Abit BP6 USB controller and Win2k

With my SuperMicro P6DBS, USB worked with 2031, 2072 and 2099 right away. Make sure you have USB enabled in the BIOS, and you've got the latest BIOS revision for your mobo. You could also give us a little more info, like what mobo, BIOS revision, USB devices, and NT build you're actually using...otherwise you might just get people saying "well, it works for me"

    win2k RC1 and dhcp servers

Not true. When my DSL ****ed up, the ISP gave me a temporary dial-up that used DCHP (my DSL is static). It worked first time under 2072. I also use DCHP when connecting to my office under 2031 and 2072 with no problems - and the back-end are supported by Digital Unix on Alpha.

    SB PCI 64 Gameport problems

Go and get the latest driver software from http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/force/default.htm This worked for me with a SW-FFP and SB-Live

    Matrox G400 drivers?

Damn. NT4 drivers. I was hoping there might be beta w2k somewhere I had already played with the NT4 drivers under 2031 when I first got the card (on eval), but had trouble with OpenGL and there's obviously no D3D...and the same story under 2072. Matrox are being their usual unhelpful selves -no reply to several e-mails - , and I can't be arsed to d/l 2099 just to see if G400 support has been added.

    Viper550 TNT problems

Try dropping your FSB speed back down to 100Mhz or even 66Mhz - always a good plan when things behave a bit oddly - then start uping things only when you have a stable basis.

    New Voodoo2 INF and SMP?

All the previous versions of the Voodoo2 setup failed on my dual CPU environment under both 2031 and 2072, so I ended up just yanking the card out (an Obsidian X24 dual-V2-on-a-card). Is it worth my slapping this bad boy back in to my box, or is there still no SMP support? How about if I upgrade to build 2099 (pre-RC2)?

    New Voodoo2 INF and SMP?

Don't think I ever tried that combination! I haven't been using NT4 on this box since the days of Beta1, and I got the dual going around beta 2 time. I'll try and dig out an NT4 CD and give it a go on my "experimental" partition (got Be0S 4.5.1 there at the moment). I do remember that neither the Q3D nor 3dfx drivers made any difference - both gave me a bizarre memory access error when going into the Display control panel. When I get time again, I'll try to replicate this and punt you the output (if you want, that is) l8r, etc
  8. Make sure that both CPUs are detected by the machine during POST. Make sure you've got the latest BIOS. Make sure that the MPS mode in the BIOS is set to 1.4 The re-install W2K - all versions will support at least 2 CPUs...and don't trust the upgrade utility. I've been running RC1 (2072) with 2 Celeron's clocked to 450Mhz on a SuperMicro P2DBS since it came out, and 2031 before that - no problem.
