  2. TechwareLabs has published a review of the SimpleTech 250GB Signature Mini Portable Drive. Here's a clip from the review: Quote: While we have reservations about any drive named after a fruit, Jason Dumbaugh takes a look at the SimpleTech 2.5 inch Signature Mini Portable drive weighing in at 250GB. Nicknamed the "Kiwi" this little storage monster comes loaded with some very useful software that covers backup of your PC to the drive as well as to an online source. We test this drive to show you if its a speed demon, a snail, or somewhere in between. 4. Title: Tagan Black Pearl Case Review ( -at -) HardwareLogic Quote: "Tagan’s latest foray into the computer enclosure market comes in the form of the Black Pearl. No, this isn’t a rerun of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”. Rather, this is a computer enclosure that Tagan is dubbing as the most qualified water cooling ready chassis that an enthusiast can buy. With features galore, the Black Pearl seems ready to take to the high seas in its quest for ultimate chassis domination. Will the Black Pearl succeed, or will it walk the plank? HardwareLogic sets sail to find out! Yaargh!" Link: http://hardwarelogic.com/news/135/ARTICLE/3316/2008-04-21.html
  5. Last week Diamond Multimedia launched one of the first 1 gigabyte, overclocked versions of the ATI Radeon HD 3870 graphics card. Diamond claims that the performance matches against Nvidia's new GeForce 9xxx series, as well against the Radeon HD 3870 X2. We fire up the Dell 30" to test this claim out at 2560x1600 to see just how the larger frame buffer does on a number of games. We then overclock the card and five you our thoughts! Quote: "First and foremost, if you’re playing at extreme resolutions of 2560x1600 a single ATI Radeon HD 3870 is clearly not going to cut it. It is able to provide playable frame rates in some situations but is bested by the Nvidia 8800 GTS in most of those same situations. When it comes to performance compared to a standard 3870 with 512MB, our 1GB version really didn’t show much improvement in our short battery of test, but I believe that the performance is being held back more by the actual GPU than an increase in memory bandwidth and size can help. Our testing at such a high resolution should have given the Diamond 3870 1GB a chance to shine..." 9. Abit AX78 AMD 770/SB600 Motherboard Review We have just published our review of the Abit AX78. This is their budget AM2+ motherboard, which does fully support Phenom processors and Crossfire X. For just around $90, it performs pretty well, and overclocks.. well, read for yourself The major issue with the AX78 is that it uses what is essentially a flawed Southbridge chipset to begin with. The years-old ATI SB600 has always had problems with USB and SATA performance, and AHCI is essentially broken. Once you get past that though, it's a pretty good effort by Universal Abit. 14. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (News) - Gigabyte EP45 Extreme Exclusive Shots! QUOTE: "TweakTown was given the opportunity to be the first publication in the world to see and photograph Gigabyte’s upcoming motherboard targeting extreme overclockers, the EP45 Extreme. This board will be quite different to the rest of Gigabyte’s P45 based motherboard and the board we were shown was the first board off the production line and as such, is a very early sample. The most obvious feature of this motherboard is the humongous heatsink sitting above the first PCI slot. This is based on a similar construction idea to Gigabyte’s passive Silent-Pipe 3 and works the natural convection method and draws hot air out of the case without any noise. In saying that, Gigabyte isn’t really intending for this motherboard to go into a case, as there will be a fairly limited run of these boards. The EP45 Extreme is Gigabyte’s answer to the Foxconn Black Ops board, although with a different chipset and as such is intended for bench use. This is why Gigabyte is planning to supply a LN2 duct for the CPU and a watercooling module for the chipset. The large heatsink can be removed, as it is secured with four screws on the top of the chipset cooler. This is partly done to make it easier to ship and transport the board, but also to allow for the watercooling module to be attached in an easy way." 15. Hi all, We have just published a review of Crossover Games for Mac - if you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link: http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/04/22/crossover_games_for_mac/1* *Picture: http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/04/crossover_games_for_mac/cross13.jpg* *Quote: *Of course, since DirectX is exclusively Windows-based, it's left Mac and Linux users out in the cold for quite some time. Releases lag by months if not years before a Mac port is created, and that's if one is ever even seen. Updates are rare and bugs linger for ages. Sure, there are some great games coded natively for OSX or Linux, but most commercial titles are just not there. Codeweavers sells its software commercially, which is based on very carefully tailored packages of Wine that it calls "Crossover." But rather than become a big company making money off an open project, Codeweavers exists as little more than a professional conduit – the developers are some of the best and brightest of the Wine community for years, and so your money goes 100 percent back into the Wine community. Businesses and individuals that buy the company's /Crossover/ software are actually donating to the Wine project, and in return get support and assistance with getting their needed programs to run. The company has had some great success with Crossover, enough so that it could begin devoting part of its resources to fund solidly game research. Wine as it stands right now has some problems with its ability to handle gaming, particularly in the DirectX API and the .NET 2.0 Framework – you can bet that Microsoft isn't exactly chomping at the bit to help, either. So, with some actual funding in hand, Codeweavers began to work on the project that is now known as Crossover Games – the product we'll be reviewing today. * *Cheers guys! Hiper Media Center HTPC HMC-2K53A-A3 review (Media Center HTPC Slimline barebone) <http://www.guru3d.com/article/mainboard/526/>'>http://www.guru3d.com/article/mainboard/526/> Hiper recently released a new model of their slim-line HTPC barebone chassis, with VFD (display) fully integrated mainboard and PSU. Pretty much you drop a HD, a slice of memory and a processor in this system and you are good to go since the mainboard even has support for multi-channel audio, VGA & HDMI output as it's based on the reputable AMD 690G chipset (mainboard with integrated graphics card). And next to all that, it even comes with a pretty decent remote control, all that for 300 bucks. 21. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review of the ASUS M3N-HT 780a SLi Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "So what do we say about the ASUS M3N-HT? It performs as well as, or sometimes better than, AMD's flagship chipset, the 790FX. The scores were marginally better for the newer 780a chipset. The option for AMD processor users to finally have a great choice of motherboard chipsets and designs is a plus. No longer are you stuck with certain options, like only being able to use Crossfire. Now you can run that NVIDIA SLi rig with your Phenom X4 and kick some serious butt. The ASUS M3N-HT has many upgradable options such as the ability to run triple SLi if you have the cards available, or Dual SLi if you do not want to spend that much on GPUs." 22. Hello Technology News Community, I4U NEWS reviews the new Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for Sony PS3. Quote from the review: "The game is sort of an appetizer to the full Gran Turismo 5 game due out in a year or so and it is well worth the cost of admission. In my testing I used the Logitech Driving Force wheel designed specifically for the game. The force feedback features in the game are surreal. Each car has a different steering feel and handles differently. Go into a corner and you feel when the wheel leaves the road if you get into the grass, slide and you can feel it. Jump off the throttle too fast going into a curve and you can feel the car fighting to spin on you. It’s great." Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Miscellaneous) - Logitech MX Air Cordless Mouse QUOTE: "The more I play with this thing, the more I’m reminded of the Phasers that they used in Star Trek; it’s uncanny. I can almost pretend I’m Patrick Stewart dashing about in a well fitted uniform, barking out orders to my number one in a fine English accent. It feels very natural to hold in the hand, and obviously Logitech have spent a good chunk of money on the ergonomics of this thing alone. It’s not often one has to pick up a mouse and wave it around, and they have certainly made sure that it feels pretty natural to do it."
