. It provides the user with all the tools she or he needs to effectively work with documents. The integrated RTF editor makes it easy to write new documents, or the users can open documents in a third-party application. Intelligent Assistant DEVONthink is based on a powerful artificial intelligence (AI) architecture that helps organize and navigate information collections quickly and accurately. It assists its users with both filing documents and with finding similar items, and can help make connections that they might have missed on their own. It can even master huge data collections with a few simple clicks, saving time and aggravation. Share The Knowledge Finally, DEVONthink Pro Office allows to share the accumulated and organized knowledge. Users can post it to their websites, or they can let their coworkers access databases with a familiar search-engine like interface using standard web browsers. Depending on the network setup, it's even possible to search shared databases over the Internet. A JavaScript applet gives convenient access to the database also from the Apple iPhone. Background: Devonnote DEVONnote helps taking notes and keeping them organized. It keeps ideas, documents, important information, and even web browser bookmarks in one single, accessible place. DEVONnote supports the user with professional, easy-to-use features, and helps create structure out of chaos. DEVONnote is the most sophisticated notepad application for Mac OS X, and the only one that uses AI (artificial intelligence) instead of relying on your NI (natural intelligence). DEVONnote was designed with the typical Mac user in mind. It comes with a clean, easy-to-use interface that gives you all the tools you need in a familiar Mac-like package. Even the most complex AI functions are just "buttons", meaning one simple click can send DEVONnote into action, digging through all of your data to find a place for your latest note, or to show you all your ideas and concepts that are similar to the one you've just selected. Of course, creative people don't just 'have thoughts', they often need new 'input', too. DEVONnote comes with a complete Safari-based web browser and solid, but flexible, bookmark-managing capabilities. With DEVONnote, the user can browse the Web and clip the most important information directly to DEVONnote. Finally, DEVONnote displays and regularly reloads web cams directly within the application. 12. Today PC Perspective has posted an big update to our Hardware Leaderboard. Our HWLB is a one-page solution to finding our recommendation for system builds at various price points. This month the Dream System gets GTX 280s, AMD's GPUs make a return the high-end and mid-range recommendations and the VelociRaptor pretty much takes over everything. URL: http://www.pcper.com/hwlb.php Quote: "What changes did we implement this time around? First, we bumped the Q9300 processor up to a Q9550 and changed from a 780i SLI motherboard to an ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard based on the Intel X48 chipset. Why did we move away from the NVIDIA chipset? The answer is in our GPU - we went with the Radeon HD 4870 512MB cards (a pair in CrossFire to be exact) bringing AMD back into the High End System Leaderboard for the first time in quite some time. We also updated to the VelociRaptor hard drive and Xonar D2X PCIe sound card." Thanks for a post! Ryan Shrout Owner - PC Perspective rshrout ( -at -) pcper.com

  17. Today we look at the Tagan Icy Box IB-285StU-B USB 2 1/2. SNIP: capacity? External drive enclosures often come with a 'Tote Along' price in the form of a power brick, extra cables, driver disks or other accessories that are just unhandy to Tote Around on a daily basis. We found an alternative to the 'Tote Around' syndrome in the Tagan Icy Box IB-285StU-B 2 1/2 inch Sata Drive enclosure. It's all-inclusive, wallet-type design is a breath of fresh air in the world of portable storage; and it manages to store large amounts of data and does it while providing a stylishness that you seldom see in carry along storage solutions. http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1310 A post on your site would be great if you can. 20. Hi all, We have just received word that upgrading the memory in MSI's Wind will void your warranty in most, but not all regions - if you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/07/24/msi-wind-upgrading-memory-voids-warranty/1** *Quote: */"For those who don't know, even though MSI has left a slot free for memory upgrades, the problem MSI faces is that it doesn't include a specific flap for the memory like every other laptop - you literally have to take the whole thing apart to get to the free memory slot (or hard drive if you want to do that too). The level of complexity in getting it back together correctly is far beyond "pop a lid off", yet leaving the slot free MSI must have realised that people will want to upgrade their machines? Major surgery like this naturally voids the warranty. We asked MSI UK about this and was told that owners would just need to register the product before going ahead with the upgrade - all will remain good. However after much poking MSI for answers it seems that the "register with MSI" option is exclusive to UK customers. For once it seems those of us in Blighty have a better deal! Excuse me while I promptly fall off my chair." /* *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net
  21. Hi all, We have just published a review of *AMD's Phenom X4 9350e* quad-core processor - if you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/07/24/amd-phenom-x4-9350e/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/07/amd-phenom-x4-9350e/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"There doesn't seem to be too much special with this particular silicon. For the same price there are too many other processor choices that offer better performance in every other area - an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is virtually the same price (and probably less following the recent price cuts) and offers oodles more performance, and many of our readers can testify to building a very quiet PCs based on this CPU. We're struggling to think of situations where you'd absolutely need this CPU - the only one we can come up with is if you wanted a quad-core mini-ITX board that's limited to 65W. This would be the only option that would fit, so it wins by default. But then again we fail to understand why you'd buy this over a Phenom X4 9550 Essentially, unless it fills a specific application you require, then this CPU is not for you. Even if you / which is cheaper and you can simply underclock and undervolt it a touch. /do decide you need it, you'll need to //find a Phenom X4 9350e (it's been a month since launch and they're still not available anywhere UK or State-side)." /* *Cheers guys! 23. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - Rosewill RX630-S-B Xtreme 630W PSU QUOTE: "Rosewill has long had a reputation of providing a quality product for an affordable price. With that theme in mind, these guys have come up with a line of power supplies aimed at the enthusiast market. They still look at providing an affordable power solution, but this time around they have added features to keep those with extreme power needs happy. The Xtreme series of power supplies weigh in at models from 630 watts to 850 watts. Today we will take a look at the little guy in the lineup, the 630 watt model to see what it can do with a reasonably intense system. Stability will be key so we will look not only the level of power but also at whether or not it can maintain this level with little to no fluctuations." 25. GeForce 9800 GTX+ SLI test <http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce--9800-gtx-sli-review-plus-model/>'>http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce--9800-gtx-sli-review-plus-model/> You know, we predicted that the GeForce 9800 GTX+ model is going to be a pretty popular product. Honestly, it's really good value and performance for just over 200 USD. A price that is attractive but most of all acceptable to a lot of you. The minute that review was posted I started receiving email, emails asking us to test this product in SLI and then compare it with AMDs Radeon 4850 HD in Crossfire. And sure, that's a very interesting perspective to look at, so I'll happily dedicate some time for such an article, which you just landed at.
