  1. GlacialTech Igloo 5750 Silent CPU Cooler Today we take a look at the Igloo 5750 Silent from GlacialTech. With words like igloo and silent in the name you think cool and quiet and that is what we figure out. The PWM version that we are reviewing has a dual adjustable speed fan setup which brings the temperature down according to your needs. The speed ranges from 800~2500RPM, with a maximum volume throughput of 51.3CFM! Read on to see if this budget minded CPU cooler can live up to its name. Quote: "The GlacialTech Igloo 5750 is a different design from the typical heat-pipe coolers on the market today for a number of reasons. Most obvious is that it is not a tower cooler. One of its other features worth mentioning is that it is quiet for an active cooler; at 15 dBA you would have a hard time hearing this fan inside any case. If you are looking for silence from your PC this should be on your list of CPU coolers to purchase..." 2. Title: Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 & QuickCam Pro for Notebooks ( -at -) HardwareLogic Quote: "Webcams are continually evolving. Those of you that claim to be 'old-school' remember well the blurry and pixelated pictures that used to stream from one webcam to another. My how times have changed. With ISPs stepping up to the plate with increased bandwidth, both upload and download, users need not make so many concessions with video quality (we're talking to you, YouTube!). Computer enthusiasts are calling out for clear and crisp video recordings for their newly built rigs, and companies like Logitech are trying to answer that call." Title: Gigabyte AirCruiser GN-WI06N-RH ( -at -) Phoronix Direct Link: http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12303 Summary: "Last month we had looked at the Gigabyte AirCruiser N300 GN-WI30N-RH 802.11n WiFi adapter. The wireless adapter uses the Ralink RT2860 chipset, which doesn't have a Linux driver in the kernel, but we were able to easily get this 802.11n wireless adapter working with Ubuntu when using ndiswrapper and the Windows driver. Today we have our hands on the Gigabyte AirCruiser N300 Dual GN-WI06N-RH, which is a PCI Express Mini-Card with dual-band 802.11a/b/gn support. How well does this Atheros-based WiFi card work on Linux? We'll tell you in this review." Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments you may
  4. Hello, OCZ Quad 2Gb Memory Kit Review - 8Gb of Platinum Goodness With the introduction of Vista, 2 GB of memory suddenly seems insufficient. Many people have made the jump to 4 GB lately, but on a 32Bit operating system, more is definitely overkill. Today we happen to have a 64 bit operating system installed on our test system, so there's no stopping us from fully loading our P35 motherboard with... 8 GB of memory. And we even managed to overclock it! http://www.madshrimps.be/gotoartik.php?articID=683 __________________ Thank you in advance for posting,
  5. Hi all, We have just published our *Mod of the Month competition for April 2008*, where five of the best mods from our forum battle it out for some great prizes! If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2008/04/30/motm-apr-08/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/04/motm-apr-08/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"We're going to start this month's competition off with a mod that's actually just finished its build process -- which goes a little against the standard Mod of the Month policy. However, I've been following the work of our crazy German friend FrooP since his mod, Unit: 4, first appeared on our forum over six months ago -- and since this is all about the closing of old projects, I'm glad to finally get to add it! At the time, Froop had already completed quite a bit of his project, which is based on a building from our favourite nuclear-powered game, //S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Nonetheless, it seems as if there were, well, about six more months of work left to do on it! The completed project is really a site to behold -- extremely reminiscent of the style of our beloved friend CrimsonSky, FrooP has reconstructed an entire area from the video game, leaving you wondering whether you're looking at a model or a computer."/ * *Cheers guys! Nyko Cord-Free Wireless Adapter for Wii Nunchuk Review If you feel the same way as me and you get frustrated with the cord that connects the Wii Remote with the Nunchuk attachment, then you might want to take a look at the Nyko Cord-Free Wireless Adapter for Wii Nunchuk. 9. Hi all, We have just published an interview with *David Kirk, Nvidia's Chief Scientist*. During the interview we discuss the changing roles of CPUs and GPUs, GPU Computing, Larrabee and what he thinks about Intel's and AMD's futures. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/04/30/david-kirk-interview/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/04/david-kirk-interview/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */What would happen if multi-core processors increase core counts further though, does David believe that this will give consumers enough power to deliver what most of them need and, as a result of that, would it erode away at Nvidia's consumer installed base? "No, that's ridiculous -- it would be at least a thousand times too slow [for graphics]," he said. "Adding four more cores, for example, is not going anywhere near close to what is required." But what about Larrabee -- do you think Intel will get close to Nvidia with that? "There are no numbers [for Larrabee] yet -- there's only slideware. The way that slideware works is that everything is perfect." What if Nvidia has underestimated Intel though and they build an efficient microarchitecture that scales really well in graphics? "I'm not going to get into all of the details especially for Larrabee, but they're missing some pretty important pieces about how a GPU works. Without being too negative, we see Larrabee as the GPU that a CPU designer would build, not the GPU you'd build if you were a GPU designer."/ * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net
  10. Hi all, We have just published a review of NZXT's latest mid-tower chassis. Title: NZXT Tempest Mid-Tower ( -at -) Techgage Link: http://techgage.com/article/nzxt_tempest_mid-tower/ Quote: Finding a quality mid-tower for under $100 doesn't happen to often, but NZXT looks to hit the mark with their Tempest. It offers plenty of space (and even support for eATX), four large pre-mounted fans, an intuitive internal design and sharp looks, making it a wise choice for any new build.
