I've made 2 patches for the euro retail version, and one for the V3 patch from www.motorhead.org which will work on all versions. Get them at www.euankirkhope.freeserve.co.uk and see if they work. Read the instructions!

I used i5comp to extract the files from the installshied setup (contained in data1.cab). And it runs perfectly with no registry settings imported. I have tried the same with the V3 patch, which works on all versions, but its more complicated due to the 6 or so different versions, I'll need to decompile the installer to see what it does for each version. So i might just remove the winnt detection stuff. Run dxdiag.exe and make sure everything is working.

If its a hardware problem, start up in safe mode, goto hardware devices, and delete any thing relevant, then reboot, set bios "reset configuration data" to enabled, and restart windows. Win2k may have disabled the device, or its host controller. Probably its software, so I guess if the systems knackered anyway, a quick look through regedit would be fun. Delete in local machine/system/current hardware/services all the adaptec, aspi, buslogic... then search for the system drivers delete then, then reinstall your current drivers before rebooting. (you don't want win to say missing files) Which you'll probably get anyway. If it were me I would have used my system backup from a clean install, but I guess most people don't have that.

maybe the agp memory functions just don't work properly. The agp port is a 64-bit pci slot with a few tweaks and different pinout. If you look carefully you will see it is identified in device manager as Location (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0, where as standard PCI devices are listed as Location (PCI bus 0, device 9, function 1) etc.

thats a hard one, its dead easy with win9x. So; run regedit and search for the modes that don't work like 640,480 or 800,600 note the comma is the separator, not an 'x' etc. Also maybe you monitor is not setup right. Lots of people find that they can't change there monitor, so search for monitor*.inf in the registry where * is a number starting from 1 Perhaps that is because you have a PNP monitor. and it has been properly detected? If so try searching for MonitorClassInstaller and just mess about with the settings, also try disabling DPMS. Some monitors take ages to switch res, (like mine).
-
Try just removing the Pci card next to your agp card then in the bios enabling "reset configuration data" Sometimes the agp card demands that another card is not using the same irq. In this configuration that is garanteed not to happen.

With win9x I'd go through about 1 harddrive a year. Each one ending up more pitted than a monkeys arse. However with my mobo fic 503+ when the system goes into suspend it doesn't wakeup. The remedy: Disable suspend and use hibernation instead, not too much of a speed difference, and it saves even more power.

Most (nee all) brooktree chips are reverse compatible to the BT848, so thats not really a problem, the difficult part is the sound demodulation, and the type of tuner. If you know the type of tuner (mine is a philips) and wheter you have an external sound decoder (like a MSP34xx for Nicam/Stereo) you may need to do a bit of extra investigation, also these details are sometimes stored in an eeprom. Unfortunately, I think its most likely there aren't any generic drivers for NT4/5 as its more complicated than others OS's. Additionally I would also expect that comercial drivers have PCI ID's hardwired inside the drivers, not just within the driver inf, for detecting whether you've got the right card. If your capable, just steal some open source from linux and make your own driver :-) It won't do any harm however to try try again.

Dual boot now with WinNT/Win2k, would like to change to win9
euankirkhope replied to Tim Bazzinett's topic in Hardware
1. just delete winnt folder and its associated folders 2. install win9x 3. then use bootpart.exe a utility for changing the bootmenu, to restore the NT bootloader get it at http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm -

Has anyone found new drivers, or even better made new ones to get the PSX joypads, or other console pads working in Win2K, using the parallel port, or Usb?

People who are having the Black screen/4 meg apeture problem
euankirkhope replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
I have a FIC va503+ v 1.1b bios JK4324, and had the blank screen problem for ages, then I figured it out. Now it works perfectly in ACPI mode with the few simple rules: PCI slot 1 must not be used. Com ports don't work in ACPI. AGP just doen't work. Before, only up to 3.66 on my TNT worked, I have a Hauppauge WinTV in PCI Slot 1, and it worked until i switched to the 5.13 drivers, now the TNT is fully operational (AGP system is mobo side) the TNT uses the interupt exclusively, so if I try to use the TV card the system hangs instantly, bearing in mind that PCI1 and AGP port are IRQ- hardwired. I don't care about this, or the Com ports as I knackered them by installing a different PCB version Bios (1.2), and have skipped the bios error by setting "halt on no errors", but they still work in win9x regardless. The bios says "i/o conflict xxx xxx xxx" it can't be fixed apparently Stb Velocity 4400 AGP 16Mb FIC va503+ v 1.1b bios JK4324 w/ current limiter disabled 450 AHX K6-2 Wintv realtek 8029 SB PCI64 Isa int modem (com 2) Overall if you follow these rules the system will work most of the time! I tried it again by completely re-installing after a Partition overlap error, caused a drive overhaul, and I even got the MS drivers to work first time, amazing. And its been faultless since (unless I want to use my MU100r serial midi link or watch tv), and I hope you've all downloaded Beos V5. It loads in 20 seconds and everything works, as soon as opengl and the new networking is shortly released it will be the future OS of choice. Its a Mac with out the Mac! -
Just cant get 5.13 to work and what happened to the search f

