My SB Live works. Maybe you suck?

On Thursday we'll have sh1t-loads of newbie posts that have already been covered innumerable times... We should see final drivers too, but I suspect some companies (Creative, Matrox) will fumble... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

MS don't supply the domain management tools with the WorkStation versions of the OS. You can find them on the server versions, or on the WorkStaion Resource Kit. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

What do you actually mean by: "if I want to shut down Win 2k into break" It doesn't quite make sense...

You don't say what build you have, so all the comments will be based on build 2195 - which is the gold RTM build. You also don't say if you're trying UT in D3D or OpenGL... 1. Don't install any DX7 kit - DX7 is built in to this build of W2K. 2. Install the latest UT patch - 405b. 3. Install the latest D3D update for UT. 4. Once you've installed the latest video drivers, run DXDIAG to ensure you have D3D and AGP. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Pretty much all Adaptec SCSI controllers are supported natively by W2K. Most RAID controllers normally present themselves as an exisiting controller - thereby insulating the OS from the fact that it's a RAID card - Adaptec included. Check the web-site and if nesseccary send them an e-mail - they are VERY responsive to such questions (unlike Creative or Matrox). W2K in all versions will support all devices - the binaries are the same in all versions. The differences are achieved by registry settings... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Microsoft Win2k Giveaway (did anyone else win a copy?)
YuppieScum replied to jabbathewocket's topic in Hardware
They didn't give away enough...I didn't win one... -
The MS HCL lists the following Microsoft DSS 80 (USB) Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 (USB) Microsoft Digital Sound System Composite Device (USB) Microsoft MS DSS 80 (USB) Microsoft WSS (ISA) Microsoft Digital Sound System Audio Controls Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 HID Audio Controls (USB) Drivers for all of these ship with W2K. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

At the moment, the only Voodoo2 drivers for W2K are from here. There are no "official" drivers. If they don't work, then they don't work. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

One thing to remember : the Workstation version of NT (including W2K Pro) are restricted to 10 concurrent incoming connections - Server and above are not. The only difference between MS upgrade products and the full version is the additional checking code in the first part of the Setup - they are otherwise binary identical. FWIW, MSDN Pro is worth it's weight in gold - I can't recommend it too highly if you are in any way serious about s/w development in Windows.

OK, try this... Set the BIOS "Plug and Play aware OS" setting to false/off. Set the IDE UltraMode from Auto to whatever setting you feel it ought to be. Do the same for IDE0 MAster PIO/DMA Mode Restart the OS... Also check the Event Log to see if there are any siginificant messages...

Because it hates you. Or, it could be a hardware problem. List your hardware and driver versions, and maybe someone can help... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Is NTFS faster than FAT32? The jury is out. I find NTFS faster - other say FAT32. How do you convert from NTFS to FAT32? Reformat the drive. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

I don't know where you got this idea, but IIS is shipped with W2K Pro. It is not, however, installed by default. Go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel, and click the third icon down on the left hand side... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

If you'd done some further reading, you'd find that the latest driver version is 3.76 - and it's beta. You'd also find several links to this and many other beta drivers - but I'll be kind and sat www.reactorcritical.com The drivers that ship with W2K gold (2195) are version 3.53 and have no OpenGL or AGP support, hence the wondowed-only UT. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Hm...You've already posted this question once (http://ntgamepalace.3dfiles.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/001263.html) but I'll answer again anyway. The deivce appears on the Microsoft W2K Hardware Compatability List, and at least one other denizen of this site has this card working... So, you can do one of the following... 1. Uninstall, and reinstall the drivers. 2. Uninstall and reinstall the card - possibly in conjunction with (1) above. 3. E-mail SMC regarding drivers 4. Post details of your machine, including driver and OS revisions, so we can try and help resolve what might be a hardware conflict. 5. Buy a better (PCI) network card. They can be had for as little as $10 now... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

The problem is that the drivers are BETA, and don't work very well... You'll have to wait until MAtrox bother to release some real ones... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Yes. Completely and absolutely. Native drivers ship with the OS. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" CL TNT1 AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (no 120-day eval)

Call up the Task Manager (Ctrl-Shft-Esc), select the "Processes" tab, and click the CPU col header. This will show you all active processes in order or their CPU usage so you can find out which one is actualy busy. Chances are it's either your virus scanner or the tool responsible for indexing your files (in Office95 is was called FastFind). ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" CL TNT1 AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (no 120-day eval)

Hmm... Who says that the info you give is actually correct?

There are no "official" Voodoo2 drivers for W2K. That's why Tony put the "hack-pack" together in the first place... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" CL TNT1 AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (no 120-day eval)

I've noticed that W2K has native support for Syquest drives. You should be able to just plug it in and have W2K recognise it automatically. If this doesn't work, perhaps you could give us some details about your setup... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" CL TNT1 AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (no 120-day eval)
