Problems with Windows 2000 pro 2195 and Matrox G400, please
euankirkhope replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
Probably the drivers your using have enabled AGP, which is shaky to say the least. Try diabling AGP in DXDIAG.EXE, or else use an older driver that may not be at that stage yet. The alternative is to use NT4 drivers for ddraw and opengl at least. Thats a problem I've had with my TNT for ages, and only recently sussed out. I assuming your PCI slot 1 is next to the AGP port by the way The monitor selection thing will become usable when (if) you get out of VGA mode. goodluck -

ACPI doesn't work on FIC SS7 boards. Some bits will work, the IRQ routing won't and the com ports won't, even with the newest bios'. -

If you have a PCI device in slot 1 you have to remove it. (full stop). -
If you don't want to do the bios thing, disable ACPI, by up[censored] the drivers from the computer device in system properties (win+break) to "standard PC" which you'll find by picking it from the list of available devices after pressing "update driver"

"Critical Update" on winupdate site!!! Very strang
euankirkhope replied to Silent-IQ's topic in Hardware
Did anyone mention that the majority of mobos more than a year and a bit old don't have (very) good ACPI compatibility, and most mobo manufacturers have knocked up some "beta" bios that does nothing but knacker the system? In addition to the fact that M'£oft also assumed that anything with a bios newer than 1/1/99 was fully ACPI compliant, and then proceeded to installed a broken OS. Which then results in 1.1M posts saying what is ACPI, why don't my COM ports work, and why are all my thingy-ma-jigs on IRQ9? If PC's ditched half there legacy baggage they would fly along (without the need for plug-and-play, and ACPI. I'd just love it to be able to bypass the X86 to RISC stage on my AMD/CYRIX chip! signed: angry ss7 owner -
Doing it dos is safer, Simpler, sometimes faster, (and works when Windows doesn't)

Present for all VA-503+ mobo users, New Windows 2000 bios

NO! the JE vesions are for the 1.2 revision boards. It very important, they're not mixed! -
Try diabling IRQ routing and/or ACPI in system properties/computer by selecting update driver then select similar device... and install "standard PC", Reboot.

I've got the same problem. I believe its a Win2k network security issue, as although Net neighbourhood always says the network is not browsable, the modem sharing which is enabled in win2k works!
-
I'll second that! I use PQ5 dos on a LS120, although it should fit on a mimimal config dos bootdisk. It's one of the best utils ever.

I was thinking; before buying a new Video card cause win2k doesn't like my present one (blank screen under win2k drivers) that I'd flash/kill the bios with a different companies bios. Anyone tried this, or know of a similar bios. read the va-503+ faq: http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/faq/faqs01va-503+.htm and this is from the auto email reply: (10/12/99) JE4322 bios released to fix Win98 SE and Windows2000 ACPI mode error to report resource conflict on I/O port & printer port, and support Pioneer 103S 6X DVD as UDMA mode (most DVD-ROM also benefit from this update to be read as UDMA instead of PIO4). Ps The new bios fixes some win2k port error but not the bios POST i/o conflict that many poeple have. If you set bios to "halt on no errors", they still work in win9x, but are still unable to properly indentify the devices in win2k (see the event veiwer). You need to diable acpi. As for the black desktop, which I suffer from also, this is not fixed, and is a viatech/nvidia problem, if you have an STB or a diamond they'll probably be the last if at all to be fixed. Some work, some don't, and nobody cares -

What version is it? I've got JK4324 (for < v1.1b) and by accident JE4322 (for 1.2 > ) both dated 11/11/99 What does it do? -
Check your IRQ's disable acpi... The last time I saw win2k drivers work on my setup (similar to yours) was with beta3. Use the NT4 nvidia drivers as a emergency backup, they'll give you ddraw and hardware opengl. Nice!

This is microsoft your talking about.

A long shot is if you have d3d working (I don't) try the TV-Tool app from here: http://www.glideunderground.com/files/tvtool.zip I can't say if it works or not.

Your PC isn't ACPI compatible probably. All you need to do is get a bios update from compaq. Or go into system properties (win+break), and select hardware/device manager/computer and change computer type to standard PC (you'll find it by up[censored] the driver and clicking on "display a list of all known drivers..." then "show all hardware of this device class") The PC'll then redetect everything after a reboot and you'll also loose some power management stuff like hibernate! I'd prefer the bios update though. Although its a balance between knackering windows (reinstall), or knackering motherboard (bios update failure = boot block recovery or new mobo)

To Fozz Start up an MP3, press CTRL-P select output/waveout change sliders MAX blocks, Min + max size until crackling breaks stop. For buffer length you need to press stop then restart play. Sometimes its worse than usual, and the settings need to be completely changed for no apparent reason!

