    Ensoniq ES1371 problems

Theres much confusion over the actual drivers that are supposed to be used. There are updated win2k creative drivers for SBAudioPCI, which should be (I assume) for the ensoniq PCI creative labs labeled cards? I have a SBPCI64v which has the ES1371, and it uses the "Creative AUDIOPCI (ES1371, ES1373) WDM" MS-Supplied drives and the mic works fine. The new drivers also work but the tvtuner volume slider disapeared Check the recording mixer is either using SUM or the mix is selected as the input, and the volume levels are up.

300MHz Min for software DVD is bull****

UPDATE! I installed directx8 today, ammongst other things and I've noticed that the DVD is much better today. Goodnews. Its not perfect, but good enough to watch. Its either DX8, or the Anti-spam app I installed. (I think the latter )

    a stable mobo 4 k6-2?

My 503+ is limited to 400Mhz too, but who cares? If you get the right type of K6-2, then it will work. Most of the newer 500+ ones have lower current drains, than the 400-500 CPUs due to smaller/newer cores. Try it. I've used a 450 (dead now due to experimental alterations )and it was rock solid, along with my current 550.

Taking k6-2 cap of processor, help warmth problem?

It certainly cooled my K6-2 down when i ripped off a capacitor along with the case! One day I'll find another that looks similar, and also have a welding torch as the solder they're stuck on with is not like the normal stuff. Just be careful, don't go to far inside. the rim of the lid. If you do it you'll find that there is no where to put the heatsink as the capacitors and the center protrude, and you can't just stick it on top. I'd recomend you use thermal gue to fill in the spaces then stick it back on. As you'll find out, they don't exactly use much glue to stick it down. one day capacitor, one day!

I just quick-formatted the wrong HD!

quick format just deletes the file allocation table, theres usually at least 4 copies of this (i think) just find some sort of app to recover this. For now unplug the drive so it doesn't back up the blank fat over the ones with the actual directories and files! I recovered that before but can't remember the app, is a demo i think. another way is to corrupt the first fat table, and scan disk will use a backup to repair it. Good luck (you'll need it)

300MHz Min for software DVD is bull****

Sanvic: Win98 softDVD works in my PC too (Perfectly), but the PC overheats after 30 mins. I have a 300 Mhz K6-2 also and it plays dvd's. Were talking about win2k here. Others: I'm basically talking about how kack win2k is at audio\video in some aspects [ good a/v is cubase VST ]. Also my PC is loaded to the max. And thus is difficult to maintain in win98, what with its pityful IRQ routing problems, Not to mention that fact that it must be in ACPI mode for win2k, but doesn't work in ACPI with '98. The softDVD in win2k is @ 100% CPU, and it's really jerky, and I can't figure out why. What help is it to say "well it works for me".

I'd definetly blame the K6-2 as they're crap, along with the SS7 mobo. Next upgrade is scheduled for after the summer when I start back at uni, and get a student loan, should be about £800 I'll probably get a K7 something or other. As for the DVD deck, I'm getting one this week but sadly its for someones birthday, so it'll reside in the lounge. A flatscreen TV is way way way out of the picture money wise, but instead the local superstore (Tesco) has a special deal with www.Wharfedale.co.uk where there are widescreen TV's going for £200. Good part (I think) is you can change it from Letterbox (default) to Anamorphic, so you don't lose any detail/quality in stretching etc. I expect my PC to do everything, and it nearly does, this DVD watching problem and my other WinTV issue (no overlay) are the only problems I have with NT5. [as well as my PSX dual shock not working in NT5 ] Ps has anyone had problems with WinDVD. It seams to make my PC reset during boot, thus resulting in 2 re-installs, and thats bad going by my standards as I can usually fix everything. But hey, its pretty stupid to re-install something that f^"^%$& the system up first time, isn't it? Need Help with Win2k Crashes

I got similar errors after installing WinDVD. The installation failed due to a corrupt file, but it reset the PC anyway and made a mess. The only way to undo it was to re-install.

    Modem probs need help desperatly

If Win2k is in ACPI mode set it to "Standard PC", also use standard modem (for standard AT commands) if there are no specific drivers.

300MHz Min for software DVD is bull****

Don't know what the problem is but now the DVD refuses to mount my one and only dual layer DVD "the matrix", other single layer and double sided single layer seem to work fine. It lasted at least 45 mins this time in win98. I definetly think heat is a problem in win98, I deleted Rain as win2k doesn't need it, anyone know where to get it? With win2k the DVD is just to jerky to watch it runs for a half second smooth, jumps a bit then smooth again, it makes me dizzy to be honest. But the sound is perfect, apart from that "running water like sound" that the Mpeg compression seems to make in the low noise background areas. Maybe a limiter would be useful to cut it out. Then again its probably my crappy PC

Sell up and get either a oldish AMD K7, or a celeron. I must admit SS7 has had its day.