Loads of people have suffered the exact same thing. It seams to caused by the PCI IRQ routing, and/or the AGP driver. If you have a card in PCI slot 1 remove it, go into the bios setup and select "reset configuration" to enabled or similar. Then restart. Reload the drivers, if necessary. If this still doesn't work, then try the 3.66 version, these don;t have D3D and AGP, but opengl and DDraw work perfectly, and are like minimum support drivers, but have the best compatibilty. If all else doen't work then use the NT4 latest drivers, these don't bring any of the problems such as AGP, D3D and IRQ Sharing If non of the above work, delete w2k, and re-install with with no other PCI card installed, (put them back in after, the card starts working) Update your bios, disable ACPI... are things you'll probably also have tried, so I won't mention them -
Yeah that sounds about right, as its the only DX file DXdiag seems to think is missing, thinking back i'm sure it was on beta 3.... However I got round that problem by not starting the game with the setup program "grim.exe", and instead started with "grim fandango.exe". It was then I was hit by a "max No of files cached error" (roughly translated from tech talk). I fixed this by getting the official update. Now it loads, and the video intro is perfect, and the game appears to run perfectly. However it then jumps out with no error message usually during a scene change, like leaving a room etc. The quest continues... ps I'm writing this using BeOS and its £^"king excellent!

That's a common IE phenomenom, its not the video card doing something wrong, its IE4/5 giving it bad data.

Has anyone got the dpadpro drivers for console pads to install in W2K? Do u need a new inf or something?
-
ditch D3d, and use NT4 drivers, where the opengl will work

What would happen if you..... (deep thought)... please read

IF you use Eribium Doped Fibre Amplifiers, the light could go on for ever with out having to be amplified through electronic circuits (which slows it down big style). Erbium had the distinct properties of having a 3 level energy state: Code: E2 --------- E1 -------- ----->980nm ---> = -----> (amplification) -----> E0 ------------------ (sorry if the diagram screwed up, trying code this time) Photons = ---> Photon Energy E1-E0 = 1550nm (the TX wavelength) Now with a fibre and laser at 1550nm if you couple the 980 laser into the main fibre, by means of the Evanescent field (electromagnetic field generated by the photon, as the light is reflected back into the fibre, it actually momentarilly protrudes the fibre), the 980 laser (pump photons)will then exite the electrons in the Erbium to move up to E2 from E0, but they quickly drop to E1 in a rapid non-radiative transistion, this creates a population inversion, and as the 1550nm light passes through the medium, spontaneos emmision of photons occurs as the E1 electrons drop down to E0, thus amplifing the original signal by up to 30dB (1000x). And while still traveling the speed of light! Using the above and Wave Division Multiplexing you can get 3.2Tb/s (terra) down one fibre (IE the width of a hair, and done in recent AT+T research). However there are important issues with wrapping that fibre around the world, and that is the Br.L factor. As the link length increases the bit rate will go down due to the effect of Pulse Spreading, where the original short pulse becomes widened in time, thus you have to slow down the bit rate or you lose the definition of each pulse. Sounds like your monitor's knackered. Try changing the monitor timing settings in the other options box in the the nvidia control panel. As older (high end) monitors like mine behave better with DMT, rather than GTF

There's an app called tvtool, it may have been updated to support win2k, it allows you to use higher res (for PAL), and change the overscan settings etc. For me I have a set velocity 4400 and the nvidia tv tool has never worked. Also now that for the first time d3d is working, it isn't really all that good on my computer. Is this cause AGP still doesn't work (via MVP3 on a FIC503+), I've noticed recently, even with win98 that everything is going all jerky and the sound changes pitch with the complexity of the scene being rendered, especially shadowman (it works in win2k now too). Any ideas?

Check http://www.modem-help.freeserve.co.uk/index.html for the definitive list of modems Also check the Fcc ID to find the real manufacturer if its been relabeled.

Scotland's much nicer! Move to Glasgow. BT will suck you dry. London pretty much has ASDL, cable, and stuff anyway. Stay away from something called homehighway (its just rewrapped isdn with a big price tag. I'm on x-stream this now and its not costing a penny (0800). Admittedly it does take ages to get connected, but as I'm downloading beos I dont want to raise my bill past £300 mark which its at Welcome

Has anyone tried the drivers from reactorcritical.com on a SS7 Mobo, or one that usually gives you a blank screen with practically all the drivers?
-
Yes I think your right, as I found that these drivers actually started up correctly, (minor miricle) and went straight into my usual high res mode, no blank screen. So the suspicion is that these are pre 3.66 drivers. I checked, and AGP is disabled, and D3D is greyed out. Also before the 502 in the file version it says .0327; so they're probably version 3.27... If you haven't got D3D to work don't worry thats very very common to alot of people, however opengl should be working, you can use the latest nvoglnt.dll file from the 3.81 version with no worries.
