McAfee Virus definitions has been updated to version 4163 If you are using VirusScan 5.x, you can easily update your DAT files from the VirusScan Central (the main VirusScan menu) and click on the Update button. The DATS will be downloaded and applied for you. The cures are included in a virus definition file called a DAT file. The easiest way to obtain new DAT files is to use the UPDATE button from VirusScan 5.x Central. PC Stats has posted a review on the Vantec CCK-6027D Copper Heatsink If you thought gold was the colour of choice for all things shinny then you are sadly mistaken - everyone interested in performance cooling knows full well that copper is king. Like its predecessor, the CCK-6035D, the half-pint Vantec CCK-6027D is based on a full copper thin-fin base design and packs a powerfully noisy Delta fan up top. The question is, how will the shorter CCK-6027D compete against the larger CCK-6035D? Which one should you be thinking about getting? One of these two heatsinks outperforms the other, and it isn´t the heatsink you think it is. That´s right, where size doesn´t matter, fin density does, and this copper cooler from Vantec has got a few tricks up its´ sleeves that surprised even us. Read more

Tweakers Asylum has put up Part 1 of their PSU Tech Guide. So you just got that brand new 1.4 GHz TBird and a motherboard equipped with an AMD-761 Northbridge. The loudest HSF you could find rests atop your new CPU with a thin film of Artic Silver 2 giving you a perfect rippled pattern on the bottom when lifted off. Each stick of ram is tested at 266 MHz DDR CAS 2 and your RAID array gives you enough storage space to run your own ftp site. Well.. Let me tell you this, you’re missing something, the power supply. Accelenation have posted their review of the Hercules Fortissimo II soundcard. The Fortissimo II, as I am sure you can guess, is the follow-up to Hercules´ successful Fortissimo card and offers quite a few notable features which set the two apart. First of all The Fortissimo 2 uses Crystal´s SoundFusion 4624 audio processor, a scaled-down version of their 4630 chip that powers Hercules´ GameTheater XP card. Now this card is intended to serve the same purpose as something like an AMD Duron processor. It is supposed to give you the most ´bang for the buck´ and offer features which no other sounds cards offer for the same cost. The question is, does it succeed? Well, let´s take a deeper look at the specifications. Read more

A security vulnerability exists in Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access, because it will accept and process a request for an item in an authenticated user´s mailbox without verifying first that the folder structure is valid. An attacker could mount a denial of service attack by repeatedly levying a request for a non-existent but deeply nested folder in his own mailbox. Read more

Analysts are advising against using Microsoft´s Internet Information Server (IIS) because of its multitude of vulnerabilities that viruses like Nimda and Code Red exploit. The Gartner Group has advised enterprises that had not yet made web server decisions to "weigh security heavily and to evaluate other web server software offerings" rather than opting straight out for IIS. Maximum Hardware has posted a review on the PCMod´s Rheobus Kit One of the first things that most people do when they enter "the lab" where I test and review components is wonder how I manage to get anything done with all the noise. I really can´t blame them; when a single computer has over 10 fans running at full speed, and there is more than one computer in the same room, things tend to get a little loud! If you´re like me and don´t mind sacrificing your hearing in order to drop your CPU temperature by a few degrees, then it likely doesn´t bother you. However, I´d be willing to guess that when you want to listen to that brand new MP3 you just downloaded or play a quiet, thinking game, such as Chess, the last thing you want to hear is a jet engine-like "whirrr" from all your fans running. This is where the PCMod´s Rheobus Kit, that the good folks at CrazyPC.com generously provided, comes in. Read more

Anandtech has put up a review on the Tyan Tiger K7 dual Athlon motherboard The Tiger MP picks up where the Thunder K7 left off in that it is the perfect motherboard for the workstation user. It´s rare that you find a workstation in need of dual 100Mbit Ethernet controllers or such a weak on-board PCI Video solution; the Tiger MP comes with none of that excess baggage to a workstation user. What is preserved however is the performance and quality of the original Thunder K7, just in a cheaper (less than $250), more basic package. Read more

GideonTech has posted a review on some aluminum coolers from Bits Power. These are slightly different in design, they utilize what they call ´skiving technology´. Overclocked Cafe has posted a review on DTI´s 2015XLS 15" LCD monitor. Before we look at whether or not this thing really works, let´s take a look at how it works it´s magic. Basically, it takes advantage of how our own eyes and brain perceive images by essentially displaying two 512x768 images stretched across the screen. The left image appears on odd columns where the right image appears on even columns. Both images are shown simultaneously using an ´illumination plate´ behind the LCD panel. DTI uses this to perform what they call ´parallax illumination´. Your brain takes the two images and combines them to form an apparent 3D image. Think about the ´Red/Blue glasses´ type of 3D and how it works. A slightly different image is seen by the left and right eyes, creating an illusion of depth when the images are combined in our brains. Read more

PCStats has posted a review on the MSI MX400 Pro-VT32S Video Card MSI has added S-Video VIVO (Video In, Video Out) and 5 ns SDRAM. Last but not least, who could forget the pretty red PCB too! The MSI MX400 Pro-VT32S can be quite a worthy competitor, "can" being the key word. At stock, it doesn´t have enough power to compete with the higher end cards, but when it´s overclocked it leads to quite a performance gain! Many times being able to compete with cards that should be faster such as the ATI Radeon. Read more
