Background ========== cbrPager is a comic book pager. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 app-misc/cbrpager < 0.9.17 >= 0.9.17 Description =========== Mamoru Tasaka discovered that filenames of the image archives are not properly sanitized before being passed to decompression utilities like unrar and unzip, which use the system() libc library call. Impact ====== A remote attacker could entice a user to open an archive with a specially crafted filename, resulting in arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the user running the application. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All cbrPager users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=app-misc/cbrpager-0.9.17" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2008-2575 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-2575 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200806-05.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us. A malicious authorized client could exploit the issue to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the X.org server (CVE-2008-1377). An input validation flaw was found in X.org's MIT-SHM extension. A client connected to the X.org server could read arbitrary server memory, resulting in the disclosure of sensitive data of other users of the X.org server (CVE-2008-1379). Multiple integer overflows were found in X.org's Render extension. A malicious authorized client could explot these issues to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the X.org server (CVE-2008-2360, CVE-2008-2361, CVE-2008-2362). In addition, this update corrects a problem that could cause memory corruption or segfaults in the render code of the vnc server on Mandriva Linux 2008.1 The updated packages have been patched to prevent these issues. _______________________________________________________________________ References: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1377 Multiple integer overflows were found in X.org's Render extension. A malicious authorized client could explot these issues to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code with root privileges on the X.org server (CVE-2008-2360, CVE-2008-2361). The updated packages have been patched to prevent these issues. _______________________________________________________________________ References: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1377 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1379 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-2360 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-2361 _______________________________________________________________________ Updated Packages: Corporate 3.0: a305bb0ad6cd2be60f7adedd5e164411 corporate/3.0/i586/libxfree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 27f01f163d1d8cb6fd33e852de531a1a corporate/3.0/i586/libxfree86-devel-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 19c3b2641c0aa86a21049e90c2b3ccd9 corporate/3.0/i586/libxfree86-static-devel-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 4a0413a3568d7dc418b2d1c2468177ea corporate/3.0/i586/X11R6-contrib-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 54b2492a5c3b21fa05587adff48aa080 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 687c21c83530c0d8d306b0c180b0a8d8 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm d3c807bae1c0b26c40043f3a395df345 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 78ad2ccdaa585998aff8382d80a611e2 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-cyrillic-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 9526a9761a714042287a6021438ecbb3 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-doc-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm d234ed69212ada78d4e89fbbb9a37c0f corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-glide-module-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm b347db273e18d7d6500b5a4850b3b31c corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-server-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 8628b4470e7324c2ddc933ed81261fcd corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-xfs-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 06a7a3a7d44d37364d41ebfcd97708c8 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-Xnest-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm 6334310368ddee26fd3727222a88f016 corporate/3.0/i586/XFree86-Xvfb-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.i586.rpm e0cc44b644c9f867f1f89b4a4fb61de2 corporate/3.0/SRPMS/XFree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.src.rpm Corporate 3.0/X86_64: fdae8ca675e6a92d5f3e6a3e12f8dabe corporate/3.0/x86_64/lib64xfree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 80fe75f04ad54d8e2579cd11714b9079 corporate/3.0/x86_64/lib64xfree86-devel-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 5b7669cd92060f8e4bb3bb78d366654f corporate/3.0/x86_64/lib64xfree86-static-devel-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 65b98282d535bf04971e11ee5f8bff44 corporate/3.0/x86_64/X11R6-contrib-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 9ad69cc110dc9bc3f9c2d37d2b157a68 corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 35d8852fd52f67a3db58cfbb71d88b95 corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 0db3d42580a476faee7202b48a546586 corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 1bde0c17d8b6f99bbb1060695395e79e corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-cyrillic-fonts-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm f38e44512019a5b9f13c9bd19d827e56 corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-doc-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm b36b4dc06a9f52b3842910f5783c7f3b corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-server-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 498d4e9e3d4840fb8ef41c854180f954 corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-xfs-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 0526b4c13823d7562f53087a1a5d1dac corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-Xnest-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm 143b310524114a3887e034878a2be14d corporate/3.0/x86_64/XFree86-Xvfb-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.x86_64.rpm e0cc44b644c9f867f1f89b4a4fb61de2 corporate/3.0/SRPMS/XFree86-4.3-32.16.C30mdk.src.rpm _______________________________________________________________________ To upgrade automatically use MandrivaUpdate or urpmi. Hello fellow editors! Tech ARP ( http://www.techarp.com/ <http://www.techarp.com/>'>http://www.techarp.com/> ) has just posted the NVIDIA GTX 280 & GTX 260 Technology Report. Quote - Although many of us have already read about and even seen photos of the two new NVIDIA GTX 280 and GTX 260 graphics cards, today is the day we can finally tell you the whole story about the two cards. Yes, we behaved