  3. Good Morning Everyone, Although specific design wins have not been announced, NVIDIA has officially unveiled their upcoming TEGRA application processor. The CPU features an ARM11 processor core in conjunction with a GeForce GPU and dedicated image and HD video processing engines. The integrated GeForce GPU features programmable pixel shaders and support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and D3D Mobile. TEGRA processing units are coupled to a low-power DDR memory interface, display outputs, including HDMI, and they support both NAND and NOR flash memory for storage. What's perhaps most impressive is that, at idle, the chips consume less than 100 mW. SilverStone Sugo SG02-F

At Phoronix we have posted a new article. A link to this from your site's news section would be greatly appreciated. Title: SilverStone Sugo SG02-F ( -at -) Phoronix Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12417 Summary: "The Sugo SG02-F is described as their most affordable case yet and it offers an improved layout over the original SG01. Unlike the revolutionary differences between the SG01 and SG03, the SG02-F is just an evolution of the SG01 design with expanded support for graphics cards and is composed of a steel body. Thanks to these design improvements, this SFF case is capable of handling long graphics cards such as the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 and GeForce 8800 Ultra. The SG02-F is quite similar to the original SG02 except for turning from aluminum to steel construction and some other enhancements. With a price tag under $80 USD, does this case still deliver on the features and exceptional build quality we have become to know and love from this high-end manufacturer or have they cut too many corners to achieve this pricing?" Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments you may

  8. Good Morning All, Asus has released details at Computex today, regarding their upcoming Eee Box mini-desktop follow-on to the Eee PC. The Eee Box is based on a low-power Intel Atom processor and configurations with 512MB, 1GB, or 2GB of RAM will be available. Although the actual dimensions are posted, it’s the image from ASUS' booth that really gives a sense of scale. In the image, the Eee Box is standing next to a paperback book. These systems will feature Linux and Windows operating system installations that are very similar to the Eee PC mini-notebooks. Pricing is said to be in-line with the Eee PC cost model as well. A 2GB model with a 160GB hard drive, for example, will cost only $299. 10. Today NVIDIA is announcing its Tegra line of products which are aimed at the mobile market and are designed as essentially a "system on a chip". This is not exactly NVIDIA's first foray into the world of mobile devices, but it certainly is their first that contains the graphics core, southbridge, and a full Arm 11 CPU. We are not quite at the point of saying watch out Intel and AMD, but from what I have seen so far the Tegra lineup is pretty impressive considering what it is able to do and how it is able to do it. URL: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=568 Quote: "In our line of thinking we often consider the CPU the core of the platform, but that is beginning to change. In the Tegra line the CPU acts as the conductor of the platform, but most of the performance features that NVIDIA is pushing are actually accelerated by the graphics portion of the platform. Consider how video decode and encode has gone from the CPU to the GPU in the past several years. This is merely an extension of that overall trend, but trimmed down to the very basics." 11. Hello Again, Futurelooks checks out ASUS' Creative Labs X-Fi killer... ASUS Xonar D2X PCI-E Sound Card Review The Xonar D2X sound card from ASUS is their top line sound card. Based of the design of the D2, the D2X is out with the old and in with the new. ASUS has updated some of the components on the board, and changed the interface. The AV200 HD audio processor is still there, which means that this card supports most every audio acronym under the sun. However the D2X uses the PCI Express bus, which is a huge differentiation from the many other PCI based cards on the market. With our passively cooled Ultimate Sapphire HD 3870 in hand, let’s see how the card is fairing against the 9600GT in both stock and overclocked form. If there’s a card to beat at the moment, it’s the 9600GT." 16. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the Acer P243W 24 inch Widescreen Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "If you haven't gamed on a widescreen monitor yet, you really need to do yourself a favor and buy one, because they are absolutely amazing to game on. The large 24" screen really put me into Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4. I really was amazed by how everything just looked so glossy and smooth. This monitor makes everything crystal clear, and I had absolutely no issues with either monitor during the gaming portion of the subjective viewing. The BenQ monitor wasn't quite as smooth and glossy looking as the Acer monitor was. I played both of those games at 1920 x 1200, which is the highest resolution on both monitors, and I must say that I have never gamed like that. I honestly felt like I was playing my games in HD because everything was so crystal clear. It was a close battle, but I would have to say that the Acer monitor looked slightly better than the BenQ's offering. Also, the Acer has a 2ms response time, while the BenQ has a 6ms response time. I couldn't tell a difference between the two, but it's good to know that the Acer has one of the fastest response times on the market." 