  1. Hello Technology News Community, I4U NEWS reviews the Gateway C-141x Convertable Tablet Notebook. Quote from the review: "Today we are checking out one very nice convertible tablet notebook from Gateway called the Gateway C-141x. This notebook retails for under $1000 and has great performance as a tablet and a notebook. Overall, the Gateway C-141X is a great tablet convertible that works equally well as a tablet and as a notebook. The bargain price of the machine makes up for its general large size and heavy weight making it a great option in the sub-$1000 category." 4. Hi all, We have just published an interview with *Josh Drescher, producer for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning*. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/05/09/warhammer-online-interview-josh-drescher/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/05/warhammer-online-interview-josh-drescher/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"BT: So, speaking of other Warhammer games, did you know about Iron Lore shutting down? Their last game was the Warhammer 40K Dawn of War: Soulstorm expansion and the company said that piracy played a big part in their closure. JD: Yeah, well if I'm honest then piracy is the number one concern for a PC gaming developer. BT: You think it's putting off a lot of PC developers and driving them to consoles? JD: I think that in other genres, yes. Luckily, as an MMO we're largely insulated from all that because of our model. It's impossible for a player to pirate our game and, even if they did, then it'd be them alone in their basement. For our game to make sense you need thousands of players all playing together on a massive architecture. As a result, we're very attracted to Asian markets along with Russia and China -- places where piracy is everywhere. Piracy is just a pandemic there. So, while we're very worried about it, it doesn't really affect us as much. Obviously, I can't speak for other developers like Iron Lore. But, y'know I had friends who worked there and we tried to bring a load of them over to us when they closed. If they say piracy was a problem for them then I absolutely believe them. Piracy is why we see so many samey shooters." /* *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

Background ========== The Linux Terminal Server Project adds thin-client support to Linux servers. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 net-misc/ltsp < 5.0 Vulnerable! ------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Certain packages are still vulnerable. Users should migrate to another package if one is available or wait for the existing packages to be marked stable by their architecture maintainers. Description =========== LTSP version 4.2, ships prebuilt copies of programs such as the Linux Kernel, the X.org X11 server (GLSA 200705-06, GLSA 200710-16, GLSA 200801-09), libpng (GLSA 200705-24, GLSA 200711-08), Freetype (GLSA 200705-02, GLSA 200705-22) and OpenSSL (GLSA 200710-06, GLSA 200710-30) which were subject to multiple security vulnerabilities since 2006. Please note that the given list of vulnerabilities might not be exhaustive. Impact ====== A remote attacker could possibly exploit vulnerabilities in the aforementioned programs and execute arbitrary code, disclose sensitive data or cause a Denial of Service within LTSP 4.2 clients. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== LTSP 4.2 is not maintained upstream in favor of version 5. Since version 5 is not yet available in Gentoo, the package has been masked. We recommend that users unmerge LTSP: # emerge --unmerge net-misc/ltsp If you have a requirement for Linux Terminal Servers, please either set up a terminal server by hand or use one of the distributions that already migrated to LTSP 5. If you want to contribute to the integration of LTSP 5 in Gentoo, or want to follow its development, find details in bug 177580. Sursee, Switzerland - uncomplex gmbh has released Mailplane 2.0 Beta for worldwide testing. Acting as a site specific web browser for Google's Gmail, Mailplane is a full fledged Mail client for the Desktop. Beta 2.0 sports many new features, including full Gmail 2 support, new Gmail add-ons and keyboard shortcuts, better account notifications, more ways to create email attachments, plus a new OmniFocus clipping plugin. Mailplane fully integrates the Gmail web interface into the Mac experience, offering users the best of both worlds. And since Mailplane doesn't change the way Gmail works, its unique features can still be enjoyed, including conversations, labels, global access, endless storage, spam protection, and the ever fast and powerful Google search. Mailplane supports multiple Gmail and Google Apps accounts; the app lets the user easily switch between accounts without the need to sign in/sign out from the Gmail accounts. With full iLife integration, users can browse and attach files from their iPhoto and iTunes libraries. Downloads can be directly imported into iPhoto as well. The integrated screenshot tool lets the user take and attach a window, screen or region. Users can Drag and Drop files and images on the dock application icon, or any Mailplane window to create and upload attachments. And with automatic photo optimization, image attachments can be converted and resized to make the message even smaller. Mailplane can play a user defined sound, as well as show the number of unread messages in the application icon, account drawer and status menu item. 20. Today we look at the GIGABYTE X48T-DQ6. SNIP: Today we are going to take a look at GIGABYTE's high end motherboard, the X48T-DQ6. GIGABYTE makes two versions of this board utilizing Intel's X48 chipset. The X48 which is a DDR2 variant and the X48T which is the DDR3 version that we will be covering today. The X48 brings minimal changes to the chipset when compared to the X38 and the only tangible difference should be more overclocking headroom. In recent years GIGABYTE has truly reinvented itself as a leader in innovation. In today's world the name of the game, or color to be more specific, is green. We have green cars, green homes and now you can add motherboards to the growing list of items going green. GIGABYTE has made a concerted effort to produce motherboards that use the least amount of energy possible without sacrificing performance. A task not easily accomplished. To this end they have dubbed this innovation DES or Dynamic Energy Saver. A system which can adjust voltage, power phases and clocks speeds of the board and CPU to ensure as little energy as possile is wasted while providing as much power as needed. Is it possible to have a power efficient system without losing performance? Let's find out. http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1269 A post on your site would be great if you can. Thank you, Scott -----------------------------------------

  24. Hi all, We have just published a review of *Iron Man: The Game* for Xbox 360. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/05/09/iron-man/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/05/iron-man/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"There's nothing wrong with bad graphics in a game. There have been plenty of games in the past that have proved you don't need billions of polygons to make a best-seller -- look at Pac-man or Tetris for crying out loud. Likewise, glitches and bugs didn't completely spoil games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and might not have proved to be the end of Iron Man. Hell, you don't even need to have a great new mechanic or fantastic new idea to make a great game. Beat 'em ups have been spinning the same tricks ever since International Karate +. There is something wrong with a game that combines all of these with a total lack of shame. This isn't a game that is even remotely good, this is a game that someone hoped would make a lot of money and it's a perfect example of why movies and games just don't mix for the most part -- Iron Man: The Game is little more than a bucket of broken promises and rust." /* *Cheers guys! 25. http://www.driverheaven.net/gamingreviews.php?reviewid=594 Iron Man (PC) - Gaming Heaven Review One of this year's biggest movies is set to be Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. and of course with a blockbuster this size comes the obligatory game tie in. Unfortunately while the film is entertaining and fun, the game ends up a mish-mash of instantly forgettable proportions. You are cast as Shellhead and there are around 14 levels containing characters which were not in the movie such as Controller and Whiplash. Equally so, the game plot has very few similarities with the movie and when you combine this with the appalling audio quality it is a less than satisfying escapade.
