Futurelooks News Flash - Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii Review
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Hello Again, Futurelooks has some good ole Mario racing fun... Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii Review I remember playing the first Super Mario Kart on the old Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The graphics were nowhere near as good as they are today, but the first Mario Kart really opened up a whole new world of racing games. As time went on, I progressed to extract a fair bit of enjoyment out of sequels like Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart DS. If you’ve ever played any of these shell-filled racers in the past, you’ll know exactly what to expect from the latest iteration in the series: Mario Kart Wii. Direct Link: http://www.futurelooks.com/mario-kart-for-the-nintendo-wii-review/ A post to your news would be most appreciated! Regards, -The Futurelooks Team- www.futurelooks.com -
Hi all, We have posted a review of Hypersonic's upcoming sub-notebook, the Avenger AG2. Title: Hypersonic Avenger AG2 12" Notebook ( -at -) Techgage Link: http://techgage.com/article/hypersonic_avenger_ag2_12_notebook/ Quote: Hypersonic's known for building performance PCs, so where did this sub-notebook come from? Don't worry, it packs a punch, with its 2.5GHz Intel CPU, 4GB of RAM and 200GB 7200RPM hard drive. After taking pricing and feature set into consideration, we have good reason to be impressed.

Point of View GeForce 9600 GSO 386 MB review <http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-9600-gso-386-mb-review-point-of-view/> NVIDIA replaced the GeForce 8800 GS with the GeForce 9600 GSO. The 9600 GSO is still based on the same G92 core with 96 stream processors that the 8800 GS has, but NVIDIA gave card makers a bit more freedom in their designs in terms of own PCB design to and determine their own clocks. This 'old' card will still have 384 MB of GDDR3 memory over a weird 192-bit memory interface. Cards like these will sell for less than 99 Euro, and considering the performance you get returned for that, you'll love it. Guru3D peeks at Point of View's offering with a 14 page review. Fellow Webmasters, Site Owners and Newsposters, Tweaknews.net has released yet another review onto the internet. I was wondering if you could please post it in today's news for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Article Name: Buying a New Computer Today: Force Fed Technology That The Average Consumer Doesn't Need Editorial ( -at -) Tweaknews.net Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/forcefed/ Article PIC: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/forcefed/img/email.jpg Article Snippet: "To help me convince you that this is also true for the computer hardware industry, tell me if you have heard of anyone saying, “Man I just bought this computer 6 months ago and it is now obsolete!”. But who dictates that a computer is obsolete? Just because Rev.B of your motherboard came out, or the latest processor is 200Mhz faster than yours doesn't mean your computer is obsolete. If it accomplishes the tasks you need, it is only obsolete when it won't do a specific task for you, and nothing less. The computer industry will try to convince you that yours is obsolete by releasing a new product every six months in order to keep their sales figures high and put pressure on the layman to replce their computer." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Could you email back saying you posted it, TWEAK IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT!!!! Many Thanks, Nathan Glentworth Owner / Head Editor nathan ( -at -) tweaknews.net www.Tweaknews.net www.Tweaknews.com

Hi all, We have just published a review of *Grand Theft Auto IV* for Xbox 360 - if you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/05/13/grand-theft-auto-iv/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/05/grand-theft-auto-iv/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"Grand Theft Auto IV is a great game and although it's still very early in the year, this is obviously going to be a strong candidate for Game of The Year. It always was, frankly. Yet, there's still a little niggle of doubt in our ears here -- something that says that although Grand Theft Auto IV is a great game, it just isn't the huge leap forward we all expected it to be. This seed of doubt says that GTA IV is far more an evolution than a revolution and that that is obviously going to limit the overall impact and impression of the game. That doubt is true and is utterly justified in what it says when you sit down to really listen to it. Grand Theft Auto is a top-notch game, but it isn't as mind-blowing and impressive as something like Portal, for example. It's building on the foundations of previous games in the series and adding on a few extra features each time -- it isn't completely new and fresh itself. That doesn't make Grand Theft Auto IV any less of a Game of The Year candidate and it doesn't take anything away from the insane amount of fun to be had. What it does do though is make the entire experience a little more predictable; a lot of the time you know what's coming beforehand and the first third of everything feels like jumping through hoops just to meet an old friend. It's not game-wrecking and it doesn't detract from how great GTA IV is as a whole, but GTA IV isn't as original and shockingly good as the franchise once was. It's another re-polished and re-tuned iteration of a proven idea and though the game is definitely a must-buy, it also isn't all that startling." /* *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

