Franknet has posted a review on the Compaq Presario 17XL570 notebook This was a display model, and the OS wasn´t installed, but that´s okay since it was Windows Me. Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 was installed on the Presario when we brought it home. The only thing that was missing from the package was the AC adapter--that was it. The battery, restore CD, and hot-swap drives were all included. The restore CD had Windows ME, but as we don´t care about ME, that CD wasn´t used. Adaptec´s Easy CD Creator 4 and Direct CD 3 were included on a separate disc--very helpful, even though we already have these programs. This laptop´s pointing device is a touchpad which many laptops utilize as opposed to that pencil eraser found in others--which I´ve played around with display models and hate these erasers. Of course, you can also get an optical mouse with USB and use that too if you don´t like laptop pointing devices. Read more

Tuplay has posted a review on Max Payne. Max Payne´s arsenal is made up of a wide variety of weapons. You´ll find pistols, shotguns, machine guns, rifles, grenades, molotov cocktails, and the occasional "Blow Everything In The Room Up Including Yourself" weapon. But it´s not the amount of weapons that make Max Payne a thrill to play. It´s how they´re used. Let´s say I spotted a few thugs around a corner, and they haven´t noticed me. I have a ton of options available to me. I can toss a grenade, or a molotov at their feet. Or I can charge in with my shotgun blazing. Maybe I should use my dual berrettas. In Max Payne, your weapon choice actually makes a difference. Read more

A new beta build of NVmax Beta 1 is out. Thanks Christian. What´s new in this build: - Fixed lots of problems with the color control settings and added code to report values correct if registry entry doesnt exist (default) - Fixed lots of overclocking problems, startup code and applying code. There is no guarantee, however the rundll32 problems should no longer exist as nvmax uses different code to detect the operating system and driver version independantly (uses to use an AND function which doesnt work well). I am experiencing no problems in either XP RC2 or ME using 12.90 or 14.20. - Program will load settings far faster when you click on an icon/function. - Fixed problem whereby Digital Vibrance was available on cards other than mx series. - Fixed Restore Settings crashing. - Attempted to fix texture window failing to load. - Fixed Beta expiration notice. FrostyTech has posted a review on the Dynatron Model-O Copper Microfin Heatsink The Microfin technology used in the Model-O heatsink is quite simple from the outset. Small flaps of copper have been skived from a flat plate of copper to form fins which stand upright, creating a seamless thermal joint. With the Dynatron Model-O, both fins and base are made from one solid piece of copper - there are no joints whatsoever. The only component attached to the one-piece heatsink is the aluminum shroud used to support the fan, and direct airflow down into the fins. Now we´ve seen similarly formed heatsinks before (ie. the aluminum AVC Skive), but so far none have had anywhere near the same degree of fin density. In fact the Model-O boasts sixty 0.35mm thick copper fins set at a pitch of 1.0mm. The high-density fin design creates a larger amount of surface area to diffuse heat to the surrounding environment, and should theoretically make this a more efficient heatsink. Read more

Overclockers Online has posted a new cooler shootout featuring a long list of heatsinks. Besides the Dragon Orb, the new Vantec CCD-6035D and the Thermalright SK6 they also included some unknown heatsinks and one aimed towards the silent pc´s out there. The 6030D is the first of two new high performance Vantec heatsinks we´re going to discuss today at O². This first one is completely made out of aluminum and has a 60mm x 60mm x 25mm 7000rpm fan (with fan grill) as stock fan. The 59mm x 60mm x 27mm alu heatsink has a kind of thin fin design with over 30 thin (1mm) fins. The 6030D measures 66mm x 63mm x 61mm in total which isn´t that big at all. The retention clip is superb, you don´t need a screwdriver or any other tool to mount it onto your CPU. That´s just great! There´s nothing more to say about this heatsink. Are these new (and improved?) Vantecs even beter than the older ones? Let the figures speak for themselves ... Read more

Overclockers New Zealand has posted a review on the Transcend TS-AK4/A motherboard. The board seems to target the OEM market with 1/4/1/1 (AGP/PCI/ISA/AMR) design. This configuration should satisfy people looking for low cost system especially it also has AC97 sound. There are a few ipswitches here and there because the motherboard is not entirely jumper free. Transcend is nice enough to include a chipset fan which should increase stability of the system. The VIA chip does run very hot and active cooling is always better than passive solution. There are three fan headers but the chipset fan has used one of the fan connector. You left with two fan connectors and this is enough for the average users anyway. Read more
