NVIDIA nForce 7 AMD Series Arrives - ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe Motherboard @ Legit Reviews
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
NVIDIA nForce 7 AMD Series Arrives - ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe Motherboard More than five months ago, NVIDIA announced the industry’s first hybrid technology for PC platforms during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. During this time, they also showed off the nForce 780a SLI motherboards that were due out in Q1 2008. It seems things got pushed back as NVIDIA is officially announcing the nForce 7 series today in Q2 2008. Quote: "We compared the nForce 780a SLI to the AMD 780G since we wanted to test out the integrated graphics and PureVideo HD functionality as well as general performance. It seems to have paid off; the test results were interesting as the HD DVD playback testing over the HDMI output showed that NVIDIA passed up ATI when it comes to offloading the CPU usage. NVIDIA claims that an HT3-based Phenom CPU is required to provide the necessary bandwidth when playing HD video using the motherboard GPU. Our testing showed this is not true, but NVIDIA claims moving from a HT1 processor to HT3 will give the integrated graphics the bandwidth it needs to better render HD content. This is something we will check out later, because if we are impressed with what a 2.5GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core CPU can do with HT1, we'd better be sitting down for some Phenom 50-series action..." Thermolab Nano Silencer TLI-U Low-Profile Heatsink Review "The Nano Silencer TLI-U is ideally sized for 1U server chassis, nano formfactor PCs, car PCs and media center microATX-style cases. The entire TLI-U heatsink stands no taller than 45mm, and uses the same swagged aluminum fin technique as the Micro Silencer model. Twin sintered wick copper heatpipes and a total weight of just 214 grams make the TLI-U a capable low mass cooler for weight sensitive applications. For the sake of convenience the heatsink even comes with a pre-applied patch of 8 W/mK rated gray thermal interface material on the bottom." TechwareLabs has published a review of the Logitech diNovo Mini. Here's a clip from the review: Quote: As the Media Center or Home Theatre PC becomes more popular in homes the need for a better way to interact with the PC on the other end becomes critical. While the standard remote control may be good for most functions, what do you do when you have the need to input information or data, or type in searches? Logitech has created the diNovo Mini which is essentially a tiny bluetooth keyboard which allows you much greater freedom with your HTPC. The diNovo Mini combines all the functionality of a touchpad, keyboard, and hotkeys all into one tiny palmtop package that even has back lighting. Check out our review of this cool accessory. [Tech ARP] Western Digital 320 GB Scorpio Notebook Hard Drive Review
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Hello fellow editors! Tech ARP ( http://www.techarp.com/ <http://www.techarp.com/>'>http://www.techarp.com/> ) has just posted the Western Digital 320 GB Scorpio Notebook Hard Drive Review. Quote - Many of us have probably wondered why Western Digital never came out with a 7200 RPM notebook hard drive. Well, they didn't need to. Their Scorpio family of 2.5" hard drives may run at "only" 5400 RPM but they are actually fast enough to rival desktop hard drives running at 7200 RPM! Unbelievable? Here's a quote from the review :- "Although Western Digital did not reveal it, the Scorpio is certainly making use of perpendicular recording technology to achieve its performance levels. Of course, there's only so much they can do with perpendicular recording technology. It is likely that the Scorpio also uses four platters to attain its remarkable storage capacity of 320 GB." Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Audio) - Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 Sound Card QUOTE: "From a technical point of view we understand that Auzentech has fully licensed Creative Labs’ X-Fi chip onto their own proprietary circuit board design. So what does that mean? Well it means arguably the world’s fastest and most advanced audio processing at the average consumers reach right now, with upcoming driver support for Dolby Live, DTS interactive and since we have a Creative chip, the very latest in EAX surround technology. My first impressions were good with a very noticeable notch up from the low-end after swapping from the Xonar. Not only did the low-end sound a lot beefier, it had a lot more character to it; more warmth and depth." Scanning Is Back: DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.2 and more - Published on 05/06/08 DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases maintenance and feature updates for all editions of its information manager DEVONthink as well as for the intelligent note-keeper DEVONnote. DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.2 reintroduces scanning support for flatbed and automatic document feeder scanners. Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA) - DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases maintenance and feature updates for all editions of its information manager DEVONthink as well as for the intelligent note-keeper DEVONnote. DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.2 reintroduces scanning support for flatbed and - new! - automatic document feeder (ADF) scanners. The new scan function uses an embedded version of ExactCode's pro-grade scan software ExactScan and supports all scanners that come with a TWAIN or an Image Capture driver. The embedded ExactScan Capture software provides many more advanced options such as file naming patterns, color correction, auto-crop and de-skew, de-screening, and optimization for black-and-white copies. The previous scan function used Apple's Image Capture which worked fine on Mac OS X 10.4 'Tiger' but was broken for third-party applications on Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard'. In addition, DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.2 comes with a completely revised iPhone web application and adds a number of preferences options for enabling or disabling OCR for incoming files and for moving documents to the trash that have been successfully converted to a searchable PDF through OCR. Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager support now also handles ScanSnap Manager's new preferences file format. All four editions, DEVONthink Pro (Office) 1.5.2, DEVONthink Personal 1.9.14, and DEVONnote 1.9.14, feature a number of minor interface and performance enhancements, too. This includes better web cache management and more reliable thumbnail generation for QuickTime movies (DEVONthink only). DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office also come with improved AppleScript support. Many internal functions have been updated as well and many minor bugs and glitches have been fixed. Availability And Pricing: All applications require Mac OS X 10.4 or later and can be downloaded from their website. DEVONthink and DEVONnote can be test-driven for free for 150 hours of non-continuous runtime until they need to be properly licensed. DEVONthink Professional Office sells for $149.95 USD, DEVONthink Professional for $79.95 USD, DEVONthink Personal for $39.95 USD, and DEVONnote for $19.95 USD in DEVONtechnologies' online shop. DEVONthink Pro Office and DEVONthink Pro are also available with the Internet research agent DEVONagent as bundles. Background: Devonthink In today's world, everything is digital. From shopping receipts to important research papers, peoples' lives often fill their hard drives with emails, PDFs, Word documents, multimedia files and more. Questions eventually pop up, like where to store all of this stuff? How to organize these very different file types, and even better, how to find the exact file one is looking for the second one needs it? It's almost as if one needs a second brain just to keep one's digital life straight. Enter DEVONthink: The solution to this digital age conundrum. It is a second brain, the one and only database for all digital files, be they PDFs, emails, Word documents or even multimedia files. Boasting a refined artificial intelligence, DEVONthink is exceedingly flexible and adapts to the user's personal needs. And if the files are not digital yet, paper capture support is already built-in (DEVONthink Pro Office only.) Users can use it as their document repository, their filing cabinet, their email archive, or their project organizer; DEVONthink can do it all. One can even collect and organize data from the web, enrich it with sound and movie files, and then export the finished product as a website or to an Apple Pages document to print. Or one can copy the content to an iPod! The possibilities are only as limited as the user's imagination. The Database For The Internet Age Because DEVONthink keeps all important data in one database, it doesn't matter where the data is physically located. DEVONthink uniquely integrates both local documents and live content from the Internet to keep all information related to a project together in one place. No more folders full of loosely organized files and overflowing bookmark bars in Safari; with DEVONthink, the user seamlessly mixes local documents, clippings, and live web pages in one dynamic database. The Digital Workplace DEVONthink is not only a simple database, it's a flexible work environment, too, with powerful management features suited to any professional project. It provides the user with all the tools she or he needs to effectively work with documents. The integrated RTF editor makes it easy to write new documents, or the users can open documents in a third-party application. Intelligent Assistant DEVONthink is based on a powerful artificial intelligence (AI) architecture that helps organize and navigate information collections quickly and accurately. It assists its users with both filing documents and with finding similar items, and can help make connections that they might have missed on their own. It can even master huge data collections with a few simple clicks, saving time and aggravation. Share The Knowledge Finally, DEVONthink Pro Office allows to share the accumulated and organized knowledge. Users can post it to their websites, or they can let their coworkers access databases with a familiar search-engine like interface using standard web browsers. Depending on the network setup, it's even possible to search shared databases over the Internet. A JavaScript applet gives convenient access to the database also from the Apple iPhone. Background: Devonnote DEVONnote helps taking notes and keeping them organized. It keeps ideas, documents, important information, and even web browser bookmarks in one single, accessible place. DEVONnote supports the user with professional, easy-to-use features, and helps create structure out of chaos. DEVONnote is the most sophisticated notepad application for Mac OS X, and the only one that uses AI (artificial intelligence) instead