  1. PC Stats has posted a review on the Samsung ML1651N Laser Printer The Samsung ML-1561N is a network enabled SOHO 17ppm mono laser printer. With a resolution of 1200dpi and an average toner lifespan of about 8,000 pages (at 5%) it makes an attractive option for small to medium businesses to consider. The small footprint and fairly diverse feature set mean that companies currently looking for a quick, low cost printer can easily do so with out breaking the bank. With a total of 16MB on board memory and two 100pin SDRAM expansion slots, the ML1651N can be expanded to better suite specific printing requirements (large images or files for example), but from what we´ve seen during our use of it, 16MB is quite sufficient. A total of 144MB can be supported by the 166MHz RISC processor. Read more

    ATIs Radeon 8500 Chipset

PC Stats has posted a review on ATI´s Radeon 8500 Chipset In theory, this will allow the 8500 to render more complex texture affects within a single rendering pass than the GF3 is capable of. I say "in theory" because first of all, nothing besides ATI tech demos currently uses the 1.4 instruction set. Secondly, Nvidia has disputed ATI´s claim to superiority, noting that the Geforce 3´s nfiniteFX engine is capable of the same amount of detail. Nvidia also suggest that the two extra texture operations per pass supported by the Smartshader will not add up to any real world speed increase. Finally, in order for the 8500´s 1.4 compatibility to be used, developers will have to code for it. This means extra work and you can be sure that they will program for the 1.3 pixel shader spec which the GF3 supports. Read more

    Windows XP Guide

Tweak 3D has put up a Windows XP guide We have received a few flat panel monitors from Samsung recently for review, but this is by far the one I have been most excited about. The reason being that this is not only a flat panel monitor but also a flat panel TV. The Samsung 170MP has a television tuner built into it. Not only does it have a TV tuner but it also has an RCA Cable, and S-Video line in so you can hook up your VCR or DVD player too it. Read more
  6. Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices will call its upcoming desktop processor the Athlon XP in what seems to be an odd marketing coincidence. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD next month will release a 1.5GHz Athlon desktop processor. But unlike current chips that merely go by the name "Athlon," the new chip and its successors will carry the XP suffix, similar to Windows XP, the name of Microsoft´s next operating system. Read more

    NVIDIA nForce Chipset Preview

Amdmb.com has posted a NVIDIA nForce Chipset Preview After meeting with representatives of NVIDIA earlier last week, I decided to write my findings and thoughts on the technology that will be behind the nForce power motherboards that you might see as soon as October. While some of this information may seem to be well known, there were many rumors circulating that the nForce chipset was having delays and that features were being dropped in order to meet deadlines. NVIDIA assured me that this was not the case, and the data they provided me with, and that I am sharing with you, is an assurance of that. Read more

  16. GamePC has posted a review on the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum Creative has finally moved past its vaunted SoundBlaster Live! series with the Audigy. On the surface, not much has changed. The board itself is still made of Creative´s trademark "onyx" style PCB. It is slightly larger than the Live, making room for the additional connectors on the board. Creative has also gone back to the gold connectors, much like the original Live, to replace the fruity PC99 colors. Read more

    Pentium 4 Cooler Review

Dan´s Data has posted a review on Pentium 4 coolers Two Glacial Tech "Igloo" coolers go up against Intel´s stock board-bending Socket 478 cooler, and AVC´s very groovy Sunflower. Thanks to the size of the heat sink and fan, and the big contact patch, even the stock cooler performs very well - but that doesn´t mean it can´t be beaten. Read more

    Fortis Coolers Review

Overclockers Online has posted a review on the new Fortis coolers. Here´s how we test all heatsinks @ O² ... We tested each heatsink for about an hour with RC5 and Prime95 running together with other common used software like email, ICQ and stuff. RC5 and Prime95 is used to max out the CPU power and to let the CPU generate as much heat as possible. After an hour, we measured the temperature with that nifty little program called Motherboard Monitor. The next step is to turn of all the programs that were running during the stress test and see how the temperature evolves after about half an hour. That´s when we measure the idle temps. I´d like to note that the HQ45 case of our testbed was closed and no additional case cooling was turned on. By the way ... this is how we always test the HSF´s around here! Read more