21. Welcome to Macintosh Documentary Gets Innovative, Goes to Germany - Published on 06/01/08 "Welcome to Macintosh, The documentary for the rest of us" has been officially selected to present at the 2008 IngenuityFest: Cleveland as well as the 4th Globians Documentary Film Festival in Potsdam, Germany. The documentary made its US premiere earlier this year at the Wisconsin Film Festival in April. Los Angeles, CA - "Welcome to Macintosh, The documentary for the rest of us" has been officially selected to present at the 2008 IngenuityFest: Cleveland as well as the 4th Globians Documentary Film Festival. The documentary made its US premiere earlier this year at the Wisconsin Film Festival in April. "We are very excited to be a part of these film festivals," says Robert Baca, Co-Director of the film. "The film is a great fit for IngenuityFest and Globians is a wonderful venue for international documentaries." * IngenuityFest: Cleveland - July 25th - 27th, 2008 The Ingenuity Festival is a weekend-long celebration of art and high technology, designed for audiences of any age and experience, staged in the center of Downtown Cleveland, Ohio. "Welcome to Macintosh will be one of only four feature length movies presented, so it is truly an honor to participate," says Josh Rizzo, Co-Director of the film. "Hi-Tech Robotics, 3D Art, Live Music and Welcome to Macintosh? It doesn't get much better than that." The Ingenuity concept pushes boundaries and fosters collaboration between art-based and technology-based initiatives, creating a unique festival experience that draws and celebrates diversity, and involves the audience as both spectator and participant. * Globians World and Culture Film Festival: August 8th - 17th, 2008 This annual international documentary film festival focuses on "world and culture" topics and Globians as a lifestyle: documentaries on a wide array of topics, all in one place - Potsdam Germany. "We are very happy to be able to show the film to a European audience," says Baca. "We have received hundreds of requests to bring the film overseas, and now we get to show it on the big screen." Founded in 2005, the Globians World and Culture Documentary Film Festival is a ten-day event held in Potsdam, Germany. The Globians website states "Potsdam is fun, pretty much what "Berkeley" is to "San Francisco". With us you have focused and relaxed festival atmosphere with all of the pleasures of "the big city" Berlin, right next door. It's only a 17 minute train ride from Potsdam's main station to Berlin's Bahnhof Zoo and travel time from Berlin to Prague is short." "The goal was to make a film that you can show to anyone, anywhere, and have them understand why so many people love Macintosh," says Rizzo. "Having been selected to present at such diverse festivals is a sign that we are achieving that goal." The event dates are tentatively scheduled for Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th at IngenuityFest, and Tuesday August 12th at Globians. Globians will offer a repeat of the festival September 1st through 8th, with Welcome to Macintosh screening on the 5th. Both Robert Baca and Josh Rizzo are planning to attend all events (with the exception of the September 5th screening). Tickets will be available through the festival websites. In addition to the Official Movie Website, the Welcome to Macintosh Network includes exclusive behind the scenes content including photos, videos, discussions. 23. I am pleased to announce version 0.6.6.2 of the Python bindings for PySwfdec. It is available at: http://www.gnome.org/~gianmt/pyswfdec-0.6.6.2.tar.gz MD5: d490f54816535468225e65a605c3763c The bindings are updated with the new Swfdec API 0.6.6 PySwfdec 0.6.6.2 (Jun 01 2008) =================================== o Fix swfdec.URL and make AsDebugger optional in swfdec.Player constructor. (Gian Mario) o Manually wrap swfdec.ui.Player constructor. (Gian Mario) o Make a very simple (but working this time..) example. (Gian Mario) o Manually wrap swfdec_player_render to work around a segfault (possibly pycairo API change). (Gian Mario) o Restore swfdec.Audio. (Gian Mario) o Rewrite the docs. (Gian Mario) o Fix function names. (Gian Mario) Blurb: ====== Swfdec [1] is the library for decoding and rendering Flash animations. It is still in heavy development. The intended audience are developers or people using it for pretested Flash animations (think embedded here). If you use it on unknown content, expect it to have issues and don't be surprised if it crashes. If you encounter such a crash however, make sure to file a bug [2] immediately. PySwfdec is a wrapper which exposes the Swfdec API to the python world. It is fairly complete; most of the API are covered. The documentation is a work in progress, needs quite a lot of work in order to cover 100% of the API, anyway help will be greatly appreciated. Like the GTK+ library, PyGTK and Swfdec itself PySwfdec is licensed under the GNU LGPL, so is suitable for use in both free software and proprietary applications. PySwfdec requires: ===================== o Swfdec = 0.6.6 o PyGObject >= 2.10.1 (2.11.3 to build the docs) o PyGTK >= 2.10.4 o Pycairo >= 1.2.0 Bug reports should go to https://launchpad.net/pyswfdec/ [1] http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/wiki/ [2] https://bugzilla.freedesktop.org Use the swfdec component. cheers -- Gian Mario Tagliaretti _______________________________________________
  24. Hi all, As we begin the homestretch around finalizing FUDCon Boston, I wanted to clarify a few things about the importance of pre-registering, and also about the travel and hotel sponsorships. FUDCon Boston has a number of constraints on its budget, including: 1) Signage at the Hynes Convention center during the two days we are there. 2) Snacks and drinks at the Hynes Convention center, only for those who have pre-registered on the FUDCon page (and who will therefore receive some sort of badge). 3) Tshirts, again, only guaranteed for those who have pre-registered, though there may be extras, depending on the way the price points break down. 4) Breakfast and lunch at the Saturday BarCamp at Boston University, again for those who have pre-registered. 5) Security and facilities at Boston University. 6) FUDPub (space and 1 round of drinks free). 7) Travel and hotel sponsorship, as appropriate. We have made it a habit of sponsoring community travel and lodging at the last 3 (including this one) North American FUDCons, at least. We are doing it again this time. The number of people whom we would like to sponsor is always higher than the number that our budget allows us to sponsor. For FUDCon Boston, all of the sponsorships that we are doing have already been finalized, and I'll be re-confirming that with each person in the next 48 hours, but you already know who you are. We've been able to sponsor a number of community members for this FUDCon, all from North America. Since we are globalizing FUDCons this year, we plan to try to spend our sponsorship money on people who are already geographically close to each location, to maximize efficiency. As such, European contributors will be sponsored for the Europe FUDCon in September, and Asia/India/Australia contributors will be sponsored for the APAC FUDCon currently in planning stages for next January. We've currently got 97 people pre-registered for FUDCon Boston, which is a great number, since past FUDCons have suggested that about 50 people show up day-of who didn't bother to pre-register. If there are any questions about FUDCon Boston, please contact myself and Paul Frields. Looking forward to seeing all of you, Max --
