So the installer for this game wont run on XP.
I created a Win98 virtual machine, installed it on that, then copied the files to my host XP machine and the game runs smoothly - even Direct3D accelerated at 800x600.
The problem is that after playing for a minute or two, the fps drops to below 10. I can fix it by quickly changing the resolution while in game but it keeps on coming back again. I ran the game under win95 and win98 compatibility mode with the same results.
Googling a bit showed that there was a patch for the game:

The download links are broken and searching for that file name does not find a valid download link.
Any idea if this patch would fix this problem? Or any other things to try?
