Season Two of Sam and Max has been really strong so far with the last episode "Chariots Of the Dogs" being my favourite for witty jokes and razor sharp scripting. 4. Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill edition <http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/522/>'>http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/522/> Since the green hornets from NVIDIA, gives its partners free choice with respect to factory-based pre-overclocking of the G92 '8800 GT 512 SKU the Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT iChill edition Guru3D tests today ships with a significant higher frequency. The card comes with an overclock from reference 600MHz to 700MHz and uses 512MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 1,000MHz (2000 MHz effectively). Next to that, better cooling, better design and a free game bundled, not a bad one either .. all that at a competitive price ? You betcha .. 6. Today we look at XFX 9600GT XXX SLI. SNIP: When NVIDIA released the G80 core in late 2006 the enthusiast world rejoiced. New levels of image quality were in reach with a single card that used to require two or more. The mainstream market anxiously awaited its share of the G80 love only to be disappointed by the lackluster 8600GT/GTS. Fastforward to last year when the world was given the G92 core. Even more peformance was to be had by enthusiasts willing to shell out the $250 or more it would take to enjoy the pleasure of gaming on a 8800GT/GTS 512. And the mainstream market waited. Only this time things would be a little different. This time the mainsteam market would not take a step back but a huge leap forward, in performance that is, not price. Finally, we were given the card that all of us could afford and not be ashamed to put in our forum sig. The 9600GT from NVIDIA was just that card. Offering levels of performance usually enjoyed by the bigger boys at a price we all can swallow placed this card into unknown territory. As if that wasn't enough XFX got their hands on a few and cranked the heck out of the clocks even further. So I present to you the Alpha Dog 9600GT XXX from XFX. What could be better then having one of these cards in your rig? How about having two!? http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1257 A post on your site would be great if you can. Thank you, Scott -----------------------------------------
  7. Rhododendron Software Releases FolioCalc 1.1 for Mac OS X - Published on 04/11/08 Rhododendron Software announces the release of version 1.1 of FolioCalc, an investment portfolio manager and performance tracker for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. FolioCalc automatically receives current share price data from the internet at configurable time intervals for all associated stocks, with all financial quantities dependent on share price automatically up[censored] periodically. Portland, Oregon, USA - Rhododendron Software announces the release of version 1.1 of FolioCalc, an investment portfolio manager and performance tracker for Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Portfolio Management: Three investment types are currently supported: stock investments, interest-bearing accounts, and cash (treated as a zero-return investment). Transaction data can either be manually entered or imported from QIF or CSV files downloaded from several popular online brokers including Ameritrade, Fidelity, and more. FolioCalc can also be used as a virtual trading tool by simply entering fictional transactions. Stock splits are also supported as a transaction type. Stock investment records corresponding to tax lots are automatically generated or closed based on the transaction data using First In First Out (FIFO), the primary tax lot accounting strategy expected by the IRS. Interest-bearing account records are generated with the first transaction and stay open until an associated close transaction is entered. Performance Tracking: FolioCalc automatically receives current share price data from the internet at configurable time intervals for all associated stocks, with all financial quantities dependent on share price automatically up[censored] periodically. Any combination of over 20 financial quantities can be displayed for each investment including cost basis, closed value, and capital gains (needed on tax forms), annual returns, pre and post-tax values, and many more. Many of these financial quantities will also be displayed for the totals of the investments in a non-scrolling totals row always visible at the bottom of the investment table. The Investment list can also be filtered with various queries to display a subset of investments matching the filter criteria and with the totals row reflecting just that subset. For example, filtering on short or long stock investments closed in the previous year will yield a list of stock investments and totals containing the quantities needed to fill out Schedule-D of the US tax forms (although wash sales and other unusual tax situations may require special treatment before filling out the forms). For a more complete feature list and screenshots see the FolioCalc product page of the RhodoSoft website. The 1.1 version adds: * Moderate GUI makeover * Duplicate transaction detection * Schwab CSV import support * E*TRADE CSV import support * Scottrade QIF import fixed * ShareBuilder QIF import support * Import progress indicator * Added many more date range filter presets * Investment type filter now has non-cash option * Investment filter settings now saved to preferences * Can turn off automatic cash transfers in preferences * Descriptive undo and redo menu items * Various usability improvements * Many more minor features and bug fixes Minimum Requirements: * Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard) * PowerPC or Intel processor (universal binary) * Internet access for current share price updates to work. Pricing and Availability: FolioCalc is $19.95 USD, and available as a free download from the RhodoSoft website. It will initially run in trial mode, with all features active except for save. Once purchased, entering the activation key enables the save feature. This is a free update for registered FolioCalc users. 