Which file should i keep if i change my Windows 98 hard disc
Ronin replied to gluev's topic in Hardware
Your first hard drives contains the master boot record so you can't just copy some files to another drive and things just keep working. A couple of questions. 1. What hard drive does W2K reside on? 2. Why are you wanting to change your primary hard drive. 3. Are you wanting to get rid of Win98? At this time the best thing for you to do, so as you don't lose anything would be to use a program like Drivecopy or partition magic to move the partition to another one. As much info as you can give us will make this an easy transition. -

No more driver problems with the GeForce. Of course, the Radeon is different. No driver updates as such anyway so I may have the same troubles if/when there are new drivers for it. Ed</font> Ok??? Am I reading that right? You got rid of your Nvidia card in favor of an ATI card because you where having drivers problems and where to lazy to figuire it out. You need help... hehe

If someone knew or cared they would post the info. Chill out!

Has anyone successfully used Partition Magic 6.0 to convert an NTFS partition in W2K to FAT32? Before I attempt to convert my c drive to fat32 and lose everything because something goes wrong I would like to know if anyone has done it. You ask why I would do this. Well I want to dual boot Linux and W2K without having to use a boot disk to start Linux, well I can use Bootmagic as long as I have a fat32 partition on my master hard drive. …

I'm curious, They say when you encode an MP3 from a cd or other form that you remove the part(s) of music that you can not hear. So with that in mind when decide you want to decode the music back to the form used for music cds, are the parts that where removed put back? If could just be me, but it seems that after decoding them so I can burn a music cd the music sounds much better than a store bought cd? Your thoughts??

Normally I would run right out and get one, but buying one of these cards does not make any sense. Until Doom3 comes out which I heard is not multiplayer, (can anyone confirm this?) I think I’ll just stick with my GF2 Ultra card. Considering the card is just as fast as a regular Geforce 2, but it does have some new technology built in. Unless Counter-Strike is going to look better which it won’t, I just don’t see wasting your money. Also in 6 months we will see the Ultra version come out and by the end of the year Nvidia will have released or about to there next generation card. Not a good buy at this time. Your thoughts?

I would like to know if anyone has had any luck overclocking there GF2 Ultra card and having the settings stay after they reboot. Seems that no matter what program I use to overclock my Elsa Geforce 2 Ultra card the settings will just not stay after I reboot. I never had any problems with my GF2 GTS card. I have tried all the drivers and even power-strip 2.78,3.0 beta and all the other programs that allow you to overclock. If you don't have and Ultra card or don't know how to fix my problem, please don't waste your time trying to help me fix my problem because I have tried everything I know of and have tried other peoples suggestions even though they don't have an Ultra card. I'm looking for some place online to pick up rounded scsi cables. I may make them myself but I would like to find a place online. The only places I have found sell the IDE cables. Anyone know where I can pick them up? Please leave a URL. Thanks...

Overclocking a dualie system is no problem and as long and the board supports it and the chips support it. I have a friend who's overclocking 2 733/133's to 1047 on a dual via board. As far as my box goes, it's my home computer and no I'm not running IIS on it, that's what Linux is for. hehe ...

Why are you asking? But I will say that this is the only place I come for info or to post a thread.
-
I don't really know, but I installed it and started have problems. So I did a clean install and now I'm back to SP1. I would suggest that unless you are having major issues that can't be resolved with normal driver updated and what not, to just stick with SP1. I'm still running SP5 on my NT 4.0 servers in my datacenter without any problems and you can download SP6a. Unless you have major issues you think may be resolved then there is not reason to upgrade.

Another thing, I wish we could say some of the words that this board likes to cut off. I don't get it.. Is this a family site? And what about INFOPOP, the people who write the software for this board, I wish they would add a spell check feature. ...

I'm still the man. just kidding...NOT! Everyone knows I'm a nice guy, unless you start *****ing about your SB Live card not working and that the card sucks. Hey let's get that thread started again. hehe

Well the whole idea about this thread was just so everyone would pimp my system. Because when you look at the entire picture, everyone should just BOW!! to me.. This is all in fun guys so don't think I'm trying to be a jerk. Who's the master? hehe

A Viewsonic PF815 will do it...

I have 27gig of MP3's I ripped the majority of them from my ex-girl friends cd collection. Two weeks before she moved out I had every cd she had on my desk, around 400 and I was a ripping fool, the rest I got from LAN parties or off napster. So you can see why having a raid volume will help in not losing them.
-
I'm always windows shopping. I just picked up 2 more Maxtor 60gig drives and an IDE raid 5 controller card. Now I will have a Raid 5 volume to store all 30gig of mps files I have, and won't have to worry about losing anything. I just hope I don't lose 2 drives at once or I'm f*ucked. Maybe I'll pick a forth one up soon. But I think oxide wanted to start some s*hit that's why he made such a stupid comment about his system. Think we may have JDmuldges twin.. hehe

LOL - "HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS WINS" But it should read "HE WHO DIES WITH THE BEST COMPUTER WINS" I don't need the systems I have. I just have the money to spend on it. There is nothing like going to a LAN party or having friends over and have then say WOW!!! that is the **** ...If you spent 400 on a box and it works for ya then fine, but me I can't have that. The problem is that I'm around fast computers all day so I see what they can do and that is why I have a server class machine at home. Spend some time around the latest stuff and you will spend the money to. Here are my current specs, and as soon as Intel get's off there *** and releases a mb with dual P4 support I will have one, oh I'm sorry 2...hehe ------------------ My W2k & Whistler System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB Onboard Intel 82559 NIC 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W 1 - Maxtor 60 Gig (IDE) SB Live Platinum 5.1 Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Elsa Gladiac Ultra 64 Meg Dual V2 Cards, for D2 Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor ... I have an Elsa Gladiac Ultra card and when I enable the coolbits feature and try to overclock the card it will not keep the settings after a reboot. Now I don't even think the overclocking feature works because I can set the memory/chip clock to the max and the card should crash and not work at all but it seems to work fine but I see no difference in FPS. Now before you say anything I'm using the 6.49 drivers and these drivers overclocked my Geforce 2 card without a problem and the settings stayed in place even after a reboot. Any ideas, or another program I could use. Power Strip 2.78 does not work for overclocking the ultra card but it works ok for the Geforce 2 card? Driver suggestions another program for overclocking would be great if anyone has an ideas.
