uhhh.. does liveware supports SMP? maybe thats the problem.

Still.. Windows 2000 is not for the HOME USERS. Oh yeah.. it has the "best of both worlds" but is not created for Gameing. I know is easier now to deal with NT. And maybe the new computer user will be easier to deal with it. But the main issue is there. This plataform is better than NT.4 as User interface and some PnP adittions and NOW WE HAVE AT LAST A DEVICE MANAGER!! but still this aint no Game plataform. That we are going to run games nicely on Windows 2000?? of course we are, but not at smoth like we run it on Win98 or Millennium. Im testing Windows Millennium right now, Yeah.. is still DOS based.. but with no REAL DOS MODE. Is it faster? well let me tell you that this systems boots in 40 seconds and i have my system very load it with apps and stuff. I have at work a QUANTEX DUAL P-III 450 and a GATEWAY PERFORMANCE P-III 500 at home both have 128 RAM and TNT2 and etc.. etc. Let me tell you that most of the games perform SUPERB!! on Millennium than in Windows 2000. Even Q3 Arena using SMP on the Quantex (QUANTEX GIVES 56 FPS) The gateway (Does 54 FPS) and it only uses 1 processor. I hope the new games up coming for the next year and the companies that makes their drivers do something to optimize the performance of games on Windows 2000 plataform. Sorry.. but it doesnt perform like it should for games.

Guys.. im a Beta Tester for MS. I can tell you that Windows 2000 is and OS NOT for the home consumers. This OS is not been made for Gameing. This is the same NT with new features (like PNP,more user friendly) like NT 4.0 was supposed to be at first place. Do you guys want to know why MS is building Millennium? they say: MOST USERS CANT HANDLE NT. Sure.. you can play most of the games because the new features like DX7 and all that, but still.. this is not a OS for gaming. MS has said that 100 of times in the newsgroups. Do you want to play with the performance of Win98? and the power of Win 2000? Wait until 2001 when they release "Windows NEPTUNE". Dont keep waisting your time. I also want to add that it is good that all companies work in their drivers in beta stages with the OS. That gives you the confidence that when it the product hits GOLD, they will work. So with all these beta drivers having problems on the run, why you should expect a driver to work with the final product? Are they going to make the driver and the exact moment when the OS hits GOLD? that sounds stupid... the quality of the driver is not pretty trustable. these are my 2 cents. Well let me tell you something. Ive been testing Millennium since Developers Release (Im a MS beta tester)and i must say that MS have done a great job with this OS. Do you know why their making this built? Answer:Most users CANT HANDLE NT. so MS said. This OS is pretty stable and faster than any other Win9x Version. It boots in less than 40 seconds, ICS pretty easy to setup, NO REAL DOS MODE SUPPORT (Thats why it goes faster) and a bunch of stuff that has made it very quick and stable. Now we are in Beta2 stage and is pretty stable with minor bugs. This built is made just for home use (Windows 2000 is not address for Home Users)for gameing and multimedia stuff. Lets wait until Windows "Neptune" hits the street on 2001. This is s whole OS. Windows 2000 and Millennium fusion=Windows Neptune. So i dont have to explain what this OS is all about. You do the numbers.

Windows 2000 and Dual CPU's .... Is there a big difference ?
peaje replied to Ronin's topic in Hardware
Dude.. hehehe.. its like.. a volvgwagen and a jaguar.. hehehe BUt of course is worth all!!! SMP it will be address to the next generation of pc for home users. Its been there for quite awhile for Servers and Power user Pc's. In the next millennium most of the software structure and OS will be talking advantage of SMP. Windows 2000 its not address for home users. It is simple as Win98 but wont have all the multimedia advantages of Win98. Now MS is developing Windows "Millenniun" for people that are not interested to move to NT tech. In the first Q of 2001 we are getting another edition of Windows, the code name is "Neptune". This windows will provide everything that Win98 and Millennium has, but with the diference that it will have some NT touches like (SMP, Network Optimize, A REAL KERNEL!) and it will be address for home and multimedia users. Gaming and all that stuff. Lets see what happends but im pretty sure that the future in computers is SMP. -
Ummm.. i had a gateway that came with that modem.. telepath X2 56 i believe.. Had you try installing the NT 4.0 drivers for that modem?? like up[censored] the drivers? Does it works in other OS? (Win9x). The drivers that Win 2000 choose to adapt to the modem should work. This modem is made by US Robotics i believe. If you can not get it to work with this options and if you are testing Win 2000 then BUG it. Later

