  1. This item has been sold.
  2. Vey nice of you to add this section. Many thanks as well. Ed
  3. I've had them to 560 at 2.2v and stable. (7x80Mhz FSB) I don't like the idea of going higher with the voltage. Ed
  4. If I had an ABIT BP6 with Two 466 on it for sale could I post it here? I would guess that I could but I don't want to piss everyone off. Ed

    Supermicro P6SBE

I am considering replacing my Dual Celeron BP6 with a pair of P3-600's on a Supermicro P6DBE and am wondering about the stability, overclocking ability, USB, ACPI etc of this board. Anyone running this board and what are your impressions? Thanks Ed

    Supermicro P6SBE

Topic should read Supermicro P6DBE. Sorry for the typo. I am asking about the Dual processor P6DBE not the single processor P6SBE. Thanks Ed

    SCSI or Fasttrak66

No ideas right off as to why the trouble with your two existing drives. If I read your message correctly the drives are not identical. Promise recommends identical drives. My drives are identical and I have not had any trouble with them. There is a setting in the Fasttrak BIOS that sets the DMA burst rate. Default is Auto. Turbo forces the fastest rate and the manual says to use the Fast setting for reliable opeeration. Hope this helps. Ed

    SCSI or Fasttrak66

Page 3-3 in my Fasttrak66 Manual says: "The FastTrak66 is bootable with a SCSI controller in the system. The adapter with the lower BIOS address will be bootable. If it is necessary to change the boot sequence, swap the FastTrakk66 PCI slot position with that of the SCSI card's PCI slot." In your case of having an onboard SCSI controller you may not be able to change the boot order. The suggestion above to disable the Boot part of the SCSI bios may be a solution but other than tha I don't know. I have tried my Fasttrak with a Tekram 390F that I am currently using and also with an Adaptec 1520b ISA. I am not able to boot from SCSI (meaning the Fasttrak) with the Adaptec controller installed because the system BIOS finds the ISA based controller before the PCI based Fasttrak and therefore insists that there is no bootable device found. I had to purchase a PCI based SCSI controller to get around that problem. Ed

    SCSI or Fasttrak66

Having both of them can be nearly impossible. I have both SCSI and Fasttrak and have found that the Fasttrak MUST be loaded first in the bootup sequence. What I mean is that the Fasttrak BIOS needs to load before the SCSI BIOS. Since the Fasttrak is seen as a SCSI device even though it isn't, the BIOS of the computer boots from whichever SCSI device it sees first. As to the Ultra66 drivers loaded: www.promise.com/techsupport/Notes/windows_2000_rc2_installation_FT66.htm Ed

Any good cheap SCSI card recommendations?

I use a Tekram 390F that I paid about $60 US for. I use it exclusively for my Plextor 32x reader and my Plextor 4x CDR. Works great and it is natively supported by Win2k. Ed
  12. I have a company laptop with NT 4.0 SP5. I want to make an image of the hard drive so if/when I screw something up I can restore it to its original state. System specs are as follows: Compaq Armada M700 P2-366 128meg RAM 8.0g hd external CDrom unknown NIC unknown modem Any suggestions? I am thinking that I can image it off through my network with Ghost and then burn it to CD but I am not sure if I can access the external CD from a dos prompt nor do I know if I can access the NIC from a dos prompt. Thanks for your help. Ed

  14. Even the best Fiber optic cable has attenuation loss at some wavelength. For instance, most fiber optic cable utilized in CATV applications using a 1330nm wavelength has an attenuation factor of about 0.4dB per km. So there is no way that the "light will go on forever". However, depending on the strength of the light inserted from your laser, it may go on for a while. Ed

    CRC errors with Zip archives

Are these files all under 1.44 meg? If so , I beleive that you need to copy each of them to individual floppies with the volume names of the floppy something like pkback#001, pkback#002 etc. What it seems to be is a single file zipped so as to span multiple floppy disks, you d/loaded each file and now you need to put them back onto floppies. Higher FPS in Q3A with r_smp 1.

Seems about right. Depends on your resolution and detail levels. Mine seems to only go up by about 5 fps. TNT2 non-ultra.

    USB in Win2k?

I have the BP6 (actually two systems with that board) and neither on will work correctly ie: just like everyone elses. I cannot get ACPI to work on either one (even with the QQ BIOS) and I cannot get MPS 1.4 to work with USB. Supposedly the QQ BIOS fixes the problems with ACPI and MPS 1.4 but there are still problems with mine. Ed
  18. I don't know how to disable the HLT instruction but have you tried running one of those background tasks such as Seti@home or the RC5 client? Either off these tasks basically use the CPU whenever it is NOT being used by anything else so practically eliminate the HLT instruction. When I look at my system idle process under task manager in the last 72 hrs of running time there have been 71.32.14 hrs of RC5 client and 1.12.43 of system idle process. Ed
  19. If it is any consolation, I have the same trouble. So far I have found no solution but I am wondering if it may be that I created some of these documents under Win98 and now I am logged in as Administrator on my Win2k machine. Could it be looking for the "name" of the creator but finding Administrator? Ed

Anyone get soldier of fortune to work?

I have had no trouble with the demo with either of the two video cards I have tried. (Viper V770 and Voodoo3 2000). From what others have said (search) it seems to depend on the video drivers used. I used the 3.66 drivers for my TNT2 if I remember correctly. Also you will want to make sure that no other apps are running as background tasks (ie: Seti@home, RC5 etc.) Ed

    Sound in DOS Games

I had no trouble downloading the Soundfx NT 1.08 file from the downloads page. I have not tried to use it so I cannot say that it works under 2000 but I have used it under NT and it works there. Ed

ata/66 raid card mass storage controller

My Fasttrak66 works just fine with the instructions from the Promise website. I have learned the following over the number of times I have reinstalled Win2k. You have to edit every instance of the txtsetup.sif file on your harddrive. This has to be done by booting with a boot disk during the first reboot that the installation does. It seems to vary as to number but there are always either 2 or 3 places where this file appears. First is c:\ the second in $win_nt$.~bt and the third if it there is in c:\$win_nt$.~ls\i386. Make sure to edit each one to remove any line that includes the word ultra66 (there are 4 lines) Then reboot and hit the F6 key to specify SCSI drivers and use the Promise disk for your drivers. I have found that I cannot use ACPI enabled in the BIOS. I do not have a BE6 but a BP6 dual celeron setup. Ed
