  1. Some motherboards have a setting (SATA Emulation) in the bios setup to emulate IDE hard drivers (Legacy Mode IDE). If that not help you can also try another Linux live CD distribution. There are a few out there. Some are even for diagnosis and rescue.
  2. No, removing the FAT32 partition will not help. Sound like you have no longer any Linux partitions on your hard drivers? In this case you just need to remove the master boot record of the first hard drive to get rid of grub. An alternative way clearing the master boot record is using a Linux live CD. Boot up the Linux live CD and open a command shell window. Then run the following command: Code: dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sda1 bs=446 count=1 This will remove the master boot record of the first SATA hard drive (= /dev/sda1).
  3. I finally finished building my test PC: Asus M2N-E SLI motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ EE Corsair DDR2-RAM Kit 4096MB Asus Extreme N8600GT Silent 256MB video card DVD+R/+RW SATA LG GH20NS DVD burner
  4. Which version of Windows are you using? It seems that Windows XP have sometimes problems with LVM enabled Linux partitions. You could try to remove the Linux partitions in question with a Linux installer/installation CD. Then you need to fix the master boot record with the Windows recovery console.

    Windows 2008?

Done. Windows Server 2008 is an option at the compatibility lists. There are already a few submissions in the database: http://www.ntcompatible.com/compatoscat175.html http://www.ntcompatible.com/compatoscat177.html

    Website Blocking Due To Adblockers

Quote: I guess my point is I run a personal forum and host it through iPowerWeb hosting, I don't require any of my users to pay for the forums and I don't allow any ads on the site, I pay for the annual service myself along with the domain name renewell. You can't compare a small website with a larger one. Most shared web hosting companies would shut down larger websites immediately, even some claim to have unlimited traffic or web space. You find usual a clause in their AUP about CPU and memory usage. The only alternative for such sites are dedicated servers, which are much more expensive. I am sure most review websites on the front page are running on dedicated servers. Quote: I don't block google text ads (because I don't noticed them anyway) phillip and I don't bother to block the amazing annoying popup ads here @ ntcompatible...mostly because I'm too lazy....although I'll be reading someone's post and getting a stupid box popping up getting in the way of my reading is insanely annoying. Those are not popups but IntelliTXT. I find these ads quite acceptable after the links are marked with double lines and the ad will only show up if you move the cursor over the link. I use them only on two locations, one are the forum threads. Quote: Heck, I don't even have cable TV or over the air TV because I hate advertisements. I do dish out the money on TV shows on DVD and movies.....waaayy too much money. I have cable but also some Pay-TV channels

    Website Blocking Due To Adblockers

If everyone is blocking advertisements we will have sooner or later an Internet without free websites. Bear in mind that many sites depend on their ad revenue after it pays the server, bandwidth, etc. I am always trying to keep the advertisements on my sites as less annoying as possible and even reviewing them from time to time. This seems the best way to make everyone happy.

Euro symbol and Outlook Express 6

The Euro symbol is usual Alt and the "e" key. The symbol on the 4 key look only similar to the Euro symbol.

    API Database thingy

It means you can download the CompatDB compatibility database from the mirror and use it in both open source and commercial projects for free An example how a CompatDB implementation could look like is the compatibility list at http://www.majorgeeks.com/compatibility.html

    Old Posts

Quote: Out of the 908 posts in Buy Sell and Trade, only 5 of them are for this year. I changed now the default display option for the sells forum to 1 month. The older postings are still there but will no longer showed up by default. Quote: Doesn't it use up space on the server keeping all these old posts in place? Yes, but it is small compared to the actual size of the server harddisk

    VHS Video Transfer.

You can capture the video with TV tuner cards such the Haupauge WinTV. Some video cards have also video-in. Then use Nero Premium to transcode/burn a video DVD. However, the easiest way to transfer your VHS videos to DVD is a standalone DVD recorder.
  23. I bought an Apple TV last week
  24. Quote: I'd like to see something implemented that prevents or discourages people from submitting apps as compatible for the OS that they're designed for. For example, I see 25 listings for Bootvis and so I look and see that most of the entries are saying it runs great on XP. Well, it's supposed to. XP is what it's designed for. According to the Bootvis license, XP is all you're allowed to run it on. Saying that it runs great on XP isn't really helpful information. I've always thought of the compatibility listings as apps or devices that were designed for other OS's that were found to work under NT based OS's. Sometimes with a little nudge to get going. I am planning in a few days another update, which makes the comment field a requirement and no longer only an option. This should help increasing the overall quality of the submissions. Quote: Which brings me to another point, and I'll use Bootvis as an example again. Bootvis has several entries saying it works great on Win 2k. Well, I just installed 2k and patched it all up and Bootvis doesn't work. I don't really care that Bootvis doesn't work on my 2k, but I'd like to see some info in the Bootvis listings that tell what the trick is to get it going on 2k. That's the reason for the CompatDB.org Corrections forum. If you see any inaccurate submissions report it in this forum. I do my best to keep the list accurate as possible, but it is not easy to re-verify alone all submissions because there are over 13000 in the database. Quote: Other than those two things I like what you've done with the compatibility listings. It's what originally brought me to NT Compatible back in geez... 1998 or 1999 or so. Man has it really been that long? Yes, the list is over 9 years old