Ok. It was working fine before i installed the icqgroup for networks. So now.. it wont detect or launch the icq for internet. I had try uninstalling and removing all the entries in the registry to do a clean install of the icq99b for internet, no GO there. What could posibly going wrong here? im using both icq because is a network and it also has a T1 so they need both icq.. one for the intranet and the other one for the internet. I cant figure this out.. i think is something about the icqgroup for networks, but i uninstalled it.. and remove all the entries on the registry.. and stuff.. did the same with the icq99b for the internet..it wont run.. the installation runs fine... but it doesnt work. So any suggestions will be very helpfull. Thanks!!

Yes.. i did eliminate everything related with Mirabilis ICQ. and still doesnt work. no matter what i do.. it wont load icq. the main issue here.. is that was working fine before the icq for workgroups. But on win9x pc's both work together very fine. This is what is making me mad.. they can work together.. but in Win 2000 it seems that they have some kind of conflict. i Did erased everything related with icq on the registry and reboot. Install it again.. and no go. any suggestions?

Ummmm. thats weird.. did you do a clean install? or and upgrade to NT 4? From what i know.. sometimes.. motherboard BIOS sometimes make screw things for you. I have a TNT2. When i got it and installed my computer wont even boot up. So i check the motherboard web site to see if they had BIOS updates. I did an update.. and it got fixed. IF you did a Upgrade i suggest that you try a clean install and use the new 3.56 drivers from nvidia.. and also check you motherboard and see if you can get a BIOS update for it. Let me know after you had done this.

Q3DemoTest - RC2 TNT2 - GAMMA not working - too dark to play
peaje replied to ZardoS's topic in Games
Try doing this.. on the option of the game..to adjust the brightnness.. move it.. to the left.. all the way down.. and then slowly.. move it up.. it will clarify a little.. not much.. but at least is playable. Try using power strip to do a config for Q3 to play . -
New Nvidia drivers beta.. 3.56 not from ASUS.. from Nvidia. get them here. http://www.d128.com/files/drivers/RIVATNT/BETA

But anyway.. the new drivers from ASUS.. SUCKED!!! the game wont start.. so im moving back to the old drivers.. Let me tell you that.. i had NT4 installed before Win 2k RC2.. and i choose to put that command line for SMP on NT4. Then i upgrade it to WIn 2k.. and is still working. Sorry if i didnt say this in the first place i guess it slipt out hehehe Anyway.. thanks for your feedback..

Well i know what is the topic. I have Win 2000 RC2 running Q3A with SMP. It runs Great!!! i can feel the difference !! only problem is with the gamma on the game... the control wont work at all. but right now.. if there gonna be any improvements in win 2000 to manage the game i will like it too. Sorry... if my opinion is not about the topic... : ) PS: im talking about Q3A,SMP and Win2000 in both post.
-
Well im sorry to hear about all of you saying that Q3 wont work with SMP. Well i have to tell you.. that for me.. its working fine in a QUANTEX DUAL P-III 450 with NT 4. and Windows 2000 RC2.. i have a TNT 2 and a Voodoo2 12MB with reference drivers.. and it works with both video card.. glide or default opengl. So im thinking that im very lucky. Regards peaje

Yo Seldar.. i try your page.. and the links doesnt work.. at least.. not now in the morning.. can you tell me where you got the DX7 for Win2k??? i really need them.. hey.. RC2 doesnt bring the dx7 drivers right?? any way... please.. tell me where to get them.. i really need them. thanks PeAjE

I installed RC2 and it detect everything.. even the TNT2 video card that i have (DIAMOND TNT2). I try to run Quake 3 and it doesnt detect the opengl driver. So my question is. Why putting this driver on Win 2000 RC2 if the opengl ICD doesnt work? Or.. there is something that i dont know?? ^PeAjE
