  2. iCal Meeting Invite Translator Updated For Leopard - Published on 06/04/08 John Maisey has released version 1.4 of YAI. YAI is a plug-in for Apple Mail that translates and automatically transfers Exchange style meeting invitations to iCal. It corrects incompatibilities between Microsoft Exchange style meeting invites and what Mail/iCal interprets. London, UK - John Maisey has released version 1.4 of YAI. YAI is a plug-in for Apple Mail that translates and automatically transfers Exchange style meeting invitations to iCal. It corrects incompatibilities between Microsoft Exchange style meeting invites and what Mail/iCal interprets. Version 1.4 brings Leopard support to YAI. Although the handling of Exchange style meeting invitations is much improved in iCal 3 there are still areas where it need some help. YAI enables automatic transfer of invitations to iCal while maintaining the correct permissions on the event. YAI also includes several options to process the invite emails in Mail. The options include flag, mark as read, color, copy or move the message. These make it much easier to manage a busy inbox. With YAI installed, Exchange style invites received in Mail's inbox are processed as they arrive and are sent to iCal, ready to be acted on. Most invites will appear in iCal's notification pane, but any invites the user sends themselves will be added as an editable event. If there are invites from before YAI was installed, these are easily transferred to iCal by selecting them in Mail and pressing Cmd-Opt-L. They will be processed in exactly the same way as newly received ones. YAI will benefit to those using an Apple Mac in an Exchange environment and also those that are likely to be sent un-requested (and unexpected) meeting invites from associates or colleagues. YAI 1.4 requires an Apple Mac running OSX 10.5 or 10.4, Apple Mail, iCal and Address Book. Pricing and Availability: As of version 1.4 YAI is £3 GBP shareware and will operate in the background for 14 days without being registered. Version 1.4 is a free update for registered users. GNOME 2.23.3 Development Release ================================ That's incredible! GNOME 2.23.3 is released in time! That's really a huge event! Oh, wait, we've been doing this for a long time already... Okay, the big thing in this release is that we fixed many bugs! Hrm, you're used to this too... But does all this mean this release is boring? Of course not, it just means we don't realize how much good work we're constantly doing :-) So just think about it and hug a GNOME contributor! 7. Default Folder X 4.0.6 saves column sizes, delivers better compatibility - Published on 06/04/08 St. Clair Software is pleased to announce the release of Default Folder X 4.0.6, which adds a feature to overcome an annoying deficiency in "column view" mode in file dialogs, as well as correcting compatibility issues in our award-winning utility for enhancing Open and Save dialogs. Blacksburg, VA - St. Clair Software is pleased to announce the release of Default Folder X 4.0.6, which adds a convenient feature and corrects compatibility issues in our award-winning utility for enhancing Open and Save dialogs. About Default Folder X: Awarded Macworld Magazine's Editors' Choice Award for Best System Enhancement Utility, Default Folder X makes Open and Save dialogs "work the way they should." It enhances the file dialogs in all Mac OS X applications, making them work as quickly as you do. Custom keyboard shortcuts put your favorite and recent folders at your fingertips. Pop-up menus let you navigate your folders and open Finder windows. Previews and Spotlight comments are there when you need them. Open, save, and get back to work: Default Folder X is workflow for the rest of us. What's New: Version 4.0.6 now remembers the width of columns in "column view" within your file dialogs. After you make a column in an Open or Save dialog wider to see long filenames, Default Folder X will automatically set columns to that width the next time you use that dialog, saving you the aggravation of resizing columns every time you open or save a file. This free update also resolves compatibility issues with Kodak Preps, Web Confidential, Parallels Desktop, Quark Xpress, and moving back and forth between Intel- and PowerPC-based Macintoshes. Because these fixes may also resolve issues with other applications, we encourage all users to update to version 4.0.6. Please see the St. Clair Software web site for screenshots, a full change log, and additional feature information. System Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard). Pricing and Availability: Default Folder X 4.0.3 is a free update for users who purchased a license or upgrade on or after June 1, 2007. The upgrade is $14.95 USD for users who bought their licenses before that date, and $34.95 USD for new users. 8. Hi there, We've just posted our latest review and would love it if you linked it. TIA! "We all know that we should use a different password for every login page, but remembering each password is the biggest headache ever. An effective option is to store and encrypt your passwords digitally, to protect them from others, and then generate passwords which can be carried via a USB stick for use on work computers, laptops and Pocket PCs. Steganos' Password Manager 2009 is an effective centralised password manager that enables you to keep all of your passwords under lock and key, take them with you and access them as required. There are plenty of freeware options on the market, but Password Manager 2009 offers most of the features you should need, though Mac OS, Linux and Palm OS users will need to look elsewhere." http://www.biosmagazine.co.uk/rev.php?id=753 _____ Christian Harris Editor/Publisher BIOS (http://www.biosmagazine.co.uk) _____