like gentlemen and we kept to our NDAs! ? Alright, now that everything's in the open now, let's get onto the good stuff - the new NVIDIA GT200 GPU and the two new NVIDIA GTX 280 and NVIDIA GTX 260 graphics cards. Here's a quote from the article :- "In any case, the new NVIDIA GT200 has 240 stream processors (or processing cores), which generate about 933 gigaFLOPs of processing power. To achieve that requires a lot of transistors - an astounding total of 1.4 billion transistors. This, plus the fact that it is still built on the 65 nm process technology, inevitably meant the GT200 would be a really large chip (approximately 5x the size of an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor)." Direct URL - http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=555 Logo URL - http://www.techarp.com/article/NVIDIA/GTX_200_Launch/icon_big.jpg We would appreciate your help in getting the word out. Rest assured that we will reciprocate and post your news with all due haste. If you have any news, please feel free to send it to our news mailbox at news ( -at -) techarp.com. Thanks! GTK+ 2.13.3 is now available for download at: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gtk+/2.13/ gtk+-2.13.3.tar.bz2 md5sum: 4191b1f3d6239424556ebf2a92250ef6 gtk+-2.13.3.tar.gz md5sum: 6c2912e63dd491302f01026cc8130415 This is the fourth third development release leading up to GTK+ 2.14. Notes: * This is unstable development release. While it has had a bit of testing, there are certainly plenty of bugs remaining to be found. This release should not be used in production. * Installing this version will overwrite your existing copy of GTK+. If you have problems, you'll need to reinstall GTK+ 2.12. * GTK+ 2.14 will be source and binary compatible with the GTK+ 2.12 series; however, the new API additions are not yet finalized, so there may be incompatibilities between this release and the final 2.14 release. * Bugs should be reported to http://bugzilla.gnome.org. What is GTK+ ============ GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for projects ranging from small one-off tools to complete application suites. GTK+ has been designed from the ground up to support a range of languages, not only C/C++. Using GTK+ from languages such as Perl and Python (especially in combination with the Glade GUI builder) provides an effective method of rapid application development. GTK+ is free software and part of the GNU Project. However, the licensing terms for GTK+, the GNU LGPL, allow it to be used by all developers, including those developing proprietary software, without any license fees or royalties. Where to get more information about GTK+ ======================================== Information about GTK+ including links to documentation can be found at: http://www.gtk.org/ An installation guide for GTK+ 2.8 is found at: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-building.html Common questions: http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/gtk-question-index.html http://www.gtk.org/faq/ Contributing ============ GTK+ is a large project and relies on voluntary contributions. We are actively searching for new contributors in various areas and invite everyone to help project development. If you are willing to participate, please subscribe to the project

Hello Technology News Community, I4U NEWS published a review of the brand new XFX GTX 280 Video Card. Quote from the review: "Today we are looking at the brand new XFX GTX 280 video card. This is now the top end video card from XFX pushing the 9800 GX2 down a notch in the NVIDIA line. The XFX GTX 280 is a high performance video card by anyone’s standards. It is bested slightly in 3DMark 06 and some gaming tests by the highly overclocked 9800 GX2 video cards like the XFX 9800 GX2 Black Edition and ASUS EN9800GX2 Top. I can’t wait to see what the XFX GTX 280 can do in SLI and 3-way SLI, the latter is something the 9800 GX2 couldn’t do." Hello Everyone, JonnyGURU.com has a new article online. A post in your news would be greatly appreciated. Title: Thermaltake Toughpower QFan 650W PSU Review Summary: Today's review is brought to you by the letters W, T, Q, and the number 3. W is for Wolf, that's me; T is for Thermaltake, who sent me the review sample for today; and Q is for QFan, a specially designed fan that Thermaltake believes will decrease fan noise in your standard power supply while maintaining efficient cooling. While the Q in QFan could stand for many things, like Quality or Quigley: Down Under, the Q actually stands for Quiet. We'll have to see if this fabled QFan of yore can be heard over the yowling, screaming exhaust fan in the old load tester, won't we? Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Visual) - GeForce GTX 280 with QX9650 at 4GHz QUOTE: "Feeling a little underwhelmed with the initial GTX 280 results, I took the time to make my way over to the IBuyPower Australia bunker to let the card have a bit more breathing room. While our 3GHz test bed is quite modest and a good indication of performance for the everyman or woman, there is of course people out there who are a bit more hardcore and do have a few more dollars to splash about. Since the card has just been released, we thought it was the perfect time to really see what the card was capable of in a very nicely overclocked QX9650 rig carrying with it a 10 x 400MHz FSB combination. At this speed we had a Swiftech water cooling setup attached which caused the CPU to stay below 47c on all four cores. We had found our rig, and now it was time to see what kind of performance increase we get when we move to something that carries with it faster RAM, a faster HDD and of course a faster CPU." The game we noticed the performance gains the most was actually Age of Conan when we cranked up the image quality at a resolution of 1920x1200 . Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures passed the astounding 'One Million Copies Shipped' milestone in less than three weeks after the game's launch, so that is a huge potential market in the months to come..." Good day, Today Neoseeker takes a first, initial fact-finding retro-speculative gander at the GTX 280, the latest omega card from NVIDIA. Read all about it here: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/gtx280/ Here is a quote: "It seems like we were just getting used to NVIDIA's ninth generation of GeForce, and now, lo and behold, another generation has arrived. This new breed brings a few new changes, and one of these changes is in nomenclature: NVIDIA's suffixes have now become prefixes, and a zero has been dropped. The *GTX 280* is the name of the new flagship video card offered by NVIDIA, and today, we'll put it through its paces and see how it compares to nine other video cards, including the now dethroned 9800 GTX." Thanks, Kevin Spiess Editor, Neoseeker.com
