  1. Banana Bee announces Denoise 1.0 for Mac OS X - Published on 04/29/08 Banana Bee is delighted to announce Denoise 1.0, their easy-to-use, noise and grain suppression utility for Mac OS X. Designed from the ground up for OS X, Denoise removes noise and grain from photographs. It improves photos taken under low light conditions, mobile phone cameras, as well as scanned images. Denoise uses a sophisticated algorithm to suppress image noise by carefully smoothing flat areas while preserving image details. Munich, Germany - Banana Bee is delighted to announce Denoise 1.0, their easy-to-use, noise and grain suppression utility for Mac OS X. Designed from the ground up for OS X, Denoise removes noise and grain from photographs. Simply drag an image from the Finder or iPhoto and Denoise will dutifully do its magic, and save the result. Image noise is a random fluctuation of pixel values in an image. Image noise can originate in film grain, or in electronic noise in the scanner or digital camera sensor and circuitry. In low light, or at high ISO speed settings, digital cameras tend to produce images with more apparent image noise. Noise cannot be removed without the loss of some image detail. Nevertheless, noise-reduction algorithms have been developed that can distinguish between the image detail and unwanted noise, and alter an image in noisy areas. Denoise is based on one such algorithm. Denoise improves photos taken under low light conditions, mobile phone cameras, as well as scanned images. It uses a sophisticated algorithm to suppress image noise by carefully smoothing flat areas while preserving image details. Version 1.0 is Banana Bee's first release, with a focus on ease of use. Minimum Requirements: * Mac OS X Version 10.5 Leopard * Universal Binary for PowerPC and Intel * 2 MB Hard Drive space Pricing and Availability: Denoise 1.0 is available as a single-user license for only 20.00 Euro ($31.00 USD), and available as a full-featured demo. There is also a Family license available. 5. A Complete Guide to FileMaker Web Publishing with FMStudio - Published on 04/29/08 FMWebschool has released a new practical guide to creating FileMaker driven websites with FMStudio. This new 300 page book guides you step-by-step through the process of creating websites powered by FileMaker Pro - without writing a single line of code. This book is a tremendous guide and resource for any web developer. Richmond, VA - FMWebschool, Inc., Announces their new book dedicated to FileMaker web publishing, "A Complete Guide to FileMaker Web Publishing with FMStudio". They will most likely say "No". Most FileMaker developers when asked have no idea how to create a FileMaker website. They would like to, but they fear the complexities and the time investments. The thought of learning another programming language is about as appealing as having a root canal. We have created another path that doesn't involve a trip to the dentist. Not being a natural programmer myself, I completely understand the struggle of learning new languages, especially those that are acronyms. Now the need to create dynamic websites is paramount. Simply put, information needs to be available 24/7 worldwide. Not just static data, but live, dynamic data that reflects changes instantly. You can accomplish this without the pain of learning a new language, here's how. We have created a tool that automatically writes the FileMaker compatible PHP code for you. We have also written a comprehensive 300+ page book that guides you through the complete process of bringing your FileMaker database to the web - without writing a single line of code. It sounds too good to be true, I know. Every two months we host a live webinar in front of our peers where we use FMStudio to build powerful FileMaker driven websites in less than 1 hour. I remind you, this is in front of a live audience of three to four hundred FileMaker developers. How do you get started? FMStudio enables you to connect Dreamweaver to FileMaker. Adobe Dreamweaver is one of the most popular cross platform web editors available. FMStudio enables you to see your FileMaker data, fields, layouts, tables, value lists, scripts and portals inside of Dreamweaver. Guess what, you can also drag and drop these fields right into the Dreamweaver work area and use our powerful wizards to build forms and tables populated with FileMaker data. We have written our new book to make the learning curve even faster. The complete guide is divided into three sections. The first section is a tutorial that guides you step-by-step towards creating a FileMaker web solution. The second section discusses expandable modules that help facilitate complex tasks such as instantly creating complex reports and complex emailing. The third section is a discussion of all the FMStudio features and how to implement them. This book is a tremendous guide and resource for any web developer. There is still a major problem however. There are not nearly enough competent FileMaker web developers to meet the demand. Over the past 9 years we have had the pleasure of creating and hosting FileMaker websites for clients around the world, but we cannot begin to put a dent in the demand. This long awaited book has something for everyone. Beginners will be able to follow along with the simple tutorials to create their first website. Intermediate and professional developers will be able to create powerful FileMaker websites with many complex features. Guess what, there are thousands of businesses, schools, and individuals that need access to dynamic data. FileMaker is the perfect solution. Get involved early, and benefit from the need for growing FileMaker web developers. Our new book and FMStudio will enable you to begin creating FileMaker websites immediately! Get started today. 