I was having the same issue with my WD ext drive. Drove me crazy. Then I took a second look at my USB cord. I was using the wrong one. It was a very thin cable. I found another one, probably the original, which was thicker. Plug it in and it worked. So, make sure you have the correct USB cable. I assume that different ones have different power or something like that. DJ
