We have several XP computers that I need to update to XP Sp2. I was wondering how could I make an automated update for SP2 with all the options selected the way I need. It is ok if I have to visit every computer and just run a setup, I just don't want to answer all the questions and then customize pop up blocker, fire wall... etc. Should I make an MSI package or is there a better way? Thanks

We have a NT server running IIS with secured website.... All computers but one have no problems accessing it. This one pig... when you get to the site you get the log-in screen (we are using NT security for authentication) as expected, type the user name and password, and then it just kicks you back to the login screen and after 3 times says authorization failed. I've tried repair function, as well as a few other sites on different servers, all no go... any ideas? Win95 OSR2, IE 5.5 SP2 128 bit encryption.

You need a bridge. You current router and/or switch don't understand wirerless signals. So you have to buy a new switch or bridge.

How can I get user name from the variables in 2000? Like is I want to find a cd-rom drive I can use %CDROM%, so what is the one for the user name? Is there a list for all variables available in 2000? Thanks

Win2k pro has 10 concurrent licensing limitations. Does this apply to the anonymous FTP connections? I'm, just wondering if I have more than 10 anonymous users trying to log-in to the ftp server will it reject the connection after 10 users get on or the licensing only applies to actual user accounts, not FTP?

ntswitch is not a microsoft lisenced product and is considered ny MS to be illigal. You probably don't need more that 10 connections at home anyway.

What would be the best way to auto install all the current MS security updates on the network if we don't have AD (Novell 5.1). Most clients are 2000, but still a few are 95/98, I suppose we can just ignore those for now. All users have Power User rights to their local computers. There is one Win2k server available but it is stand alone with no AD setup.

Anybody actually has this setup on their network? I tried the setup, but so far I only got it to work with option 2, which is to notify about the upgrades, and only for users with Admin rights

I gave up and just bought USB memory adapter card (Flash reader). It also doesn't drain the batteries when transferring pictures. Only $20.

Notes rulz man! Anyhow, dunno about 5.06a but 5.0.8 seems to work very nice. Also 5.0.9a works well. 5.0.10 kinda sucks. Go to lotus site and get the updates, they are free anyway.

Latest bios has support listed for 1.3g. So you might wanna flash the bios 1st. I installed 1.1 yesteday and it worked like a charm.

You can also get a bick stick and beat the password out of they guy who changed it. Or just ask him to tell it to you and then get the stick out so he never attempts to steal it again.

What can you guys suggest as an easy to use network monitoring tool that does not create a lot of extra trafic. Has to be either freeware or not that expensive to register. Maybe below $200 US.

That is what I used. When compiling got a few error messages and warnings. Didn't get the exe file

That thing only monitors trafic to/from your computer. i need a full network monitor. Like www.ntop.com The linux version is free but you have to pay for the Win32 version unless you can compile it... I've tryed but failed Maybe some one can complile the code?

Anyone is having any problem with it? I applied to one IIS5 and it seems to be fine so far. (one day) Another dude patches his up and now he is having problem connection with his NetWare server. Don’t ask me why you want IIS to have NetWare client

You will not save any $$ buy using Pro. Maybe upfront cost, but after a few month and many extra hours spent you will realize that Server was a cheaper/easier way to go. Not to mention 10 user connection limit. Just think off all time you can save by automating software rollouts, upgrades patches....