Hi all, We have just published an editorial titled *A Picture-Perfect Quandary*,* *which discusses the battle between consumers' and games publishers' rights when it comes to copy protection in the latest crop of PC games. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Description:* Copy protection and piracy seem like two inescapable forces in modern digital media. But is either side right? Brett Thomas sounds off about pretty pictures, perils of intellectual property, and the dollars and cents behind everyone's favourite "freedom fighters." *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/columns/2008/05/13/picture-perfect-quandary/1 ** *Quote: */"Adding to the already very muddy waters are those stuck in the fringes of each camp. No matter who says otherwise, there are many people who turn away from legal software as their legal copies don't work (while the cracked ones all do). There are also people who let the light bulb turn on that someone is profiting from all of the piracy -- all of the major sites are packed with ads, which makes one lose quite a bit of faith in the whole "robin-hood" ideals that the groups attempt to foster. Let's strip the wilful naivety away -- copy protection and piracy are both / /businesses that have sprung up to play on our fears as producers and consumers. Neither side is doing it out of the goodness of their own heart. By rallying behind one, the other gets a new reason to go a step farther. And the producers bite into the apple fed by the DRM makers the same way we bite into the one fed by the pirates. I mean, let's be serious for a minute -- do you / /really think EA came up with that monstrosity //all by itself? EA owns a lot of development houses, but none of them are copy-protection studios. Someone actually //sold this to the //people that work there (yes, there really are people and not just heartless robots). Someone actually told them, "Hey, now //this -- this is a good idea. You should use it." I hope he hid his horns under a hat. Devilish as it may be, it's also a fear tactic that's been proven to work...partially because with as much as we look at our piracy as justified---however easy it may be (and oh, it is / /so easy at times)---we become part of what the industry really does have to fear. We know piracy doesn't translate to dollar to dollar sales loss -- we're all smarter than that. It leaves us questioning even the fair and real figures, feeling lied to at every turn." /* *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - In Win B2 Stealth Bomber Mid Tower Case QUOTE: "With looks based off the design concept of the B2 Stealth Bomber, this B2 enclosure has some features that are not commonplace. The big question, though, is whether it can handle the rigors of a high-end system and manage to not only give it a good home, but to do so in a cool manner. We begin our tour of the B2 Stealth Bomber by noting the lack of a door on the front bezel. The bezel is made of plastic like many other enclosures, but there is not a door in the normal sense that we have come to expect. As implied by the name of this case, stealth is the key. Let’s take a closer look..." A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the Apevia X-Telstar Red/Black Case Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "During testing, I noticed that my power LED was not working. It was not the motherboard pins, I tested the motherboard with a spare LED, which worked. I took apart the front panel to check to see if the power LED was hooked up correctly and found that the top Apevia circle logo also had an LED, which is hooked up to the power LED line (in parallel). Apparently, that logo was also supposed to be lit. Interesting that both LEDs would not work." Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming Mouse Review ( -at -) CoolTechZone.com "Microsoft jumps onboard with high-end gaming mice with its newly released Sidewinder. For lack of a better word, it?s interesting, and certainly a noteworthy competitor to Logitech?s G5 gaming mouse. Just like Logitech?s G5, the Sidewinder is USB 2.0, wired and has a customizable weight kit. Not to mention, it offers 2,000dpi, the highest resolution in gaming mice to date. However, there are dissimilarities that position Microsoft?s Sidewinder in a category of its own." Scythe Kama Bay Amp ( -at -) DreamWare Computers Quote: "Every once and a while we get those truly unique products that pass by our test bench. Some of them leave us thinking "why?" and others turn out to be incredibly useful inventions. Today's new and interesting product is the Kama Bay Amp from our friends over at Scythe. This is a two channel 10Wx2 speaker amplifier that is small enough to be mounted in a single 5.25" drive bay and classy enough to be run as a standalone unit on your desk or entertainment rack. Since both are valid options to choose, Scythe hasn't fallen short in providing