6. PC Perspective has posted a major update to the hardware leaderboard today that reconfigures all four system build categories from Dream to Budget. There are now two AMD systems in the lineup, Mid-Range and Budget, that use the Phenom X4 and X3 processors respectively. NVIDIA is still ruling the GPU world though with all four systems recommending GeForce cards of some kind. URL: http://www.pcper.com/hwlb.php Quote: "The High End system also saw a price increase going from $1245 to $1399 - a modest increase I think considering the changes I implemented. First we moved to a new Yorkfield, 45nm Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 processor but kept the 780i SLI chipset motherboard. I also upgraded graphics card in this system as well with the new 9800 GTX card - a great single-GPU board that offers 8800 Ultra-like performance at a lower price." Thanks for a post! CF: Yeah, we do that kind of stuff all the time. We always joke about these companies which have these design documents full of great ideas, and there are loads of things that sound really great on paper. They sound like The Winner, but then you go to test it and it's like -- oh my God, nobody knows what the hell they're doing, what's going on, it's horrible. In fact, right now there are some things on these demo machines we're testing and we'll be getting feedback on and cutting and whatever. It's been interesting to watch some of these things with people who are good gamers too. Watching people who game at a higher level and seeing how they interact with things and what they do with it is always interesting."/ * *Cheers guys! Tim Smalley www.bit-tech.net

More details about this issue may be found in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-1382 Additional information can be found in the libpng source, or in this file on the libpng FTP site: ftp://ftp.simplesystems.org/pub/libpng/png/src/libpng-1.2.27-README.txt Here are the details from the Slackware 12.0 ChangeLog: +--------------------------+ patches/packages/libpng-1.2.27-i486-1_slack12.0.tgz: Upgraded to libpng-1.2.27. This fixes various bugs, the most important of which have to do with the handling of unknown chunks containing zero-length data. Processing a PNG image that contains these could cause the application using libpng to crash (possibly resulting in a denial of service), could potentially expose the contents of uninitialized memory, or could cause the execution of arbitrary code as the user running libpng (though it would probably be quite difficult to cause the execution of attacker-chosen code). We recommend upgrading the package as soon as possible. 18. Hi everyone! Back in January, we took a look at Sapphire's limited edition Radeon HD 3870 Atomic, which made use of a single slot vapour chamber cooler coupled with some decent overclocks. Today, the focus of our attentions is on the company's new Radeon HD 3870 Toxic, which uses the same cooler together with more modest factory overclocks to enable Sapphire to mass produce the board - Can it impress us in the same way? Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 Toxic review "In our introduction, we mentioned that the factory overclocks seen with this board have been cut compared to those previously used on the Radeon HD 3870 Atomic - Thus, while that board featured an 825MHz core clock, this board utilises an 800MHz core clock (still 25MHz higher than a reference board), with memory set to 1152MHz against 1200MHz on the Atomic and 1125MHz for a reference board. The real key feature of the Radeon HD 3870 Toxic is its Vapor-X vapour chamber cooler. The advantages of this cooler are obvious in its size compared to the behemoth which sits atop a reference Radeon HD 3870 graphics board, with the Toxic's effort occupying just a single slot while actually cooling the graphics core more effectively and less noisily, which is a definite win in my book." http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=564&Itemid=27 As always, a news post on your site would be hugely appreciated, and we guarantee to reciprocate by posting any news items received by yourselves. 