I would recommend deleting any files, but if you are really hurting for diskspace, maybe try compressing the Winnt folder (properties...advanced...compress). You will need to be using NTFS to do this however, and it will most likely slow your system down. Another alternative is the new 75GB drive from IBM Dan

I think what he was saying is that if you go into the Start Menu properties, you will find some checkboxes that do exactly what you just described without having to create the folders. Take a look. Hey, I didn't know either. Dan

How does one adjust Auto-Insert Notification under Windows 2000? Under Win98 one just has to go into the Device Manager, and the CD-ROM has a checkbox for this under it. I tried to find it in Windows 2000 but no luck!! I install VMWare trial and it turned it off, so now I cannot figure out how to turn it back on.

Autoplay and Auto-Insert Notification are two different things. Autoplay is just a feature that Microsoft has developed. Auto-Insert Notification is when the drive reports that a new CD has been inserted (it doesn't necessarily autorun it). The problem I am having is Autoplay is on, but Auto-Insert Notification is off. This is annoying because I can replace the CD and it still shows that the old one is there until I hit refresh..

I recently installed the Voodoo3 drivers located at http://www.3dwin2000.de and now my graphics are really weird colours. I have seen this before in Quake by increasing the gamma way too far, but even Powerstrip doesn't seem to correct it. It only happens when choosing 16-bit colour. If I choose 32-bit, then the game works fine BUT some games don't support 32-bit. Does anybody know how to resolve this problem?

I replaced the glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll files with the ones in the Voodoo3 ICD package on your site and my problems have gone away, plus I have the faster D3D driver from the other package! Thanks.

Yeah I am having the same problem with my Logitech Trackman Marble (PS/2) in Q3A. If anybody finds a fix I would like to know . What build is everybody running that is experiencing this? I'm using 2183.

So you people have got it working under NT4 with a Voodoo3? I can't get mine working...

Intel, just like AMD and all other businesses, are in business to make a buck, not to watch somebody else gobble up their profit margins. Sure it is easy for one to say Intel is bad because they are trying to keep their massive profits high, but AMD is trying to do the same thing. Don't think for a second that if AMD was in Intel's spot that they wouldn't be competing the same way. I don't know what it is with people and their "big-business phobia", but we see it all the time: Intel, Microsoft, AOL -- all good companies that get a bad rap because of their size, yet if they are so bad how did they make so much profit? (Answer: it's in your head). Will I buy an AMD processor? Sure. So far the Athlon looks to be the strongest processor on the market, and to be very overclockable as well. Will I buy an Intel processor if it is cheaper? Yes, if it is a significant ammount of money and the performance is reasonable. If AMD wants to survive in the market then they need to have a good strategy as to how to go up against Intel (and I'm sure they do). AMD knows Intel is going to try to drive them out so they must have a plan to deal with it. With a great product like the Athlon I doubt AMD needs to rely on an Intel boycott to succeed.

I'm just wondering if there is a big performance boost by using the new Voodoo3 2000 INF? What specifically is this "D3D reghack"? Right now I am using Anthony's older INF for the Voodoo3 and it is working good, so I don't want to go messing with it unless I'm going to get better performance. Also... Is there support for the TV out with the 3000 drivers? Thanks!!

I emailed tech support about this and they said that WinOnCD does not currently work under Win2k but they were working on a patch.

Has anybody had any success with SMP under Q3Test2 and Win2k? When I enabled SMP (r_smp 1) it told me to restart the program, and when I did it would just crash with a big white screen every time I tried. My system information is listed below: 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 Dual Celeron 300A Tekram P6B40D-A5 mainboard 256MB HSDRAM 2GB free HDD

I only have one static IP and Q3Test works great in single-processor mode, but crashes with a white screen if I try setting r_smp 1 (even in v1.07). There seems to be some compatibility problem with Win2k and/or/with the video drivers.

I think it is a bit of both.

I emailed ID Software to find out what they had to say, and I got this response from Eric Webb: "There is a problem with SMP at this point. We are working to resolveit."
-
Somebody emailed me saying that 3dfx has new Voodoo3 beta drivers available which could potentially resolve the SMP problem (the sender didn't have SMP to test). I searched the 3dfx site, but was unable to find anything of the sort. Does anybody have any more information in regards to this?
