install ez-cd 4 - it gives you cd-r and cr-rw/directcd functionality under w2k
-
been there, done that, can't remember most of it. still, the 3.64 drivers under rc3 have d3d but no agp texturing - at least it's not reported by dxdiag. q3a rocks, so ogl works...haven't tried ut yet...

This article in The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/991129-000007.html) says "No driver that ships with Win2k will contain OGL support... vendors will have to supply their own post ship." How crap is this . . ?
-
dude, how about a link to the drivers?
-
Welcome back, and congratulations on the connection!

If you'd bothered with anything beyond the front page, you'd find that one of the main contributers "J C Lane" works for MS, and it was his article, posted in the discussion forum some weeks ago, that mentioned the lack of a W2K driver. Have you bothered trying to get a driver from MS, junior?
-
According to an MS "insider" who posts on 2cpu.com, the phone group don't have a w2k driver and won't for a while yet - and have been slapped around for it.

Hmm...I don't remeber what the reg key was (if I find it, I'll post it) but if the Tweak tool doesn't do it under RC3, then it's almost certain that MS changed it 'cos people were disabling it Anyway, what does it matter? It only shows up on the desktop, and only in pre-release builds, so BFD...

You know . . . discretion, subtlety, things like that . . .
-
I assume it also didn't appear in the Logical Drive list. what did it report about the drive in Removable Storage->Physical Locations? What media devices does it report supporting?
-
Search the forum archive, the answer's in there somewhere. IIRC, it's a registry setting . . .
-
You should make sure you can get drivers for your hardware first, so I'd suggest you look at some of the driver sites like win2kbox.8m.com

The Voodoo2 does NOT have a true OpenGL ICD, so chances are when you're selecting OpenGL the game is trying to invoke it on your primary display adaptor. To get HL running in OpenGL, you'll have to place a copy of the Voodoo2 OpenGL DLL (appropriately renamed) into the HL directory. To get the device as a drive letter, go to Control Panel->Admin Tools->Comp Manager->Disk Manager

Check the actuall version numbers on the DLLs. You'll find that 3.55 is actually a "re-badged" 3.53...

Help installing TNT2 drivers (Elsa Erazor TNT2) under Win2k
YuppieScum replied to bubba's topic in Hardware
Have you installed the DX7 update on 2128? This is a must-do... FWIW, Q3A rocks -
I've just looked through the hardware wizard under RC3, and there are 1. No Diamond sound card drivers of any sort. 2. No entry "Aureal" in the manufacturers list. However, there is an entry "Aureal Vortex Game Port" under the "Standard System Devices" heading, so you can plug in your stick.

Check www.pricewatch.com - 128Mb is $140 at the moment, and 6 months ago I got some for $57 a pop . . .(sob)

The directory is being populated now...

If you're actually on the beta program, give your MS account rep a call, and they'll dish out a UID and Pwd for the FTP site over the phone - a collegue of mine got one just this way only last week. If not, check out chameleon's page mentioned elsewhere . . .

The TNT driver that installs "natively" is still 327, and doesn't support D3D or AGP. I slapped the 356 in and played the new Q3A for hours . . .

Help installing TNT2 drivers (Elsa Erazor TNT2) under Win2k
YuppieScum replied to bubba's topic in Hardware
chameleon: Just grabbed the 3.56 drivers and slapped them on RC3 - Q3A rocks with them! FWIW, RC3 seems a lot quicker - more responsive, etc. -
The latest drivers from NVidia support both the TNT and GeForce cards. It should co-exist with your 330 if it is PCI-based.

In what way do the drivers fail? When do they fail? Also, re-install as "Standard VGA", and actually delete the nv*.whatever driver files, together with the *.INF files. Then install the W2K driver. Regarding the WinModem: Remove it from the machine. Hit it with a hammer. Cut it into quarters with an angle grinder or jig saw. Smother in gasoline. Ignite. How bury the ashes and invest in a real modem.

SMP does work. Any code that is written to be multithreaded will benefit from additional CPUs, and I reasonably sure that PhotoShop falls in to this category. However, you may well find that another 256Mb of memory will give you a much bigger bang/buck ratio, given the tasks you're doing. Consider, how big (in Mb) are the images you're processing? If the OS is swapping out to disk all the time, an extra CPU won't help much . . . Also, try doing things in stages... 1. Get the memory first (more memory is ALWAYS good) 2. Then get a fast P3 - the SIMD stuff will give PhotoShop an extra kick. 3. Then get a good SMP board - something with SCSI and a RAID option like the SuperMicro boards. 4. Then get the second CPU You can swap the order of 2 & 3 if you like, but this means you can see the incremental difference of the updates, and you can spread the cost over several weeks/months.
