Thanks for your response. I worked it out before checking back here. As you suggested Myke it was the Wireless Isolation. It must have been turned on by default in the router settings. I unchecked Wireless Isolation and straight away it all worked. Its good now that I can access my files and network printer from my wireless laptop...just a shame i didnt figure it out ages ago.

After a bit more tinkering i managed to get Wild Media Server to connect and transcode successfully. It isnt my first choice, but at least i have it working now.

Hi, I am trying to find a good DLNA media server to use in Windows XP. I am connecting to the media server with my Panasonic SC-BTT755 Blu-Ray Player. I have tried multiple trial versions with little success. So far I have tried. Twonky Media Server - Quick and responsive, works great for Photos and MP3's, Wont play .avi, only mpeg 2. Serviio - Similar to Twonky, wont play .avi. WMP11 - For some reason, i can't select Media Sharing. Nero Media Home - Connects ok, but wont play .avi files, doesnt seem to transcode them either. (maybe i am missing a setting) Mezzmo - Connects fine, had it going...almost. Very choppy transcoding. Tversity - Connected to server, but couldnt play anything. Wild Media Server - Couldnt connect. Most of the files on my PC are in .avi format. It gives me minimal file size and decent quality. To get Twonky to work, i converted files to mpeg, but as a result they are much larger. I want to be able to use the .avi files through DLNA by transcoding them. Does anyone have any suggestions of a simple transcoding DLNA server i can try? I am almost resigned to the fact i may have to convert all my videos to mpeg2.

Search for the Windows 7 Compatibility Centre. Its a microsoft site telling you what will and wont work in windows 7. Also try searching in google for the problem, there might be a solution Microsoft dont know about. Check out the Microsoft Answers Forum

Its annoying, but the only sure way is to format the drive and reinstall the operating system. I tend to do my systems at least once every two years. Installing and uninstalling leaves so much rubbish in your system. Reinstalling the operating system makes a big difference. Plan ahead though, make sure you back up what you need (email, my documents etc).

I have always used Nero for deleting my RW discs. Otherwise, In Windows XP: 1. Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop. 2. In My Computer, right-click the CD recording drive, and then click Open. Windows displays a temporary storage area where files are held before they are copied to the CD. Files or folders that are located in the temporary storage area are listed in the Files Ready to Be Written to the CD box. 3. In the CD Writing Tasks pane, click Erase this CD-RW. The Welcome to the CD Writing Wizard dialog box is displayed. After you click Next, the Erasing the CD dialog box is displayed and the progress bar displays the progress of the process. 4. When the process is finished, you receive a message in the notification area and you can use the CD-RW disc. Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306641

How to convert a Folder into a Drive
MinusZero replied to techsense's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Couldn't you just simply Map folder as a drive? Select the folder and then click Map Network Drive in the tools menu. -
Whats da best recommended firewall or anti-virus for my serv
MinusZero replied to Seducer's topic in Software
I use Outpost Pro Firewall. I can't stand Zone Alarm, it interrupts too much. -
Reinstalling might do it.

It could be several things. 1. If you use the onboard graphics on your new motherboard, it may not support the version DirectX required. 2. The onboard graphics driver may not be available for Windows 7. I had problems with Windows 7 and onboard graphics driver availability. Update the graphics driver if you can or purchase a video card (if you arent using a separate card). 3. If you use a standalone Graphics Card, you may need to update your drivers. You could also try using XP Mode. You arent alone in having problems, search for "compatibility issues with sims 2 on windows 7" in google and you might find some more answers. Hope that helps.

MinusZero started following Lan Wireless Access To Shared Folders Problem
-
Recently i bought a USB wireless adapter for a laptop and am having problems integrating it into my Lan. Overview of LAN Netgear WNR2000 Wireless Router PC-MZ (192.168.1.5) - Wired PC-D (192.168.1.2) - Wired Samsung CLX-318FN Printer (192.168.1.4) - Wired Acer Laptop with TP-Link TL-WN721N USB Wireless Adapter (192.168.1.6) - Wireless Network name: Workgroup Windows XP Recently I updated to a wireless router and am having a problem regarding the wireless laptop. Currently I have 2 computers (PC-MZ and PC-D) and a network printer connected into my router. They all see each other, can ping each other and both PC's can print to the networked printer and share files and directories. Both PC's can also access the router setup 192.168.1.1. I bought a TP-Link USB adapter for the laptop. I connected it to the router using the Quick Setup button on the USB and router. It works fine with the internet. The problem i have is that the wireless laptop won't connect to the lan. If i go to my network places and view the workgroup i can see the other pc's but get a message that they are inaccessible. At first i thought my firewall was blocking it, but I have assigned IP addresses to all connections and opened them up in the firewall, so that isnt the problem. To confuse matters, if i try to ping the other connections, it fails. Further confusion added when i try to access the router (192.168.1.1). I am unable to access it or even ping it. That seems strange given that i am using the internet through the router. Obviously it is connected to it. I am relatively new to getting a wireless computer to work and share folders on a predominately wired network. I just cant understand why i cannot see the shared folders on the other computers. I think there may be something i am missing with the setup, I just dont know what it is. Help would be very appreciated.