8. Hi all, We have just published news that Lian Li is to release ten new cases before Computex in June - these include the PC-A20, PC-A7110, PC-A7010, PC-C36, PC-C37, X2000, V2020, V1010 and more. If you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/04/11/lian_li_to_launch_ten_cases_before_computex/1 *Quote: */"Of the cases we saw during our visit to the company's offices in Keelung City in the North East of Taiwan, there were a few that really caught our eyes. First of all, the company's new home theatre cases---the PC-C36 and PC-C37---look promising with some interesting new ideas. One complaint that Lian Li said it had from its previous HTPC cases was the support bar across the middle -- it was fixed in place. With these two new designs, the bar is removable, which will definitely make the installation process a lot easier. There are other enhancements too -- both feature a small PCB at the front that apparently allows you to boot into a Linux distro to search for (and presumably playback) media files." /* *Cheers guys! 11. Hi all, We have just published a review of *AMD's Phenom X4 9850, 9750 and 9550 processors* - if you could post a link on your site that would be very much appreciated. *Link:* http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/04/11/amd_phenom_x4_9850_9750_and_9550_b3_cpus/1 *Picture:* http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/04/amd_phenom_x4_9850_9750_and_9550_b3_cpus/fp_img.jpg *Quote: */"Those into massive multi-tasking or highly threaded applications will benefit the most from a quad-core processor, but even with AMD's massive steps forwards, we still feel the Q6600 is the slightly better purchase, regardless of the small £10 price difference. Both can be overclocked, but the Phenom X4s are much hotter and less tolerant to heat in comparison. At just over 60?C our Phenom at 2.8GHz was stable, but at just under 70?C it locked up. If you can keep it cool then it should really work for you, however even with an expensive, large and very capable ZeroTherm cooler we still couldn't keep it cool at a quite reasonable 1.45V. Admittedly 65nm Core 2 Quads are hot runners at high voltage too, but they seem to be more tolerant of higher temperatures and the Intel 65nm process seems to leak less current. What AMD is missing is a K10 dual core -- its mainstream 65nm parts //are being revamped, but slowly, and they are still based on the old K8 core so Intel is leaving them far, far behind. I don't understand it -- why push a new process technology onto the most complex parts first? Why aren't we seeing new, lower wattage, high clocked dual-core processors? Regardless of that, AMD Enthusiasts should have some fun with the Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition and it's good to see AMD "back in the game." Hopefully with some elaborate watercooling or phase change setups (pictures in the forums, please!) we should see some pretty awesome overclocking endeavours, and what's more, for around £150 it's something most of you can afford to enjoy."/ * *Cheers guys! 13. Hello Webmasters and News Posters, NEW CONTENT (Motherboards) - AMD 790FX Vs NVIDIA 780a Chipsets QUOTE: "Now that AMD has a new CPU, what about the platform itself? Well, thanks to the acquisition of ATI graphics, who has managed to make some rather interesting chipsets in their short span into the motherboard chipset market, AMD now has the ability to produce its own chipsets for its CPUs at mass, rather than relying on third party chipset manufacturers. AMD already has three new chipset families with multiple platforms under each of the families in its 7 series chipsets. NVIDIA is not one to be outdone though; while focusing on the Intel platform, AMD has finally started to produce AMD chipsets again, and while the 680a was supposed to be the big momma for NVIDIA’s AMD line-up, it simply didn’t sell due to AMD’s lacklustre CPU architecture when compared to the Core 2 series.Today we have the top chipsets from both AMD and NVIDIA, that being the AMD 790FX and the NVIDIA 780a. We will pit these two head-to-head; who has the best chipset? Which one is loaded with more features? We will soon find out." 14. Hello Again, Futurelooks checks out one of the hottest Wii titles of the year... Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii Reviewed There is not a doubt in my mind that Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the single best game available on the Nintendo Wii today. That’s a pretty big statement considering that we have other great games like Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, and the statement is made even more ironic when you consider that Brawl doesn’t even make use of the Wii’s unique control scheme. And I will be forever thankful for that, because tacked-on Wii controls would have bumped Super Smash Bros. Brawl down a notch or three. 16. Hello Technology News Community, I4U NEWS reviews the Panasonic Lumix L10 DSLR Camera. Quote from the review: "Today we are checking out the Panasonic Lumix L10 DSLR camera. This camera is aimed at the beginner DSLR owner and is not what most would consider cheap. Overall the Lumix L10 works very well and is easy to use for the beginner the camera is aimed at. T he biggest problem with the Lumix L10 is the price. The kit I am reviewing here retails for around $1100. You can get the Nikon D80 for around the same price and in my option it is a much better camera. If the Lumix L10 was a few hundred bucks cheaper it would be a clear winner. As it is I suggest you shop around a bit, it’s not that the Lumix L10 is a bad camera, it’s actually quite good. The price is just too high in my opinion. 17. OK, I've been doing this since the last century, but I really have no idea how to frame this article. It might be a review of a new graphics card. Nvidia just recently introduced its GeForce 9800 GTX, and this is our first look at that card. But we didn't really stop there. We threw together two and then three 9800 GTX cards in order to see how they perform in some incredibly powerful and borderline ridiculous configurations. Then we totally crossed in the line into crazy-land by doubling up on GeForce 9800 GX2 cards and testing the new generation of quad SLI, as well. What's more, we tested against the previous generation of three-way SLI—based on the GeForce 8800 Ultra--and against the competing CrossFire X scheme involving three and four Radeons. Most of you probably care incrementally less about these configurations as the GPU count--and price tag--rises. But boy, do we ever have a hefty amount of info on the latest GPUs compiled in one place, and it's a pretty good snapshot of the current state of things. Keep reading if you're into that stuff. http://techreport.com/articles.x/14524 Thanks, Scott __ Scott Wasson The Tech Report PC Hardware Explored http://techreport.com -- To unsubscribe from: TR-News, just follow this link:
  18. A news post would be great. OCC has published a new review of the OCZ Vendetta 2 Here is a quote from the review: Quote: "For the idle and load stock temperatures, the OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU cooler had around the same temperatures as the other coolers it was compared to, but when the processor was overclocked it's true colors started to shine through. While idling and overclocked, the Vendetta 2 tied the Thermalright Ultra, and was only one degree warmer than the water cooled system. At full load it was the coolest of all the air coolers and just a bit higher than H2O. Those are very good temps, especially considering the cost between the air and water cooling setup. The fan on the OCZ Vendetta 2 is very quiet and has no vibration noise whatsoever. The fact that this cooler can work on different platforms is a plus, and it includes all the necessary hardware to handle said platforms. OCZ also includes a thermal paste to use if you have no other preference or supply, so no extra costs are needed when installing." 22. Dear Media friends, APH Networks has published a new review that your readers might enjoy. A post in your site's news section would be greatly appreciated! * Title: Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 X48 Motherboard ( -at -) APH Networks * Description: The last time we looked at a motherboard was the P5E3-Deluxe/WiFi-AP ( -at -) n X38 motherboard from Asus roughly half a year ago. At that time, the X38 chipset was Intel's latest flagship chipset chosen to officially replace the tried-and-true 975X from last season. Lately, there's lots of news surrounding Intel's next generation flagship chipset -- the Intel X48. What makes this chipset so interesting, is that while it is not very different from X38 (It's really a cream of the crop X38, optimized with minor modifications such as official 1600MHz FSB support) enthusiasts still watched closely with Intel X48 based motherboards simply for its overclocking potential. Today, we'll take a look at Gigabyte's flagship DDR3 board featuring Intel's flagship X48 chipset, the Gigabyte X48T-DQ6. Gigabyte has been gathering tons of attention ranging from hardcore overclockers to the relatively casual everyday enthusiasts lately -- and with their latest flagship board with one of the best chipsets available on the Intel platform, what can Gigabyte's engineering team put together and run it through the factory to our testing platform? The packaging of a high end board, and tons of enthusiast oriented features -- as I gathered together tons of excitement, as well as nothing less than high expectations from the moment I laid my eyes upon this board, we'll see how the Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 steps up against the rest. * Link: http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/gigabyte_x48t_dq6 * Image: http://aphnetworks.com/review/gigabyte_x48t_dq6/006.JPG

Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 www-servers/tomcat < 6.0.16 *>= 5.5.26 >= 6.0.16 Description =========== The following vulnerabilities were reported: * Delian Krustev discovered that the JULI logging component does not properly enforce access restrictions, allowing web application to add or overwrite files (CVE-2007-5342). * When the native APR connector is used, Tomcat does not properly handle an empty request to the SSL port, which allows remote attackers to trigger handling of a duplicate copy of one of the recent requests (CVE-2007-6286). * If the processing or parameters is interrupted, i.e. by an exception, then it is possible for the parameters to be processed as part of later request (CVE-2008-0002). * An absolute path traversal vulnerability exists due to the way that WebDAV write requests are handled (CVE-2007-5461). * Tomcat does not properly handle double quote (") characters or %5C (encoded backslash) sequences in a cookie value, which might cause sensitive information such as session IDs to be leaked to remote attackers and enable session hijacking attacks (CVE-2007-5333). Impact ====== These vulnerabilities can be exploited by: * a malicious web application to add or overwrite files with the permissions of the user running Tomcat. * a remote attacker to conduct session hijacking or disclose sensitive data. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All Tomcat 5.5.x users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=www-servers/tomcat-5.5.26" All Tomcat 6.0.x users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=www-servers/tomcat-6.0.16" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2007-5333 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5333 [ 2 ] CVE-2007-5342 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5342 [ 3 ] CVE-2007-5461 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-5461 [ 4 ] CVE-2007-6286 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-6286 [ 5 ] CVE-2008-0002 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-0002 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200804-10.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us. 25. Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli sat with us to answer some questions on the topic of ray tracing, its future in gaming and how Intel's push into hardware ray tracing might be affecting the way games are made. URL: http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=546 Quote: "And the fact remains that pretty much everyone we talk to outside of Intel is confident that rasterization is going to have at least one more dedicated generation in gaming. That means that if Intel intends to compete in the graphics world in the next 2-3 years that it will have to take on NVIDIA and AMD/ATI on current-model GPU terms - rasterization, DirectX and OpenGL."