    DirectPad Pro

its a shame isn't, the driver uses a VXD which win2k won't touch with a barge pole [thats a long stick used to push canal barges, for u un educated US people ] I've looked in vain, but have downloaded the source code, all I need to do now is figure out how to program the parallel port in win2k, and how to make Dinput drivers for win2k. And what the hell are C++ classes and function type stuff?? Can it be that hard? (yes!) I actually got so deprived of a joypad that I tried to re-install win98, but after all the bios updates and stuff, plus not being able to remember the correct order of the many, many patches, it failed miserably. The OS just hanged, BSOD'd, and reset... Funny that Beos, Caldera eDesktop, QNX, and win2k are running flawlessly. ------------------ System Spec: FIC VA-503+ 1.1b bios JE438 CPU Current Limiter Disabled AMD K6-2 550 (300 when I talk to FIC tech support) 128Mb SSi PC100 STB Velocity 4400 16Mb PAL TV-Out Hauppauge Wintv Realtek 8029 LAN Creative ES1371 (PCI64v) 56.6K (AkA 44k) ISA Modem Creative 48mx CDROM Memorex TriMaxx200(DVD/CDR/CDRW, 6,4,24) Maxtor 91301U3 13Gb LS120 and com and lpt i/o conflict error during bios startup. I can't believe nobody knows why Cd-Rom Drives Disappear fro

Maybe the controller on one of the Cdroms has died or "partially" died. The reason I say this is because I've been through 2 keyboards, and 2 CDroms that for some reason decided they stopped working on my PC, yet when tested on other PC's they worked fine. A while back I had a Creative 24mx CDROM that decided it would only work if it was set to master and there was no slave connected. Yet before it threw a wobbly it had been happy and content with its other harddrive friend. Sadly I had to give it up for adoption in another PC, and pay for a new baby to be smuggled in from Romania; Err, I mean Taiwan.

Hardware Overlay on a damn PCI WinTV

The only reason I use Win2000 is cause it doesn't crash when watching TV(and working). Thing is though, I haven't seen overlay mode work since about a week after I bought it, and upgraded to a TNT (jan '99). Few days back I bought a maxtor tri-maxx (DVD-Rom,CDR,CDRW and not fried a cd yet in 6X mode) Downloaded PowerDVD, and it instantly kicked into hardware overlay. I was not impressed (with my PC) that wintv never does it. To make matters worse caldera eDesktop was kind enough to pre-install xawtv and it to worked in overlay mode, another double blow for haupaugge/MS/Nvidia. First time to see my TV card work in linux, and with overlay! I just want sh"£&*ing Overlay. Using latest Nvidia Beta 5.16 win2K final k6-2 550 fic va503+ 1.1b JE438 128MB SDRAM Velocity 4400 AGP 16MB Wintv PCI 406, PAL locale, latest drivers Realtek ne2000 Creative PCI64 ES1371 (spdif connections anyone?) 21. Use dos disk/win9x dos mode to do "fdisk /mbr" or use bootpart to repair the bootsector then use bootpart www.winimage.com to add linux to the NT bootmenu if U want

I can't believe nobody knows why Cd-Rom Drives Disappear fro

Drives? Have you just installed a new CDRom? And presumably kept the old one. 1. Make sure that there are no more than two devices on each IDE cable (long flat grey ribbin cable). 2. Make sure on the IDE cable that the edge with the red line is nearest the power connector on both the drives, it can be the other way round if the cable is plugged in to the motherboard the other way! 3. The drives have jumpers in which you can remove and plug in to the separate rows of pins not part of the IDE socket. They will probably be marked MA/SL/CA and their will most likely be a sticker on the top highlighting this. On each grey cable (or IDE channel as its known) one drive should be Master (MA) and the other must be Slave (SL). You can't have both being the same, unless one is connected to the other grey cable. Try changing a jumper in one of the drives from master-to-slave or vice-versa. 4. Make sure the cables are correctly inserted, and agligned properly so that there aren't any pins showing at the edges Check this out for a graphical help... http://techadvice.com/support/atlas/atlas_cdrom-drive_install.htm

anyone know of a program like this?

I'll never get cable, asdl, isdn where i live (scotland, UK) but I might just move 1 mile down the road where they have it all. (all to do with population density V size of garden, or yard as you call it) :-) Look/search for a modem that supports "call waiting". found these: http://www.actiontec.com/products/modems/cwusb/index.html http://www.extremehw.com/reviews/misc/actiontec/index.html hope this helps.

don't you want ASDL? Surf the net, whilst using the phone?
  25. I just ran a defrag on my 12gb partition and it said at the end that it didn't process practically all of my large zip files, and especially my Quake 3 pak file. At 450 Megs it has, get this over 1600 fragmentations, and didn't unfragment it. I had to move it to another folder then delete the old one then move it back to reduce the fragmentation. How do you make it process everything?
