I haven't tried this yet, but it seems you can also use the unused memory as RAM disk: http://schichtleiter.1338.at/?p=254 An upgrade to a 64-bit OS will require a clean install

I just purchased an Acer Aspire One 150L netbook along with an external LG GE20 DVD writer. -

I tried it now on an almost 9-years old Acer notebook (Celeron 700MHz, 512MB ram). Overall, the performance isn't really bad but there are multiple strange issues. For example, I hook up my 3G mobile modem over USB and Windows 7 didn't detect that I plugged something in. I unplugged it and then re-plugged it back and then finally Windows 7 recognize the modem and installed the drivers. Now I tried to connect to the Internet but Windows 7 forgot in the meantime that the modem is plugged in. I was not able to connect to the Internet at all. The same modem is working just fine on my other PC with Windows 7, so it seems that this issue is related to the USB drivers. Other things such as video or audio are also not detected. I assume there are no longer Windows 7 drivers available for such old hardware.

I installed it on my test PC and it is currently the primary OS there. Seems like a pretty solid release after I didn’t run into any issues yet. All needed drivers are included or automatically downloaded from Windows Update.

This minor update to the CompatDB specifications adds support for Windows 7 and Windows 7 (x86_64) You find the updated specifications here: http://www.compatdb.org/specs-1.02.txt

Perhaps a PHP security update broke the compatibility? Have you tried to recompile/reinstall eAccelerator? Any special reason why you use eAccelerator over APC cache? APC cache can be easily installed/upgraded over PECL and run beautiful even under heavily load.

The drive in question is most likely defect and cannot be repaired. There is no way to fix the drive head or anything else in the hard disk.

After this happening only recently it is most likely an issue with the fan/heatsink. I would bring the laptop to the next service center. -
Net send is no longer supported in Windows Vista. Here is a free alternative: http://www.fomine.com/net-send-gui.html

No, but you need to select the option to leave a copy of the emails on the server. To doing this in Thunderbird: Tools => Account Settings => Server Settings => Check "Leave messages on server"
-
Unfortunatly, it is not possible to re-import your emails back to Hotmail. However, you can move your emails to Thunderbird. Evolution and Thunderbird are using the same data format (mbox) for emails. You find a migration guide here: http://www.linux.com/articles/113798