  14. Hello Everyone, Dell's lineup of flat panel displays have proven themselves to be reliable, stylish, and typically right on par price-wise with some of the most inexpensive LCD monitors on the market. They've delivered exceptional bang for the buck, and throughout the years, they've managed to improve the quality of the screens and the overall feature sets while overall prices have gone down. While this is also true for the rest of the monitor industry, Dell has retained their reputation for reliability, which still sticks with them today. Sure, Dell displays don't have the raw [censored]iness of Apple's Cinema series displays, but they're typically quite a bit cheaper while offering more functionality. Perhaps the best part of Dell's monitor division is that they never slow down. Around every year or so, we typically see Dell launch refreshes of their monitor designs, which typically include updated bezel styling, upgraded features, and new connectivity options. This year is no exception, and Dell is getting pretty feisty with its new WFP lineup. Today, we'll be looking at the 24" model, which many (including us) consider to be the sweet spot in terms of price, productivity, and raw size. Studies have often shown 24" displays to be the best for price/productivity, even more so than 30" displays, as many find screens larger than 24" hard to navigate due to having so much space. Without further ado, let's meet the latest display in Dell's arsenal, the 24" Ultrasharp 2408WFP. 15. Title: Razer Mako 2.1 Speaker System Reviewed ( -at -) TheTechLounge Quote: "Razer's entrance into the gaming sound arena was impressive and simple, following the path they’d cut for input devices. Their audio lineup includes a superb sound card, a headset, and a 2.1 speaker system. Their sleek style stands out first, and, priced as they are-- $400--quality is expected. Re-thinking the very shape of a speaker seems appropriate. Not only for Razer, but also for THX, their partner in this matte-finish affair. The center of the re-design is simple: point the drivers down, bounce the sound out in every direction. And now every spot is the sweet spot. But their combined forces multiply marketing, add to the technical BS, and I say there are faults to find." Summary: Updated evolution28 packages that address two buffer overflow vulnerabilities are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. This update has been rated as having important security impact by the Red Hat Security Response Team. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS version 4 - i386, ia64, ppc, s390, s390x, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop version 4 - i386, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES version 4 - i386, ia64, x86_64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS version 4 - i386, ia64, x86_64 3. Description: Evolution is the integrated collection of e-mail, calendaring, contact management, communications and personal information management (PIM) tools for the GNOME desktop environment. A flaw was found in the way Evolution parsed iCalendar timezone attachment data. If the Itip Formatter plug-in was disabled and a user opened a mail with a carefully crafted iCalendar attachment, arbitrary code could be executed as the user running Evolution. (CVE-2008-1108) Note: the Itip Formatter plug-in, which allows calendar information (attachments with a MIME type of "text/calendar") to be displayed as part of the e-mail message, is enabled by default. A heap-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the way Evolution parsed iCalendar attachments with an overly long "DESCRIPTION" property string. If a user responded to a carefully crafted iCalendar attachment in a particular way, arbitrary code could be executed as the user running Evolution. (CVE-2008-1109). The particular response required to trigger this vulnerability was as follows: 1. Receive the carefully crafted iCalendar attachment. 2. Accept the associated meeting. 3. Open the calender the meeting was in. 4. Reply to the sender. Red Hat would like to thank Alin Rad Pop of Secunia Research for responsibly disclosing these issues. All Evolution users should upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patches which resolves these issues. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via Red Hat Network. Details on how to use the Red Hat Network to apply this update are available at http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_58_10188 5. Description: The Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) provides a portable printing layer for UNIX operating systems. An integer overflow flaw leading to a heap buffer overflow was discovered in the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) decoding routines used by the CUPS image converting filters "imagetops" and "imagetoraster". An attacker could create a malicious PNG file that could possibly execute arbitrary code as the "lp" user if the file was printed. (CVE-2008-1722) All CUPS users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain backported patch to resolve this issue. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure that all previously-released errata relevant to your system have been applied. This update is available via Red Hat Network. 21. Hello everyone, Thermaltake DuOrb CPU Cooler " My first orb was the Thermaltake Golden Orb way back when the Abit BP6 was the thing to have. Imagine having to shave a bit of a heatsink off to have it fit on your motherboard. Those were the days when you had to work hard for every ounce of performance. These days, you can squeeze so much out of new CPUs. Thermaltake has released a brand new orb, the DuOrb. It combines heatpipes and two huge orb coolers. 23. Hardware Canucks is pleased to present our review of the new CoolIT Freezone Elite CPU Cooler. Review URL: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/7610-coolit-freezone-elite-cpu-cooler-review.html Quote: Well we don’t know about you but the numbers that the CoolIT Elite posted are jaw droppingly impressive. Sub ambient temperatures under full load at stock speeds? That is simply impossible to do with water cooling no matter which way you cut it. Even better was the fact that the unit was not that noisy for the amount of performance it was producing. We have be long-time fans (pardon the pun) of Panaflo fans, as they are serious performers that create very little bearing noise and the model used on the Elite is no exception.
