Hm...that's not even close to an IP address. Aha! If you ping it, it resolves to 4.17.240.8 - which does work! [This message has been edited by YuppieScum (edited 27 February 2000).]

This has been a "known issue" ever since the release of Q2. You have to set the "region" of the OS to be "USA" in order for the Us edition of Q2 to install.
-
if it's on a seperate partition to Win9x, then the edit above will prevent it booting. To "deinstall" it, format the partiton!
-
Edit the BOOT.INI file with NotePad. Make the default entry "c:\" Save.

I mentioned the scan because i'm paranoid... It is rather unusual for a screen saver to install a virtual device driver. This suggests it is perhaps attempting to do something less than entirely cosher... The docs for your AV tool will tell you what it scans for...
-
The screensaver is written for Win9x, and appears to be trying to install a 16-bit VDD (virtual device driver). I would suggest deleting this as soon as possible, then run a virus/trojan scan... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

In all cases when given an option - and no W2K version - use the NT version of software. W2K is the latest iteration of NT. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Running your FSB at more than 100Mhz (which you must be doing to get >550 out of a 366 Celeron) is bad. Have you tried running the Celery's at stock speed to see if the crash still occurs? SMP is not enabled by default in Q3A. Also, many people with the same problem as your have found that using the 3.66 drivers solves it. More details can be found by searching the forum.

Optimal setting for a card depend on the underlying nature of the network you're on. Talk to your sys- and/or netadmins. 3Com have said nothing about drivers.

Well, you could just read the docs that come with the tool, or check up on their web-site... The boot-time defrag defrags files that are ootherwise unavialable, like the Master File Table, and the page file. Yes, it does make a difference.

Official 3Dfx D3D V2 Driver for Win2K released!
YuppieScum replied to FlyingPenguin's topic in Hardware
The HardOCP V2 files are dated 24 September. Further, thery don't support Glide of MiniGL. All in all, not really worth the download. -
I can recommend Notify CD (http://www.artech.se/~mlt/software/). CDDB-compatible and sits in the tool-tray.

Under RedEdit in Win9x, you should have an option to "Export" keys. This will create a .REG file. Double-clicking the .REG file under W2K will import it. HOWEVER, you will almost certainly have to modify the .REG (text format) file before importing it, in order to make sure the keys end up in the right place. Once you've created the file, and if you're a registry newbie - ICQ me and we'll sort it out.

Most odd. I use CuteFTP on W2K 2195 with an Intel/IBM 10/100 NIC running at 10Mbs connecting to my ADSL box. I regualarly get over 100kb/s when downloading... What happens if you run the FTP client and server machines "back-to-back"?

Did you actually search based on the chipset your card uses, or just on the name that Diamond gave their card. Just a search on the word "Diamond" will turn up lots of discussion of a. How crap Diamond are at releasing drivers. b. Requests for petitioners for Diamond drivers to actually name the chipset in their questions. I've been actively involved in both kinds of discussion. And finally, if we - the l33t - don't answer these questions, nobody does, and we end up with multiple postings of the same incomplete, unclear question, together with a rant about how everyone is crap by not answering. It's really a lose-lose situation for us, but we do it anyway. Oh, and i found this entry in the HCL Diamond Multimedia Stealth III S540 (AGP) which means it is nativly supported by W2K. In the BIOS change the state of the "PnP Aware OS?" setting. Once stuff works, don't sweat the sharing...

Buy more memory as soon as you can afford it - especially now when www.pricewatch.com has 128Mb PC100 for $64 Buy it while it's cheap...remember how much that same memory was 6 months ago? $200? $300? I've got 384 right now, and another 128Mb is going in next week... [This message has been edited by YuppieScum (edited 23 February 2000).]

Yes. More memory is better. No qualifiers, ifs, ands or buts. Buy more memory.

Right. So it's looking for either an INI file or registry entry that'll point to the files... So text scan the INI files, and text scan the registry... Or download the demo from the author's web-site, and just install it...

FWIW, we've still not seen any official drivers for Voodoo2...

Asus V3800 Ultra Deluxe - can't get it working under Win2k P

try booting to a command line... -
The usual is 2.5 * RAM...make the min and max the same so it doesn't get fragmented.

hey, I've got a partition with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 . . . works great and Netscape 4.0 runs fine.

sidewalk - you're missing the point. we're not sending people on wild goose (geese?) chases. "if you give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day; if you teach a man to fish, he can feed himself forever" the best way to help someone is not to spoon-feed them an answer, but teach them how to find the answer for themselves...much like that old adage... it's even better if we take this attitude on an easy question, because we know that the answer can be easily found - especially when the question has been asked once every 3 days for the last 12 weeks... we also try and "encourage" people to read before they post (ever read USENET?) so that at least they can realise what they need to post in a question...is that so bad? you'll also see that we all pile in to help on the complex, difficult, and unusual problems...

Why do you want to install the NT4 drivers, when W2K ships with native drivers for that card?
