Wow!!! for once someone backed me up. I've had lots of luck with overclocking. But when thing lock up and you have problems it's always best to put the orginal seetings back in place and see if you are still have problems. If that don't help then you need to look at what other things may be causing your problems. Why overclock a 700 anyways there can't be that much advantage in doing so. Have you tried going back to original settings? ...

Just stop overclocking and things will work fine.

Don't cut the connector off! That connector is used by a lot of highend motherboards. It allows you to add additional power to the MB. Just go out and purchase Y-Connectors to add additional power for hardware. You can get rid of it, but you may need it down the road, you never know. ...

I would just leave things as they are. W2K manages memory very well. If you are not going to use a printer you could disable the spooler and the messenger service is not needed. But all in all just leaving things as they are is the best way to go. ...

What sound card are you using? My SB Live card has the same problem, but only at bootup so I disabled the startup sounds and after the os loads the sound goes to it's preset level. Maybe a driver update will help, but knowing what sound card you have will help us to help you. ...

And as I have said a million times before. The problems people are having are not related directly to one piece of hardware. My point has always been that if the majority or people are not having problems then your focus needs to be on what hardware you have in your system. There is no way for creative to make drivers that will work with every combination you people throw at there sound cards. Taking a look at what hardware you have in your system and what other people have with a problem like this is the best way to go. I would say that most of the problems that people are having are motherboard related. The reason I say my **** always works is because I do research before I buy somthing. If you buy a half-ass mb then you are going to have a problem somewhere down the road. I would recomend people stick with Abit,Asus,Tyan,Supermicro, something along those lines. Borrow other people system specs and put them to use making your **** work right. If you think by posting a message on this BB that someone is going to have some magical fix to your sound problems or any other hardware problem you are just plain stupid. Creative and all other hardware makers are not reading these post going ok we need to modify the drivers to work with this guys MB. If you can't get something to work then find something that will. I'm sorry for posting my system specs, maybe I like the fact that I have worked very hard for what I have and rubbing it in others faces is not what I have in mind. The frustration level people have here regarding there hardware problems is insane. Find something else that works or quit your *****in because it's not going to change a thing. ...

Just use an AT power supply, they don't require the motherboard to turn on or off. Or just buy a 400W ATX power supply and eliminate the need for a second power supply. ... ------------------ My Windows 2000 System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB Onboard Intel 82559 NIC 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W 1 - Maxtor 60 Gig (IDE) SB Live Platinum Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Hercules Geforce 2 64meg Dual V2 Cards, for D2 Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor ... What do you mean by severely inhibits game perforance??? I have been running Power DVD 2.5 for months and have not had any problems playing games. The software does not have anything to do with playing games. All it does is play your dvd movies. More info on where you heard that would be helpfull.

the i840 - end of the road...beginning of the hell for the p
Ronin replied to arcus's topic in Hardware
I got the e-mail you sent, but that is just from Tyan. Like I said you are the only person I know who has (on this mb) had any problems with that mainboard. The way I see it, if there was such a huge problem with the i840 as there was with the i820 chip then we would here about it all over the net. Tyan's web site is not saying anything about the problem not to mention that there will not be any support for the 2400 like you say. I do care that people have problems but when just a few people are having problems with a motherboard that does not mean when you say in your original post that the end is near for the i840 are we all to just rush find out what the problem is. I like clean hard facts and so far all I have is an e-mail and you saying that there is a problem with the 2400. I'll still wait and see if something happens but it did not take long for the problems with the i820 to surface and the i840 has been out for the same amount of time. Like I said I will play the wait and see but I don't see a recall happening just because of a few isolated problems. If your statement and the e-mail turn out to be true then I will have no problems admiting that I was an idiot. But I don't see that ever happening. I just don't open my mouth about something unless I know it to be true and Tyan tech support and an e-mail is not proof that there will be a recall. ... -
nagual gaygorce2????? What is that all about, you must be kidding.... Go with the video card if you want to play games, but beware you won't see much of a performance increase since you cpu with be the bottleneck of your entire system. I would just save enough money and buy both items at the same time. ... ------------------ My Windows 2000 System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB Onboard Intel 82559 NIC 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W 1 - Maxtor 60 Gig (IDE) SB Live Platinum Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Hercules Geforce 2 64meg Dual V2 Cards, for D2 Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor ... the i840 - end of the road...beginning of the hell for the p
Ronin replied to arcus's topic in Hardware
It's been 2 weeks since Arcus told everyone that Intel was going to pull the plug on the i840 chipset. Well I have not seen a word of this massive problem with the i840 chipset and I myself have not had any problems with my Tyan 2400 so what do we do now? People who make false statements should be hung upside-down by there balls till they are dead, dead, dead. hehe, Just kidding, come on people let's get our facts straight before we say something. ... -
I have a dual CPU system and don'thave any problems from my SB Live card.