of relying on your NI (natural intelligence). DEVONnote was designed with the typical Mac user in mind. It comes with a clean, easy-to-use interface that gives you all the tools you need in a familiar Mac-like package. Even the most complex AI functions are just "buttons", meaning one simple click can send DEVONnote into action, digging through all of your data to find a place for your latest note, or to show you all your ideas and concepts that are similar to the one you've just selected. Of course, creative people don't just 'have thoughts', they often need new 'input', too. DEVONnote comes with a complete Safari-based web browser and solid, but flexible, bookmark-managing capabilities. With DEVONnote, the user can browse the Web and clip the most important information directly to DEVONnote. Finally, DEVONnote displays and regularly reloads web cams directly within the application. We found the Tempest i5400XT to be a real winner and everything had worked terrific with Linux. Hi, little bugfix release for a popular bug I decided to wrap up this morning. What is Glade ? =============== Glade is a RAD tool to enable quick & easy development of user interfaces for the Gtk+ toolkit and the GNOME desktop environment. The user interfaces designed in Glade are stored in XML format, enabling easy integration with external tools. In particular libglade can load the XML files and create the interfaces at runtime. The DTD for the XML files is included with libglade, and is also at http://glade.gnome.org/glade-2.0.dtd. Other tools are available which can turn the XML files into source code in languages such as C++, Perl and Python. ========= Glade 3.4.5 ========= - Fixed annoying text property editing bug (527896) Where can I get it ? ==================== http://download.gnome.org/sources/glade3/3.4/ For more information consult our home page at http://glade.gnome.org/ Enjoy, - The Glade team _______________________________________________

hi everyone; JSON-GLib 0.6.0 is now available for download at: http://folks.o-hand.com/~ebassi/sources/json-glib-0.6.0.tar.gz MD5 checksum: d4fd6b7975aad7ea6795e045aeff40fb json-glib-0.6.0.tar.gz this is the first stable release of the JSON-GLib library for the 0.6 cycle. JSON-GLib is a library providing serialization and deserialization support for the JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format described by RFC 4627. JSON is: a lightweight data-interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. It is based on a subset of the JavaScript Programming Language, Standard ECMA-262 3rd Edition - December 1999. JSON is a text format that is completely language independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the C-family of languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Python, and many others. These properties make JSON an ideal data-interchange language. -- From Introducing JSON Many high-level languages already provide native modules for parsing, generating and manipulating JSON data streams. JSON-GLib is a C library based on GLib and released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1. It provides a parser and a generator GObject classes and various wrappers for the complex data types employed by JSON, such as arrays and objects. JSON-GLib uses GLib native data types and the generic value container GValue for ease of development. It also provides integration with the GObject classes for direct serialization into, and deserialization from, JSON data streams. JSON-GLib currently requires: * GLib 2.16.0, or higher Bugs should be reported to http://bugzilla.openedhand.com in the json-glib product. JSON-GLib is available in GNOME SVN: http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/json-glib/trunk/ The development is mostly done inside a git repository, available at: http://github.com/ebassi/json-glib/tree/master This is the first developers snapshot leading to the upcoming 0.6.0 release; installing this version will overwrite the files currently installed by the 0.4 releases. What's new in JSON-GLib 0.6.0 --------------------------- [in the 0.5.0 release, see previous announcement for details] * Allow deserialization of strings into enum and flag types * Add the :indent-char property to JsonGenerator * Add functions to retrieve copies of the nodes inside Object and Array * Fix leaks and invalid accesses * Use the right type for the buffer length parameter in JsonParser * Provide a default implementation for JsonSerializable * Provide our own JSON tokenizer (using GScanner) for the JSON-only features that would have been lost by using GScanner * Add support for parsing Unicode characters escaped using \uXXXX * Add a fully automated test suite, using the GTest framework * Allow 'null' nodes to return a value without warnings [since the 0.5.0 release] * Make the deserialization of G_TYPE_STRV properties more robust Instead of building up a buffer by concatenating all the strings in the JsonArray, the deserialization code now builds a GPtrArray and passes its contents as the property payload. This increases safety and enhances memory usage. * Export the public symbols only Every symbol starting with "json" is public; everything else should be considered private. * Provide GTypes for the enumerations Enumeration types should have a GType, for eventual bindings. * Avoid a warning when trying to copy an empty JsonNode * Fix gtk-doc cross-references with GLib and GObject documentation ciao, Emmanuele. -- Emmanuele Bassi, OpenedHand Ltd. Dear Media friends, APH Networks has published a new review that your readers might enjoy. A