Yes I've found this too with my system. I get it even when I move the mouse, if the volume is up relatively high (much worse than win98). To minimise it try disbling the GUI effects in the display settings, like fading menus, full window drag etc. With Winamp I found that setting the buffer size to 1! worked brilliantly. Nvidia drivers and ALi or Via chipsets in win2k. any success
euankirkhope replied to Narmacil's topic in Hardware
Nvidia's latest NT4 drivers are perfect for Ddraw and opengl, but no d3d. -
Oh and even if i remove everything except the TNT, it still doesn't work in ACPI/nonACPI modes!

My PC used to love IRQ 11, untill a bios update, where its now not so bad! But still is bad enough for the tnt not to work. See my system below: To fix: enter system properties and select device manager. Select computer (the first one) dbl click Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Select driver/update/next/"select from list" the install Standard PC. Restart! Usually this is a one way process My PC: FIC va-503+ 1.1b bios jk4324 11/11/99 (Via MVP3) k6-2 450 (with I limiter disabled) IRQ Number Device 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System 9 Unsupported VIA USB Universal Host Controller 10 NVIDIA RIVA TNT 10 Hauppauge Win/TV 878/9 VFW Audio Driver 14 Primary IDE Channel 15 Secondary IDE Channel 11 Hauppauge Win/TV 878/9 VFW Video Driver 11 Realtek RTL8029(AS)-based PCI Ethernet Adapter 11 Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) 13 Numeric data processor 8 System CMOS/real time clock 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard 3 Communications Port (COM4) I still use ACPI cause i don't care about D3D, and the hibernate function is cool, NT4 opengl was always better anyway.

Nvidia drivers and ALi or Via chipsets in win2k. any success
euankirkhope replied to Narmacil's topic in Hardware
Try using NT4 drivers. I've got a FIC va-503+, Stb velocity 4400 (TNT) and have never got any of the win2k drivers to work. The latest release of the nvidia NT4 drivers are perfect for ddraw and opengl. Also make sure you graphics card has an IRQ using the system info console, and also make sure that there are no more than 2 devices using the same interrupt. If you find you have all of the PCI devices on the same irq you have a problem. -
First of all diable UDMA!, and give win2k a try There is bios error in 1.15/4.51 award bios' where because the bios knows about udma66 (ata 4 in startup usually (edit)), and allows drives's to use it, even if the motherboard chipset doesn't. Secondly, if any of the HD's are UDMA 66 move all udma hd's onto the one cable, and make sure you have an 80-wire cable. If your other HD isn't udma33, then don't move your setup. If you dont have the proper cable you will get data corruption due to noise, therefore do not use UDMA66. If you can't force UDMA33 in bios it must be diabled totally. Technically the IBM if it's 15 GB it probably is UDMA66. I used to get an error similar to that, but got a bios update to diable UDMA66 in the bios. Now my UDMA66 drive is just in UDMA33 mode. Anyone running Win2k Pro on a K6-2 450, 128 megs sdram? How
euankirkhope replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
Quick cut and paste of fic automated response with some slightly interesting stuff: http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/VA-503+.htm http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/pa-2013.htm Here are two popular FIC models' support page, user can get first aid under each's FAQ, if your model is different, all you need is replace model name after last slash, for example VB-601 user replace it as http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/motherboards/pentium/vb-601.htm Y2K & Extended INT13 issue, update bios can be found under our FTP server each model subdir. ATA/66 HD and VIA miniport driver IRQ routing issue is post on FAQ. My bios settings conflict at 2F8 and even when it is changed win98 does not recognize the mouse which is pc2. Please try to enter bios to load everything in default and reboot again, or use flash program bundel with original bios to flash bios again with /cc /cd to force bios reset totally again. it is CMOS parameter mis interpret with new bios issue, CMOS must update to correct it. All bios released for VA-503+ are not compliant to ACPI, please do not install win98 with /P/J or it will report COM & LPT error. Both Siemen & Micron SDRAM has compatible issue with our VA-503+ & PA-2013. our engineer is studing now. Before any update for this issue please avoid these two brands of SDRAM.(7/16/99) (10/12/99) JE4322 bios released to fix Win98 SE and Windows2000 ACPI mode error to report resource conflict on I/O port & printer port, and support Pioneer 103S 6X DVD as UDMA mode (most DVD-ROM also benefit from this update to be read as UDMA instead of PIO4). Note this is primarily for the VA-503+ mobo i think. The bios I have is actually JK4324 which is similar to the one mentioned above.