  11. Everything USB is pleased to announce our Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 Review If you're going to go wireless with peripherals, why not do it all the way, and ditch the wire on your keyboard? Microsoft would certainly like you to do so: they've got a whole line of paired wireless keyboard and mouse products, including their new flagship product, the Wireless Laser Desktop 7000, designed to reduce wire clutter and - particularly in the case of the Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 - increase productivity through all kinds of built in functions. How well does the ensemble work, and are the features worth the money? Today, we'll be finding out. http://www.everythingusb.com/microsoft-wireless-laser-desktop-7000-14632.html Verdict: Although the reliance on a non-rechargeable alkaline battery to power the keyboard is a little troubling, and the keyboard's floating keys can be difficult to use, overall the keyboard and mouse that make up the Wireless Laser Desktop 7000 are pleasant to look at, easy to program, and best of all, easy to use. For these reasons, and despite its minor flaws, I'm happy to give it my full recommendation. Pros: + Function keys quickly move from luxuries to necessities + Mouse and keyboard are comfortable and easy to use + Attractive styling + Works equally well in XP and Vista Cons: - Keyboard is not rechargeable - Floating buttons can be difficult to use Regards, Ian Chiu Managing Editor, Everything USB http://www.everythingusb.com/
  12. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Casing & Cooling) - Nexus XiR-2300 Aluminum Ed. CPU Cooler QUOTE: "The founding fathers of Nexus had a dream, a dream that one-day end users could use powerful computers without the need for earplugs. While it may seem as a play on words and a couple of phrases from famous speeches, the statement holds true, Nexus is all about quiet computing. Today we will be looking at the Nexus XiR-2300 Aluminum Edition CPU Cooler. This product was designed by Nexus to keep a CPU cool while reducing the audible fan noise that is typical in stock fans. As you can imagine, if this XiR-2300 has the Aluminum label then there is a copper version as well. We will be looking at the XiR-3500 Copper Edition later this week." 13. Visiontek Radeon HD 3870 X2 Overclocked Edition review http://www.techspot.com/review/94-visiontek-radeon-3870-x2/ Today we are reviewing no ordinary Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card, as we take a look at the Visiontek Radeon HD 3870 X2 Overclocked Edition. This is quite possibly the most impressive 3870 X2 graphics card available today, with the only possible exception being the ASUS version we reviewed a few months back. Like the ASUS, this Visiontek card aims at offering a greatly improved cooling solution, quad DVI-outputs, along with some factory overclocking to top it all off.

This headset is geared towards gamers, but in my mind, is perfect for anyone looking for a quality headset with a quality microphone, especially those who use voice chat on the PC. Most of the headsets that I have had have been rather uncomfortable for extended periods of time, but the Razer Piranha is different; it provides comfort for extended periods of use. If you're in the market for a new headset the Piranha is definitely something you should consider."
