T-Break has posted a comparison of three retail budget cards based on three different budget chipsets: the Kyro 1, the Geforce MX 200 and the SiS 315. Just one year ago an 800MHz CPU with a 64MB graphics card was an “over-the-top-of-the-line” system. Today we’re looking at the same setup as a “budget” system. Sigh. It’s as exciting as it is tiring to keep up with the pace at which hardware is moving. Who’d have imagine that in one years time, we’d have budget graphics cards with 64MB RAM, TV out and T&L features selling for less than 250 Dirhams (Under US$70)- but that’s what we’re bringing to you today. The SANS Institute has updated their Twenty Most Critical Internet Security Vulnerabilities list. Thanks CestLaVie. A little over a year ago, the SANS Institute and the National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) released a document summarizing the Ten Most Critical Internet Security Vulnerabilities. Thousands of organizations used that list to prioritize their efforts so they could close the most dangerous holes first. This new list, released on October 1, 2001, updates and expands the Top Ten list. With this new release, we have increased the list to the Top Twenty vulnerabilities, and we have segmented it into three categories: General Vulnerabilities, Windows Vulnerabilities, and Unix Vulnerabilities. Tweak3D has posted a Budget AMD DDR motherboard roundup These days, when a CPU above 1GHz can be had for a measily $100, you might be wondering which motherboard to use. Unlike choosing a processor, choosing motherboards can be much harder and more of a headache. Since there are so many brands and types of motherboards that you can purchase, you’ll probably have a difficult time deciding on a motherboard. Read more

A new version of WinAmp is out. Thanks Rich. What´s new? mb.ini skin support (Winamp/MBOpen). added page and slider for ´shuffle morph rate´ to Preferences so you can control how much the playlist morphs (mutates) each time it cycles through. PP´s ACM disk writer output plug-in instead of the classic one. PP´s WAV/VOC reader (Which is apparently so much better, but we will see). included new in_midi and in_mod (yay). made playlist editor automatically size down when necessary (on startup). made drag&drop playlist URLs work. made alt+delete work again in playlist editor. made winamp.exe and winampa.exe both much less likely to fudge HKCR/. fixed drag&drop in vis areas. made Winamp handle language packs that lack strings and/or dialogs better. made physical file remover ask you for every file, to prevent disasters. fixed issues with using a large number of input plug-ins and extensions in open box (I think). fixed a small "bug" in the id3 editor of in_mp3. fixed the frame count bug in id3 editor of in_mp3. made general purpose plug-in uninstall capability. new hyper-leet desktop icon on new installs of full version. removed Mjuice support from full version. tinyvis 2001 v2.04. AVS includes experimental fullscreen overlay mode. Read more

Read more Translator

FrostyTech has posted a review on the Thermalright CB-6L Heatsink Given the unique technology of the CB-6L we were a bit disappointed to see in come in so far behind the other coolers. In retrospect this shouldn´t be much of a surprise really. The other reference coolers all use higher-power fans to improve the sheer volume of air moving throughout their fins, and the CB-6L can´t keep up. In the end, this heatsink is relegated to the OEM class pile, and while it may be perfectly fine for your average sub 1Ghz system, there are better choices out there to consider. Read more
