Happy birthday, JImmy! Based on past releases, the directory should open up just after close-of-business EST . . . which will give me just enough time to get home, kick off the ADSL download, then go out for dinner and burn a CD when I get back. Cool . . .

Two things. 1. Just because DXDIAG says you have final DX7 don't make it so. Unless you've d/l'd and installed the DX7 final update, you don't have DX7 final. 2. Which driver revision are you using? Does your Riva128 driver claim DX7 compatability?

Don't use the s/w that ships with the Rio - it's crap, and won't run under NT of any sort. I use "RioShell" under NT4 and W2k - it rocks! Get it here... http://www.delymyth.freeserve.co.uk/rioshell

Can you be a bit more specific -which "controls" do you need? The "tinkering" controls for D3D and OpenGL are unlikely to be provided by the native, MS-approved drivers, as they can compromise stability - a definate no-no in the NT world. PowerStrip is the best solution. Which version crashes on you? Have you downloaded the most recent W2K-specific version? [This message has been edited by YuppieScum (edited 11 November 1999).]

Can't get to the directory yet though . . .

Just snagged and installed it. TNT driver is version 3.27 and no D3D support in it Might try the new one tomorrow . . .

Hugo - Good point, but at the same time I think we'd all like to keep the signal-to-noise ratio as high as possible - which means some people might get slapped around a bit viper - Is this some kind of come-on? Drop me a line when you're next in NYC...

I still get "access denied"
-
Denied? How was it denied? What was the error message? And more importantly, are you logged in as an administrator?
-
Good point. There's no reason people shouldn't observe the same kind of netiquette in these forums (fora?) that USENET demands. Also, we have all these categories like "Junior Member" and "Senior Member" . . . maybe there should be one called "Idiot Member" assigned to people by acclamation? Only those on the CPP get to pay for reporting bugs... But if you don't have access, then the source of new builds is USENET

dolce, I just took a look on the Ms FTP site, and it's not there . . . is this a release candidate for RC3, or just another interim build like 2151?
-
Build 2151 was posted on the official beta tester FTP site. Subsequent builds were "internal use only" or IHV-program builds. Diamond are talking bollocks when they cite legal restrictions on the release of W2K drivers. Diamond are CRAP at producing timely drivers their hardware. It was the same with Win95 and NT4 - "we won't produce drivers until the OS is gold", which meant you got worthwhile drivers some 6 months after the OS release. FWIW, I stopped approving Diamond hardware several years ago - there is NOTHING they produce that isn't made better made by other companies...all they have now is a brand name.

I don't have my changer handy (it's in a machine back in England) - but have you tried . . . Control Panel, Admin Tools, Computer Manager, Storage, Disk Managment and assign drive letters there. It should show you all the devices. . .
-
Haven't done a whole load of testing with 2151, as my company's Y2K implemenation freeze is happening, so we're trying to get our final releases out of the door. that said, I have put the 3.53 TNT drivers on it - but you have to find the INF and PNF in WINNT\INF directory that refer to NVidia, and trash them. Then the driver installs with no probby... Dual 300a@450 on a SuperMicro P6DBS + 384Mb

The straight answer is "perhaps." Some do, some don't.

Saw a post a while ago elsewhere from an MS tech guy who said the s/w doesn't run under W2K, and the group responsible for it are getting incredible amounts of ****. Expect a new version sometime soon . . .
-
I remember seeing in the HCL that it was supported, so there should either be a driver shipped with the OS, or one available from LogiTEch. The supplied s/w almost certainly won't work, as it will be for Win9x, and many camera core USB drivers are actually 16bit - like my CL WebCam2. If you want to send it to me, though, I'll try and get it working for you [This message has been edited by YuppieScum (edited 03 November 1999).]

I saw a posting on another board that said to use \foo\setup.exe win2000 to invoke the Intellimouse s/w . . . I'll dig out the URL later...

I've been using assigned IP to conect to my company secure network, and to my ISP when the ADSL fails, whith no problems since W2K beta 2. But hang about . . . one of your ISP's dial-in works, and the other doesn't. Might be worthwhile finding out what differences there are at their end between the two. Also, try and pre-define as much info as possible - default gateway, DNS and such - to give your connect the best chance of getting an IP address.
-
The best way to re-install is to first search the WINNT\INF directory for *.INF and *.PNF files that refer to the hardware, and delete them - then do the driver update.
-
As you've now got an Adaptec card, go to their web site and get the ASPI update kit. It will slap the latest versions onto your machine. However, as you've been extensively "tinkering" with SCSI stuff in order to get things working, it may be a good idea to do a clean re-install...

I use an SB Live at the moment, but in older builds I reverted to an ISA AWE64 (no Live drivers). In all cases the FF effect worked, so I'm not sure what to suggest now...have you installed the Dx7 update?
