Excel and PowerPoint have a macro security framework that controls the execution of macros and prevents macros from running automatically. Under this framework, any time a user opens a document the document is scanned for the presence of macros. If a document contains macros, the user is notified and asked if he wants to run the macros or the macros are disabled entirely, depending on the security setting. A flaw exists in the way macros are detected that can allow a malicious user to bypass macro checking. A malicious attacker could attempt to exploit this vulnerability by crafting a specially formed Excel or PowerPoint document with macro code that would run automatically when the user opened it. The attacker could carry out this attack by hosting the malicious file on a web site, a file share, or by sending it through email. Read more

Thanks Mark for this one: eTesting Labs Inc has found Windows XP to be overall the fastest version of the Windows operating system ever created for a wide-range of desktop computing tasks. On average, Windows XP-based computers: Run approximately 54% faster than Windows Me-based computers. Outperform Windows 98 SE-based computers by 46% on leading commercial benchmarks, and by 27% at startup. Perform equivalent to the record-setting speed of Windows 2000 Professional, even with the addition of extensive new productivity features. Read more

Neoseeker has posted a review on the new socket 370/A copper HSF from Speeze Games and multi-tasking can really turn up the heat on your CPU. If you suffer from a smoking hot core you might what to try Speeze´s new cooling solution. Speeze´s new product 5E055B1H3R, named the "Copper Rock", is supposedly the smaller brother of the "Big Rock". It would nice to see how the "Copper Rock" compares to its Big Brother. Read more

Slautech has posted a review on the CPUFX ALUV2 Fan Adaptor The ALUV2 is slightly shorter than most fan adaptors that I´ve seen - 0.75" (19mm) as opposed to the Plycon fan adaptor height of 1.5" (35mm). This could either be a bad thing or a good thing - Because the height is lower, there isn´t so much force on your CPU socket (Remember levers in physics lessons?), which is obviously good. But then it might be bad for airflow since I read somewhere that if the area through which the air travels through narrows suddenly, the airflow will be adversely affected. The inner sides of the ALUV2 aren´t as deep as other fan adaptors, so I´ll keep an eye on how this affects the results. Read more

FrostyTech has posted a review on the Dynatron Model-638 Copper Heatsink If you haven´t already heard of Dynatron then you really don´t know your performance heatsinks very well. While the Model 638 does indeed use thin-fin construction, it is not a Microfin heatsink. Microfins are the name given to a particular manufacturing process more commonly known as skiving. Dynatron´s claim to fame, and the overclockers delight, was their ability to produce the tightest fin pitches currently available. Fin thickness is equally impressive at only 0.3mm on average. Now, when we review heatsinks they generally get taken to pieces several times before the review is complete. Unfortunately I also removed the fan grill for a moment and the 38mm Delta managed to take a nice sized bite out of my finger in the process. That´s real blood, and yes I know I should have put the damn grill back on before powering up the beast, but hopefully you´ll learn the lesson I overlooked. Read more

Accelenation.com has posted a review on the Skyhawk AL-4379D-SL case The first thing I noticed about the Skyhawk case was that it is obviously very light. This was only the second Aluminum case I have had a chance to use, so the weight is still deceiving. I always get the feeling that these cases aren´t solidly constructed because of their weight. That is certainly not the case with this enclosure. Check out the pictures below and you´ll see they have definitely taken the time to make sure this thing doesn´t implode. Read more

Extreme Overclocking has posted a comparison of five different heatsinks We compared them all stock, then compared them all using the ever popular 38CFM Delta Fan. We also tested them at 1.4GHz, then cranked up the heat and tortured them at 1.6GHz. Which came out on top? Read the review to find out... Read more

South Korea´s largest Internet portal, Daum Communications, said Thursday it was seeking a court injunction to block the sale of Microsoft´s Windows XP operating system in Korea. Dan´s Data has posted a water cooler comparison There´s now a separate page for water cooling gear, to which I´ve added a new comparison of six water blocks, five of which are new listings. Danger Den´s MAZE1C, MAZE2-1 and Video Card Cooler do battle with Australian outfit Silverprop´s new and very classy Cyclone and Cyclone2 water blocks. I´ve also retested the cheaper OCWC Polyblock that I used in my first water cooling tests for the comparison. The total number of things-that-can-be-attached-to-a-chip in this comparison, not counting retests with different fans and the like, is now SEVENTY-TWO. Read more

AthlonOC has posted a review on the Epox 8K7A motherboard The Abit KG7-RAID seems to be the top dawg when it comes to 761 based boards but it comes at quite a price. After all of the KA7 and KT7 issues I know of a lot of people who won’t forgive Abit for all of those problems and are looking to other manufacturers for their overclocking needs. With more and more manufacturers supporting all of the important features that overclockers need it is no longer a necessity to pay the premium prices for the Abit boards. You can often find boards with nearly as many features and sometimes better boards for considerably cheaper. Read more

FrostyTech has posted a review on the Spire 5T060B1H3R Heatsink One of the biggest concerns with heatsinks from this company is that they come to the consumer under too many different names. Spire, Speeze and Fanner are all the same company, but you might not know that by looking at the box, or boxes. The 5T060B1H3R is not blessed with one of the easiest names to recall either so we´re just going to call it the model 5T for the rest of this review. At the forefront of the emerging class of 70mm heatsinks is the Model 5T, a simple extruded design that pulls it off quite well from the outset. Read more

Tom´s Hardware has posted a comparison between the 1,1GHz Duron and the 1,2GHz Celeron Currently no CPU offers more performance for less than $150. AMD and Intel unveil their fastest low-cost processors for the bottom end of the market. AMD expands its Duron series with a 1100-MHz variation - Intel keeps up with the competition by offering the Celeron 1200 in the same class. One thing is certain at any rate; the top models at the beginner level were never to be had so inexpensively! However, both CPUs are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and, seen in terms of value for money, are absolute front-runners - you just can´t get more power for your money. Among these, the AMD Duron 1100 wins honorable mention: it only costs $102 and fits into all Socket 462 boards (Socket A). Read more