  16. Hello News Partner: Benchmark Reviews has released a new article which your readers might enjoy. We would be grateful if you would please share it with them. TITLE: Samsung SyncMaster 245BW Widescreen LCD Monitor ( -at -) Benchmark Reviews DESCRIPTION: We have spent a lot of time at Benchmark Reviews talking about video cards recently - and with good reason. The discrete graphics segment of the market is currently afire with many outstanding price-to-performance options. When we looked at the offerings from the two biggest players, the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX and ATI/AMD HD 3870, we saw that game performance even when scaled to high resolution was simply outstanding. This begs the question; why with such low-cost entrance into owning cards capable of "high-rez" gaming, most users are still running a display of 19" or less?Monitors are arguably the most important component for users, getting more usage than any other component of a PC. The only reasonable answer would have to be cost, as until recently displays above the 19" mark have been prohibitively expensive. That's where the SAMSUNG SyncMaster 245BW enters the scene as very attractively priced 24" widescreen LCD monitor. 17. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on the TekNmotion Pulsar SX PC Headphones Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "The Pulsar was louder, but it did have the advantage of being powered via USB. When it comes to quality of sound, the Pulsar headphones were lacking compared to the competitors. I tested the Pulsar's mobile ability and I must say I wasn't very impressed; the inline controller and the battery pack were always in the way while listening to my MP3 player. I don't foresee anyone using the battery pack in the future. While it was a good idea in theory, TekNmotion either needs to remove the battery pack or make it more compact in its next attempt." 21. The EVGA 8800GT 1GB AKIMBO is an interesting card in many respects. The performance is not up to the 9800GTX but it is close being that the two cards share the same video chip just with 16 SPs disabled. The main selling point of this card is the AKIMBO cooling solution as it kept the card noticeably cooler during operation, about 15-20C cooler according to NVIDIA’s temperature monitoring software. The updated packages have been patched to correct this issue. _______________________________________________________________________ References: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1686 http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2008-004.html _______________________________________________________________________ Updated Packages: Mandriva Linux 2008.0: ed3a050e02cd4931111999597ea5a82e 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-aalib-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 1bea970aa242035b23f8c9d4fbe679f8 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-caca-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 88f07a2b3941132b50eb0f83806fb2fe 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-dv-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm ff51915eb83580f67344664b4869b85c 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-esound-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm c65b3ecb7496c4be16da27364844a5b4 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-flac-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 90bf9f4401b964d37c0042ef43b5cb3e 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 11d9705da24e698e71d8ec35975fda2f 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-raw1394-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 2fba4b37380d4084d2a600237ae69f53 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-speex-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm 7b773b42b2c15dc2358c1094bdb17e31 2008.0/i586/gstreamer0.10-wavpack-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.i586.rpm be855c4fc17a6ef63cfb2546ebfb7eeb 2008.0/SRPMS/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.src.rpm Mandriva Linux 2008.0/X86_64: 9b5bea636605af0749f8c5ac238b6ccd 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-aalib-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm 86698a7ca2b3f6de3ad172ad4e52610b 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-caca-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm 65638c588ff190f30839ef17cfc1775e 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-dv-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm f6541018cc3f6aebcde8096e96479fcb 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-esound-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm ad23357c877a05e689c9a471db362bd3 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-flac-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm 1ba30996ecce44c97c0ee23490989c6f 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm b26efd203758a66b86f142cefaeac8fb 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-raw1394-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm 9aa9f0e120b190451991d0aeef343c34 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-speex-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm c6c4ed2f31fff82d17a7c3530335308f 2008.0/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-wavpack-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.x86_64.rpm be855c4fc17a6ef63cfb2546ebfb7eeb 2008.0/SRPMS/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.6-3.1mdv2008.0.src.rpm Mandriva Linux 2008.1: b7494735de0d468aa49f0d4545e17cc4 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-aalib-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 6e84dde5c04f47fdb640e1976f4ded73 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-caca-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 36b5d2542e8def9f710362a5a25bbf0b 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-dv-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 6e1362779e4272436197d5bfc05bbbca 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-esound-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 6c152867628f39c4b0e97168efb65faa 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-flac-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 60c3422081cbc994f958f13a11f8e7d6 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm d28097a2efb5ed2be23c103dcadfd05d 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-raw1394-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 32a01bbbda46f269f70404ad65cb9db1 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-speex-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm 5ed0d6100ac0bf3aabaab7a3f48c82f9 2008.1/i586/gstreamer0.10-wavpack-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm df7434ce633a1e6e0f19d4027aa78a72 2008.1/SRPMS/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.src.rpm Mandriva Linux 2008.1/X86_64: 9ba07cb4a4f098260a430bddcd8fa6c8 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-aalib-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 2f1f5879cd92531baf08622d229bdf2d 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-caca-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 5e86a24131c0b2074059b64e08f565df 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-dv-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm e3a252410b2d385907eb1075894eefe9 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-esound-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm ec85d1c5e4fc3d5675648cfc24481566 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-flac-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 06810f43df4aa1bbbc8884179b1e10aa 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 315bc267569bd6202f954faf634744c6 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-raw1394-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 0385bde5219b113cd40675aaa0d901b5 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-speex-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm 69b0130dacaee4796a72e2ab12930349 2008.1/x86_64/gstreamer0.10-wavpack-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.x86_64.rpm df7434ce633a1e6e0f19d4027aa78a72 2008.1/SRPMS/gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.7-3.1mdv2008.1.src.rpm _______________________________________________________________________ To upgrade automatically use MandrivaUpdate or urpmi.