every single accessory you may need to do either task with the amplifier. Time to give things a run for their money and see if this inexpensive little amplifier will be enough to satisfy the needs of those who may be shopping for a product like this." AOOH-GAH -------- If you have no clue what GDM is, refer to the documentation links at the bottom of this announcement. The 2.20.6 release is a stable release of the GNOME Display Manager (GDM) program with the following bug fixes and improvements: - Fix two related bugs that were causing GDM to crash regularly on exit. Refer to bug #517526. (Brian Cameron) - Fix a third bug that was causing the GDM daemon to crash occasionally when using gdmsetup. This fix changes GDM so that when it receives an UPDATE_CONFIG command, it only updates the key specified rather than re-reading the entire configuration file. Fixes bug #517526. (Brian Cameron) - Sync to avoid any XIO errors after session exits. (Ray Strode) - Fix so that the XDMCP configuration values are read from the configuration file when the XDMCP manager is started rather than initialized. It seems the related fixes implemented in 2.20.2 did not fully resolve this issue. (Brian Cameron) - Fix bug that was causing GDM session desktop file marked as "Hidden=true" to show up in the Session dialog. (Brian Cameron) - Fix gdmsetup bug that caused users to need to restart GDM in order for it to notice changes made in the "Server settings" dialog. (Brian Cameron) - Fix gdmsetup so it does not save 24HourClock setting as a translated string, which was causing the configuration to get confused. (Brian Cameron) - If the user's $HOME/.dmrc file does not exist, avoid calling gkeyfile functions. This avoids useless gkeyfile warning messages about the file being NULL. A previous fix in 2.20.1 minimized this problem by creating the file if it did not exist. However, that does not always work if the user's $HOME directory is not writable (e.g. LiveCD). So this fix avoids the warnings. (Brian Cameron) - Add default OpenBSD Halt, Reboot and Suspend commands to the configure script. (Jasper Lievisse Adriaanse) - Remove broken logic in the configure script that was trying to append ${prefix}/bin to the DefaultPath and RootPath. Please use the --with-post-path configure option if you want to add custom directories to the end of DefaultPath and RootPath. (Brian Cameron) - Fix the way the Xsession script is built so that distros can more easily add their own custom logic to the Xsession script. Some Solaris specific code was moved to the Xsession.solaris file so that other distros do not get affected by this code. Remove logic to normalize LC_ variables since this was causing problems for some users. Refer to bug #509141 (Takao Fujiwara) Note: GDM2 was originally written by Martin K. Petersen . Much work has been done on GDM2 by George Lebl; and Brian Cameron. Note2: If installing from the tarball do note that make install overwrites most of the setup files, all except gdm.conf. It will however save backups with the .orig extension first. #ifndef GDM_DISABLE_DEPRECATED Note3: Note3 has been depracated ... #endif /* GDM_DISABLE_DEPRECATED */ Downloading: ============ Online Documentation - http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/ Latest Stable - http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gdm/2.20/ Latest Unstable - http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gdm/2.22/ Bug Reporting - http://bugzilla.gnome.org in the "gdm" category. No bigger than a small battery, OCZ's latest Rally is sleeker and more ergonomic than the original. "The OCZ Technology 4GB Rally2 USB Flash Drive is the fastest flash drive I've had the opportunity to work with. iGet Mobile 2.0 improves remote Mac access from iPhone, iPod, and PC

iGet Mobile 2.0 improves remote Mac access from iPhone, iPod, and PC - Published on 05/12/08 Nakahara Informatics, Inc. today announced the release of iGet Mobile 2.0, the next generation of the company's remote Mac access software for iPhone, iPod Touch and other web-capable devices. iGet Mobile gives Mac users a personal web interface to access their documents remotely, with a special emphasis on making various types of data more accessible on small-form-factor devices. Ithaca, New York - Nakahara Informatics, Inc. today announced the release of iGet Mobile 2.0, the next generation of the company's remote Mac access software for iPhone, iPod Touch and other web-capable devices. iGet Mobile gives Mac users a personal web interface to access their documents remotely, with a special emphasis on making various types of data more accessible on small-form-factor devices. Version 2.0 sports new iPhone-specific features in the web interface, an improved web server component, a completely redesigned user interface for the Mac application, and many other enhancements. Automatic network configuration is also improved, making it easy for most Mac users to make their personal servers accessible from the Internet without requiring networking expertise. "It's just cool," said one user who participated in the beta test. "Instead of 8GB, it's like having a 500GB iPhone, because everything on my iMac at home is basically always in my pocket." "We're tremendously excited about this release," said CEO Christopher Martin. "The