22. RivaTuner v2.09 Released Rivatuner has been updated towards version 2.09 In this release we have included a huge number of new stuff to keep you busy, obviously GeForce 9x00 support has been added as well as ForceWare 175.xx and Catalyst 8.4 support. RivaTuner is a complete powerful tweaking environment, providing you everything you may need to tune NVIDIA GPU based display adapters. The widest driver-level Direct3D / OpenGL and system tuning options, flexible profiling system allowing to make custom settings on per-application basis, both driver-level and low-level hardware access modes, unique diagnostic and real-time hardware monitoring features and exclusive power user oriented tools like built-in registry editor and patch script engine make RivaTuner's feature set absolutely unmatched. Guru3D.com is Rivatuner's official homepage, click here <http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner&menu=8> to find version / build / changes and FAQ information. For novice users, we have a guide to help you through Rivatuner and setup fan speeds and overclocks on your graphics card. This guide will hopefully help you understand how to use the features that Rivatuner provides. Download URL- http://downloads.guru3d.com/RivaTuner-v2.09-download-163.html Homepage - http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner <http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner> FAQ - http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatunerfaq Version 2.09: Minor bugfixes: The server no longer erroneously swaps RGB components and no longer causes On-Screen Display to be rendered in unexpected color under Direct3D10 when non-default OSD color is being used. What's new: Added ForceWare 175.xx drivers family support. Updated databases for Detonator and ForceWare drivers. Added databases for ForceWare 174.40, 174.51, 174.53, 174.60, 174.70, 174.74, 174.82, 174.85, 174.88, 174.93 and 175.12. Added Catalyst 8.4 drivers detection. Please take a note that ATI continues "old good" tradition of using the same build version of different driver versions, so both Catalyst 8.3 and 8.4 will be detected as Catalyst 8.3 or newer. Updated Catalyst 8.4 certified SoftR9x00 patch script (for Windows 2000/XP drivers only). Updated PCI DeviceID database for AMD graphics processors. Added PCI DeviceIDs for RADEON X1650 AGP and RADEON 3850 X2. Update driver files database for 64-bit NVIDIA ForceWare drivers. Unlocked previously available experimental AMD RV620 graphics processors family support. Added experimental NVIDIA G96 graphics processors family support. Added experimental NVIDIA G100 (aka GT200) graphics processors family support. Added experimental driver-level multi-GPU fan control support for Quad-SLI systems. Thanks to Jacob Freeman ( -at -) EVGA for testing driver-level fan control with2x NVIDIA 9800GX2 system. Now RivaTuner is able to detect driver version and display driver files info for drivers using multiple driver files and active non-primary driver file. Added experimental clock frequency stress-testing for NVAPI overclocking interfaces. Please take a note that NVAPI's own stress testing is not ideal yet and it is not available for some GPU families (e.g. G80) or may work improperly for others. Due to this reason NVAPI clock frequency stress-testing feature is disabled by default, however power users may enable it using NVAPIClockTest registry entry. Added set of technologies aimed to improve RivaTuner startup and usage safety in conjunction with other hardware monitoring and diagnostics related tools: Added low-level PCI controller access synchronization protocol. The protocol serves for preventing possible PCI controller access collisions when multiple tools are being started and scanning PCI buses simultaneously (e.g. detecting supported hardware during OS startup). Please take a note that to take full effect the protocol must be supported by other tools used simultaneously with RivaTuner, so please ensure that you're using this version of RivaTuner with the latest versions of other monitoring or diagnostics related software products (e.g. Everest). Previously used low-level I2C synchronization protocol is now also applied to driver-level thermal monitoring function calls to prevent possible conflicts between low-level I2C transactions and internal driver-level I2C transactions. Please take a note that to take full effect the protocol must be supported by other tools used simultaneously with RivaTuner, so please ensure that you're using this version of RivaTuner with the latest versions of other monitoring or diagnostics related software products (e.g. Everest). Added hardware scanning synchronization protocol, aimed to optimize startup process and reduce startup time when multiple tools are intensively scanning hardware. Now startup daemon routine displays warning message in case of driver load failure (e.g. when the driver is blocked by antivirus tool). Startup daemon self-deinstallation technology is disabled by default now. The daemon no longer uninstalls itself from Windows startup when it fails to apply any startup settings (e.g. due to driver load blocked by antivirus tool). If needed, the technology can be re-enabled by setting DontUninstallStartupDaemon registry entry to 0. Updated bundled RivaTunerStatisticsServer v2.6.0 utility: Now OSD rendering routines are compatible with WPF based applications. Now the server's manifest file specifies full administrative privileges requirement. If you're using Windows Vista with UAC enabled, it is recommended to create scheduled task launching the server simultaneously with RivaTuner to minimize amount of displayed UAC evaluation dialogs. Changed sever's own