go tothe device manager, go to IDE/ATAPI Controllers, double click on a controller, primary, or secondary, in each there is a tab called advanced settings, make sure both devices are set to dma if available, do the same for both, this should enable dma if its available for the drive. it will also tell you which mode is currently in use.

Have you checked with your hardware manufactures? thats probably the best place to start. if they don't have drivers, then you're out of luck.

well i won't argue with number 1, it takes about 45mins to 1 hour on my pentium 2 300/96. but i remember that installing windows 95 on a 386dx 33mhz with 40mb ram took almost an hour to install, then again it was off of floppy disks. but im sure if he gets a new IDE cdrom drive, not using the controller card, a new(er) video card, and a new soundblaster, win2k performance should be ok on there. if he really wants to install it. i probably wouldn't as win2k isn't really to important. windows 95 was important for me to install on my 386, it gave new life to it. but win2k won't do to much to that computer.

he is basically at the minimun requirments, he doesn't have to buy a new comp, or stay with win95. why get a pii350? i have a 300mhz (o/c from 266mhz) and it works fine and his harddrive is fine for win2k, 2gb is big enough, you don't even need 1gb. but i do sugest if the soundblaster doesn't work, to get a new one, or find a used creative labs sb 16, i've got a creative labs 16 pnp/isa card (not used, i bought it 5 years ago for my 386) and it works good enough,

is this scrabble 1 or scrabble 2? (was it a blue box or a red box?) i have scrabble 1 and it doesn't even work. even after using setwin95.cmd, could be a video driver problem for me. the game runs, it just runs at the top left corner, and i can only see the bottom right, the rest of the screen becomes garbled. i contacted hasbro support about a week ago, and they don't support nt for there games, they say win2k can't play games. i wonder if they want to come up here and see if it plays games or not, all my 'real' games work <VBG>

get the win2k upgrade version, it worked fine here doing clean install. upgrades always work, i've been bying upgrade versions since windows 95, and placed in windows 3.1 disk to verify the license. worked with win98 using my win95 disks. and win2k pro using win98 cd.

Awaxx wrote: What do you call : "gamming support". Accordin to me, it don't have it ! It just have a few new components that allow some games to work properly. it has great game support, ok i can understand some people can't get some games to work, granted its nt, it doesn't have full support. but it does have it, more so than you may think, after running setwin95.cmd on a few games that gave me an error stating 'must have windows 95' or 'this does not run on nt' they all worked. i've gotten all my games to work monster truck madness 1/2, baseball 3d/2000, midtown madness, unreal tournament (d3d modE) and half-life (d3d mode) the only game that i havn't gotten working is quake 3 arena, as ati hasn't released any opengl win2k compatable drivers yet. but in a few days hopfully they will. i know some of the above games have nt as a requirement, but they are running in modes they weren't designed for in NT, direct3d, which was very bad in directx 3 which nt had. and the games run better than they do on win98. win2k has great gaming support, if your hardware is fully win2k compatable. of course millage may very.

which build of win2k is unstable? i have the final release, and its very stable, i've run many beta builds beta 2, beta 3 rc1, beta 3, rc1, rc2. they have all been highly stable, allot more stable than windows 9x line (beta and released)you'd better check your system, you may find that you are not even running windows 2000, probably windows 98 or somehting. <G>

the best way, goto your win2k cd's tools folder, copy the files setwin95.cmd and imagecfg.exe to your c:\winnt\system32 folder then just run the setwin95.cmd "program name". if it marks it it will tell you, then just run the program. if it doesn't mart it, then it will also tell you. hope it works for you! =)

is anyone having problems with ms baseball 3d/2000? bb 3d works, but has no sound and bb2k says i have no sound card. i have a creatve sb 16 isa/pnp. i have no sound problems with other games.

setwin95.cmd solved this issue, didn't know that since bb2k was detecting NT,i would have figured since its a new microsoft game, it would work fine on win2k, well after running setwin95 it works fine.

try this for the sendto question goto run, cut and past this into the run: %userprofile%\sendto exactly then your user profiles, sendto folder will pop up, at least it should.

i hope ati releases usable drivers for opengl, when they finally release there beta drivers, (those sob's still havn't release anything, after a year of complaining to them <G> ) i've seen the opengl bugs on a friends comp with a matrox g200 card, its pretty ugly bug.

well best os on the market (i won't answer =)) but i do feel its the best windows os on/off the market. once i get more ram on my computer as i could use allot more (currently at 96, normaly i use about 140mb) and i get some ati drivers for my xpert 98, so i can really play some games, and be truly happy with it. not that its bad, its certainly allot better than NT 4, and win95/98, and that crapy windows me (which im a bets tester of, so i've had extensive use out of it to come to that decision, not that i had to have that use <V> ) all in all, i say its about time we get a 'proper' operating system out of microsoft.

who said that an lx mobo doesn't use agp? i have an lx mobo, Asus P2L97, and i have an AGP slot, with an Xpert 98 AGP video card. and a friend with the same mobo, running an creative AGP tnt card. so i guess im wrong <VBG> =)

16 bit hardware should work, im not sure about that card, you should check out the hardware compatability list. but i've got a creative labs sb 16 isa/pnp card and a usr v.90 isa winmodem up and running. not sure if win2k installed the v.90 drivers, i remember beta 2 and beta 2 rc1 (the only beta versions i have recieved, hcl) drivers wouldn't support v.90, but like i use it, i have cable access. <G>

does anyone have any hacked, or beta (if any yet) icd drivers for windows 2000, for an ATI XPert 98 (rage pro chip). NT 4.0 drivers do not install at all, even the inf installer is dead. i need better drivers for games, the direct3d under win2k is extreamy slow, and there is no opengl to speak of. currently i have win2k b3 rc1 (im not a beta tester, i recieved it through hcl) any one have any answers for me? thanks.