iPhone is certainly the most interesting new platform in a decade, and it's been a catalyst for innovation. Last year, we released iGet Mobile 1.0 in record time, due to insistent demand from customers who wanted a solution for accessing the Mac from the iPhone as soon as we could possibly deliver it. Now, with this second major release, we've not only been able to add new features, but have also added a lot more polish in terms of how the application looks and behaves. So we're very pleased to make this release available as a free upgrade for all our customers." iGet Mobile not only allows users to browse their Macs remotely, but can also perform on-the-fly document conversions that make many common Mac file types more compatible with mobile devices. This means that a 50MB high-resolution Photoshop image file can be reduced in size and converted to a standard image format, or that a rich-text RTFD document can be instantly converted to PDF format, before being viewed on an iPhone. While designed with the iPhone specifically in mind, iGet Mobile allows users to access their Macs from "any decently web-capable device", Martin added. iGet Mobile 2.0 is available immediately from the company's web site. The software will run in full-featured demo mode, allowing users to try out all of its features before purchasing a license. iGet Mobile was designed from the ground up using the latest Apple technologies, and it requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later. It will run on any Mac that supports this version of the OS. Pricing and Availability: iGet Mobile 2.0 is available immediately from the company's web site. Regularly priced at $39, the software is currently available for the special promotional price of only $29 USD, for a limited time. Creaceed releases Hydra 1.5 Stand Alone and Aperture PlugIn (Beta)

Creaceed releases Hydra 1.5 Stand Alone and Aperture PlugIn (Beta) - Published on 05/12/08 Creaceed, the company behind Hydra, Morph Age, and Magnet, today ships brand new version 1.5 of Hydra for easy HDR image creation on Mac OS X Leopard with updated imaging pipeline and Aperture integration. Hydra gives human eye perception to photographs by creating high dynamic range (HDR) images from a series of regular photographs, either from DSLRs or traditional point-and-shoot cameras. Mons, Belgium - Creaceed, the company behind Hydra, Morph Age, and Magnet, today ships brand new version 1.5 of Hydra for easy HDR image creation on Mac OS X Leopard with updated imaging pipeline and Aperture integration. This major update of Hydra has many new features that will boost user experience: * Import / export to Aperture * Direct process within Aperture thanks to HydraPlugIn for Aperture in beta version * True HDR Merging (existing image blending still available) * Tone mapping including Highlight Compression and Local Adaptation * RAW photo imports with the same cameras supported by Aperture * DNG photo imports (for unsupported cameras, use Adobe DNG Converter) * OpenEXR image export to preserve full image dynamics * Saving presets for later reuse * Improved user experience and better fullscreen mode * Improved processing speed and accuracy. Hydra is faster than ever: less than 20 seconds rendering time for a 20-Megapixel image. What is Hydra? Hydra gives human eye perception to photographs by creating high dynamic range (HDR) images from a series of regular photographs, either from DSLRs or traditional point-and-shoot cameras. The created image compensates for the limited dynamic range of cameras and it more closely resembles what is actually seen. Unlike most HDR softwares, Hydra does not require images taken with a tripod. Hydra's advanced image processing pipeline first aligns the images with a non-linear warping algorithm (inherited from Morph Age) and then merges them in a smart way to preserve the interesting inputs of each image. This method has been entirely implemented on the GPU to provide interactive previewing, thanks to core Mac OS X technologies. This allows to accurately tune all parameters (alignment, merging) in real time while observing the changing result before rendering the full resolution image (resolutions above 20 Megapixels supported). Pricing and Availability: Hydra 1.5 is immediately available from Creaceed's website at $59.95 (US). It requires any Mac running Mac OS X Leopard and with at least 64 MB of video memory. Intel Mac with 128 recommended. Hydra 1.5 is free for existing Hydra 1.0 owners. Title: ASUS 8600GT TOP Video Card Reviewed ( -at -) TheTechLounge Quote: "I was a bit surprised that Asus asked us to review their *flagship budget* -- it's weird just writing that -- 8600 GT TOP. It's new SKU for a card closing in on its end of life; the model being about a year old now. Just the same, with a hundred-dollar price tag, it's definitely got an audience, no matter what cards there are competing against it, or what cards have been released since. And it's a pretty highly-regarded card; go on any hardware forum and there's a dozen NVIDIA people extolling the virtues of the 8600 GTs when it comes to budget gaming. Now, I'm not saying that they're all wrong, but it is worth finding out if new drivers and some moderate factory overclocking can put value on an otherwise dated video card."