post in your site's news section would be greatly appreciated! * Title: Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe 780a Motherboard ( -at -) APH Networks * Description: An Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe!? What's that? Hey, if you are asking that question, you probably forgot already that there's actually another manufacturer other than Intel that makes CPUs; which goes by the name of "AMD". It's interesting how quickly we forget about the days of glory for AMD and their Athlon 64 back in 2003. But the most important thing is that, AMD is still 'sort of' alive for some competition against microprocessor giant Intel to keep the CPU market 'just sort of' nice and fair. When I received the Asus M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe motherboard for review last month (Which was still on NDA for the chipset), I was excited to see what kind of motherboards were produced currently on the AMD platform. Combined with NVIDIA's flagship 780a chipset, it certainly brought back memories of the whole NVIDIA-AMD combination that ruled back in the days of the MSI K8N-Neo2 Platinum, DFI LanParty Ultra-D, and the Asus A8N-SLI Premium. Driving down to a local computer store to purchase an AMD CPU to go with this review (I mean, I don't actually have an AMD AM2 CPU, haha), I was contemplating on whether I was going to buy a Phenom X4 or just some low cost Athlon 64 X2. Well, to be honest, if I was going to spend over $200 on a processor, it would probably be an Intel Core 2 Quad and not a Phenom X4. To make a long story short, I went with a mid-priced Athlon 64 X2 4400+. Let me tell you this -- I don't really find it funny to pay over $80 with tax for an AMD dual core CPU at this time, partially because I was forced to let Memory Express rip me off -- and really, everyone knows that they aren't the cheapest place to buy computer parts from. But hey, what the heck -- let's pop in this CPU and see how the M3N-HT Deluxe is worthwhile if you prefer the AMD route for your current AM2 computer or whatever your story may be. * Link: http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/asus_m3n_ht_deluxe * Image: http://aphnetworks.com/review/asus_m3n_ht_deluxe/006.JPG

NVIDIA nForce 780a SLI Motherboard Round-Up, Asus, MSI @ HotHardware.com
news posted a topic in Upcoming News
Hello Everyone, It is hard to believe that it has been almost two full years since NVIDIA released a new flagship chipset for the AMD platform. Since the nForce 590i SLI's official release in May of 2006, NVIDIA has introduced a handful of mid-range and more affordable chipsets for AMD processors, but the 590i SLI was it at the high-end, despite AMD's release of new quad-core Phenom processors and competing 7-series chipsets. Early this year while NVIDIA outlined their plans to mix things up at the high-end of their AMD chipset line-up with the IGP-equipped nForce 780a SLI, but it has taken quite a bit of time to bring that product to market. Today though, we present to you three nForce 780a SLI-based motherboards (two from Asus and one from MSI), that are sure to pique the interest of all of the AMD fans out there. For the first time since the Phenom launch, AMD fans will now be able to pair up NVIDIA's flagship graphics configurations with an AMD CPU and exploit all of the features inherent to both. Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since we last saw a high-end chipset for AMD's platform from NVIDIA, but today that imbalance is destroyed with the launch of the nForce 780a. While this news alone is interesting enough, this launch also marks our first opportunity to see NVIDIA's Hybrid SLI functionality in action, with this chipset featuring an integrated NVIDIA graphics processor which can be paired with a discrete high-end GeForce 9 series board to allow for large power savings while running non-GPU intensive tasks. Does it live up to its potential? We find out, by way of reviewing ASUS' Crosshair II Formula motherboard, the latest in their Republic of Gamers series. NVIDIA nForce 780a chipset - ASUS Crosshair II Formula motherboard review "With Hybrid SLI enabled, any compatible discrete GPUs are disabled almost entirely when their graphics processing power isn't needed, allowing the integrated graphics to handle your normal everyday tasks while sat at the Windows desktop and the like. Fire up an application which makes use of the GPU however, and any discrete GPUs (be they individual parts or in SLI) will be powered up to make use of them as normal for gaming and so on. Thus far, only the GeForce 9800 GTX and GX2 support Hybrid SLI in conjunction with this IGP, but as time goes on it looks like all future high-end NVIDIA motherboard chipsets will feature integrated graphics to make use of this feature with any future discrete GPUs from the company. We'll be taking a look at the performance on both the IGP in isolation and Hybrid SLI later on in this review, so keep your eyes peeled. It'll be interesting to see how this feature is received by the community - Will they welcome the power saving and lower noise l evels on offer with both arms, or will worries about performance or driver issues cause them to disable it and take the extra power usage penalty? Only time will tell, but we'd love to hear your initial thoughts on how much you feel Hybrid SLI will be of use to you." http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=566&Itemid=27 As always, a news post on your site would be hugely appreciated, and we guarantee to reciprocate by posting any news items received from yourselves.
