Just recently built a system for my daughter,.. Asus P5QPL-AM, 2.8 Wolfdale, 4 Gigs 800MHz RAM,.. Win XP 32.
I thought that the install of the SB Live 5.1 would go flawlessly,.. from a new install,.. after having troubles trying to get my other one to work after upgrading my mb/cpu/ram/vid card in my personal PC.
Initial install went well,.. used the Live Driver Pack,.. and when I went into Sound Mixer and tested all four speakers,.. everything went well. Then,.. after she got into playing some games,.. the sound started to garble up,.. so I got her to exit the game and went back into Sound Mixer and retested,.. this time it was all garble,.. buzzing,.. and hogwash. So I brought up the UniDriverPack again,.. and this time clicked on "Repair",.. after testing,.. in Sound Mixer,.. everything was fine again. After some gaming,... back to buzzing and cutting out. Onboard sound is disabled in BIOS. I have these same problems on my Asus P5Q 3.06 dual core personal PC,.... finally got it to work for me in my login,.. but in my wife's login the sound does the same thing as on my daughters's PC when she brings up her backgammon game.
I know these SB Live 5.1 drivers from 2003 for XP are a pain,.. but why would it install correctly at first,.. test well,.. and then start to drop off ? Any help? Any ideas? I'm up for anything,.. will try everything suggested. Spent nearly a weekend deleting drivers,.. registry entries,.. removing, installing card,.. different ways,.. when I first had this problem with P5Q board. (didn't wipe XP that time,.. just changed out the board/cpu/ram/vid). That's why I'm kinda puzzled at problems with daughters' PC,.. cause it was a fresh build. I did boot it up the first time with the card installed,.. it installed standard drivers,.. then I installed the UniDriverLive pack, and patch. Any ideas?
Thanks