OSD rendering behavior, now the server doesn't display 3D API usage information in the OSD when framerate display is not requested by a client application. Updated pseudo-3D applications list. Updated bundled D3DOverrider v1.6.0 utility: Now the D3DOverrider's manifest file specifies full administrative privileges requirement. If you're using Windows Vista with UAC enabled, it is recommended to create scheduled task launching the utility simultaneously with RivaTuner to minimize amount of displayed UAC evaluation dialogs. Improved launcher module: Added 'Show item in tray menu' option to regular launch item editor. By disabling this option you may prevent some regular launch items from being displayed in RivaTuner's tray menu. This option is helpful if you're intensively use scheduled tasks and define many helper launch items, required only for scheduled tasks. Now you may select 'All files' as file type when browsing for application associated with a launch item and this way start and non-executable file type (e.g. WAV or MIDI) registered in the OS. Please take a note that 'Restore settings after terminating application' option will not affect non-executable file types. Now RivaTuner stores application specific event markers in the event history panel of hardware monitoring window, allowing you to analyze all item launch events and reasons (e.g. item launch due to pressed hotkey, due to scheduled task etc). This feature simplifies debugging complex dynamic hardware control algorithms programmed via scheduler module etc. Improved scheduler module: Now you may specify custom scheduled tasks names in the task editor window to improve scheduled tasks list readability. Added 'Wait for application termination' option for 'Launch application' tasks, allowing you to program sequentional tasks execution if needed. Now you may select 'All files' as file type when browsing for application associated with 'Launch application' task and this way start and non-executable file type (e.g. WAV or MIDI) registered in the OS. Please take a note that 'Wait for application termination' option will not affect non-executable file types. Now RivaTuner stores application specific event markers in the event history panel of hardware monitoring window, allowing you to analyze all shceduled tasks events and reasons (e.g. scheduled task launch due to core temperature change from 50°C to 51°C). This feature simplifies debugging complex dynamic hardware control algorithms programmed via scheduler module etc. Improved hardware monitoring module: Now you may use 'Override group name' option in each data source's properties to define custom on-screen display group for it and override default OSD grouping rule if needed, Now RivaTuner is able to detect PLL shutdown and swicth to bus clock on G8x and newer GPU families to provide dynamic memory clock frequency monitoring on upcoming G96 graphics processors family. Now RivaTuner uses BIOS PLL information tables on G9x and newer GPU families to detect reference clock frequencies for core and memory PLLs if unknown GPU is detected. If needed, reference clocks can be redefined via section of RivaTuner.cfg file. Improved SMART.dll hardware monitoring plugin. Now the plugin supports SMART temperature reading for up to 8 hard drives instead of 4 hard drives in the previous version. Improved low-level diagnostic report module: Now RivaTuner displays PLL table contents containing per-PLL reference clock frequencies for G8x and newer display adapter families in 'NVIDIA VGA BIOS information' diagnostic report category. Unlocked undocumented SSAA and combined MSAA / SSAA antialiasing modes for G8x and newer display adapters. Now you may change external I2C fan controller detection retry counter using ExternalFanControllerDetectRetry registry entry or completely disable external I2C fan controller detection by setting this registry to 0. Minor UI changes and improvements. --

  24. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review on Futuremark 3DMark Vantage Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "Futuremark has done it again. The company has effectively come out with a benchmark that makes some of the latest hardware feel oh so inadequate. The upside to this is that it is upgrade time, and this is just another reason to do so, if for nothing more than bragging rights. This time, I think Futuremark has come up with a better mousetrap, to coin a phrase. The preset feature allows all levels of players (enthusiasts, benchmarking gods) to step up and take a swing for the fences to see how well their systems perform." 25. Hello Technology News Community, I4U NEWS reviews the Gateway P172X FX 17-inch Gaming Notebook Review Quote from the review: "Today we are looking at the Gateway P172X FX gaming notebook. This machine retails for $1,999 and gets graphics in the form of NVIDIA 8800M GTS. The entire machine is very heavy, not something you will want to carry in a backpack all day for sure. However, if what you are after is a gaming machine that is portable and can be taken to and from the LAN party much easier than a full desktop the Gateway P172X FX is a fantastic option. The price for the Gateway P172X FX is $1,999."
