Looking for an antivirus program ..........

Oddly enough, NT. There's even a link on the front page regarding W2K support...

    Audio PCI @ 2K

You've kept the actual information about the problem to a minimun - obviously to test our powers of deduction - but here goes... OK. The device is listed in the HCL, so a driver for this card ships with W2K. I would normally assume that you've tried installing said driver, and adjusting the settings in Control Panel, Sounds, Audio and CP,S,Hardware - and that somehow this doesn't work...but you refer to an NT driver... Did you try and install the NT4 driver? Maybe even the NT4 LiveWare kludge? Both these options would be bad - (a) because there is a native driver, and ( because the NT4 LiveWare kludge does not support SMP. So maybe you did use the native driver, and things went pear-shaped. Without knowing the actual nature of the error, I'm forced into conjecture, but... It could be that the SB Live and the Audio are conflicting in some way - perhaps even sharing an IRQ. Does the device manager show any useful info about the two cards? Have you tried removing the SB Live while installing the Audio driver? It could be an ACPI issue - try disabling ACPI in the mobo BIOS, and changing the driver in Device Manager, My Computer from ACPI MultiProcessor to MPS MultiProcessor. On the other hand - it could be something else altogether. You might want to provide some more information...

And what sound card do you have? What motherboard? BIOS revisions? Drivers? Some clues beyond "it doesn't work. how do i fix it?" would help enormously. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

HOW 2 DELETE THE HIBERFIL.SYS FILE??

Fire up W2K in safe mode or command prompt mode - that should let you delete it.

    Should I move to Win2k?

Ive been using NT since 3.1 for my development environment, and it just keeps getting better. I'd recommend going for it, but MS have a tool to check your machine for "worthyness" - go for that first. Also, check www.pricewatch.com for memory as a 128Mb PC100 stick is now $64 - you can't make a better investment for your machine as it is... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

  13. Mobo is short for motherboard. Have you tried my second suggestion? Have you installed the most recent revision on mobo BIOS? What behaviour do you get with the TNT drivers that ship with W2K?

    TweakUI for Win2K??

There Is a W2K-specific version of TweakUI. MS made it available on their NT-beta FTP site some time ago. It has additional options over the NT4/W9x version, and you can find it at ftp://ftp.globular.com/w2k/tweakui.zip

    Diff. Win2000 2195 and "final release" ...

Most of the "warezd" versions of W2K lack things like the "Support" and "Bootdisk" directories. Any official CD will have these. Also, official pre-releases had these too, the they were/are available from the NT-Beta FTP site along with W2K itself. The official, final shipped-by-MS CDs have an AutoPlay front-end that appears on none of the other available-from-MS versions. There are several variations of the official, final, MS release - some do not require a CD key. These are genrally made available only to corporate desktop infrastructure groups.
  16. Sounds like you've seriously fscked up your computer. Two things you need to do: 1. Re-read Awaxx's post above, and the tell us what your hardware actually is, so we can stop having to make guesses. 2. In Device Manager, select the "System Devices" branch, right-click and select "Scan for hardware changes". This will allow the OS to re-evaluate all the settings. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

Annihilator Pro Code 10 error under Win2k retail

Shame you didn't mention that in your original post... Anyway, the TNT and GeForce cards must have an IRQ to work under W2K, so check with Compaq for a BIOS update... If that fails, I'll give you $20 for your card...or swap you for my G400 32Mb DH.

Search the forum. This question has been answered 4 times in the last 10 days. Set "Enable IRQ for VGA" in the BIOS. [This message has been edited by YuppieScum (edited 21 February 2000).]

    Win98 Plus! on Win2k?

The organic art screen saver is not from MS but a 3rd party. Do a web search for "organic art" to find it - or even read the docs that come with it... ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

how to remove the "Winnt" folder from a ntfs5 disk

Yuo can install Server over the top of Pro. You can't delete the WINNT directory because the OS is running from there. If you want to "clean install" Server, just boot the CD. ------------------ SuperMicro P6DBS (dual UW-SCSI) BIOS 2.2, 2*Celery 300a @ 450Mhz, 384MB PC100 RAM SCSI-A=4.3Gb+9Gb, SCSI-B=Tosh32x CD-ROM, Yamaha4416 CD-RW, Iomega ZIP100, IDE1=4.3Gb IBM EtherJet 10/100 NIC PCI + Nortel ADSL "modem" Matrox G400 DH 32Mb AGP + Quantum3D Voodoo2 SLI PCI (CL TNT1 AGP on a shelf) SoundBlaster Live PCI (not Value) Win2K build 2195 Retail (not 120-day eval)

    LAN games in win2k

Actually, the punctuation character "," - the comma - is used to indicate a pause in a sentence, which in turn allows for a breath to be taken. So EddiE314 didn't "say" it all in one breath.
