Hello fellow frustrated friends, I too had this problem and after many days of reading different ways to get my USB memory stick working enough to retrieve all of my important work files, purchasing software that "claimed" would help, I have found a simple solution that worked for me! Hold down the "SHIFT" key while inserting the memory stick. You will get a prompt asking you if you want to turn on filters. Click yes and VOILA, you will hear the little ring of the hardware detected. After files are retrieved to a safe place, reboot the system. I simply moved all files from the USB stick to my PC and then discarded the memory stick making sure everything was deleted. I do not know if the stick was repaired to function properly or not, it was not a chance I was willing to take for a second time. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
