NO ****!!!! I realize what is going on, but it so stupid when someone posts a thread about when something is going to be released when they have no clue. Just ****in wait and things will be released when they are ready. That's like the SB Live drivers. There must have been a 100 people *****in that they where no available when CL said they woudld be. Like *****in about it will make then release it any faster. ...

Well it's Tuesday and no service pack, not that I need it since beta 1 is working fine. But I find it funny how people who post threads about something being released, when clearly they have no idea what they are talking about. Like id software always would say. It will be released "When it's done" ...

GUYS! GUYS! Don't you see a pattern here, it's not just a SB Live problem but a harware problem in general. Everyone who is having problems should examine other hardware in there PC. You motherboard or scsi card could be the blame, it could be anything. Most likley it's your motherboard, I've ran my Sblive on an Asus P3B-F with nopt problems. I have since upgraded to duals cpu's but everything works great for me. Old and new drivers work fine. You need to investigate what other piece of hardware could be causing your SBlive to not function right, and replace it if need be or go with another sound card. Creative as we know is not going to fix your problems anytime soon. ... ------------------ My Windows 2000 System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB Onboard Intel 82559 NIC 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W 1 - Maxtor 60 Gig (IDE) SB Live Platinum Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Hercules Geforce 2 64meg Dual V2 Cards, for D2 Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor ... the i840 - end of the road...beginning of the hell for the p
Ronin replied to arcus's topic in Hardware
Ya, That's my point exactly what would you use that system for. I have 24 servers at my office all of which are either Compaq or clones built by myself. They are all scsi raid-5 and are either single PII or PIII and they are using high-end mb. They don't have the Geforce or any of that other crap. I would imagine if I threw all that stuff into them then they would not run right etiher. But you simply don't do that when building a server. The memory is right but all the other hardware is a problem. I'm not trying to start anything but...what the HELL is that system being used for. My personal system uses the same MB, but I don't have all that stuff thrown into it. I think I'm going to go home tonight and try to replicate his problem on my system. I think I could grab enough stuff here at the office to make it happen, then I'll be posting a message with my problems in the morning. Na I'm just kidding. I'm waiting with baited breath to see the news on Intel and Tyan's web sites regarding the recall of every i840 MB out there. The i840 MB has been out just as long as the ill faited i820 I think we would have known about the problem a long time ago. Still I'm not saying that's it not true, just think it's an isolated case. ... -

What is that computer going to be used for? Those specs are really strange. Hope it's not a server. I hope it's someones gaming rig or something. I'm not trying to be an ass just want to understand why you would be having such a problem. I know at least 4 people who have that board and are not having problems. Now they are using them in an enterprise environment. ... -

By the time Win2001 is out or whatever they are going to call it, most people myself included will already have upgraded to something better. Well at least the hardcore people will have. So this so called problem with the i840 will in no way mess up my plans for upgrading. ... -

I'm curious? What problems are or where you having? I'll wait and see if and when there is an announcement on there web site regarding the problem. This is the first I have heard of the i840 having problems. Intel is not saying anything about it, Tyan is not saying anything about it. There was a post not to long ago on this board from someone who was having problems with his 2400 and he reported that tech support was going to release a bios update to fix his problems. I have not seen any such update on there site. The latest bios release is 2 months old. So not that I don't believe you but I'll wait for concrete news on the i840 being dead as you say it is. I'm real curious to know what the major flaw with the i840 chipset is??? .. ... -

WOW! That's interesting. I have the same MB and have not had any problems out of it. I did have a memory problem but that was due to the fact that I was trying to use ****ass memory. Sorry to hear you have had peoblems, but I will not be sending my board back. It's working great. Someone needs to do a study as to why there is a group of people that have problems with there SB Live no matter what drivers they use. And then there is the other group like myself that has had no problems at all running any of the drivers. I think the problem that people are having lies with some other piece of harware in there machine, like maybe there MB or something. Like I said I have not had any problems, so I would be curious to find out why other people are. ... ------------------ My Windows 2000 System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W SB Live Platinum Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Hercules Geforce 2 64meg Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor ... Is there anyone successfully using a Voodoo 2 card and a Geforce card in the same box under W2K? I was thinking if I could get my hands on a Voodoo 2 card I could play Diablo II and some other games under W2K. Or is there way for a Voodoo 3 and a Geforce to coexist in the same system, because I have one of them laying arounf collecting dust. I used the drivers you sent me to install the board, then after things where working I figuired i would try to upgrade to the new drivers. Once I did and rebooted my system there where no problems at all. It's installed under Sound,Video and Game Controllers. I installed a second board last night so now I have SLI. Not that is will help with D2 but I had one so I installed it. ...

You may not want to run your V2, but for me I had no choice since I was having a problem running my Geforce 2 64meg card. Since D2 supports glide and I had one of the cards sitting around not doing anything I gave it a try. The graphics are much better since I could not get D2 to work at all with my GF2 and W2K. That's a good enough reason for me. ...

Well it worked. Adding that old V2 card makes life much better when playing Diablo II. I would suggest to anyone, if you have an old V2 laying around slap it your box it will come in handy. ...

I have a Scsi Toshiba 10x DVD drive. Finding scsi related stuff is not hard, you just need to know where to look. Try the mom and pop computer stores. Or you can try this web site. http://www.cdw.com ...

This whole thing is so funny, No matter what MS does, no matter what OS they release we will have these stupid arguments about the same things over and over again. If *****in about stuff is what gets everyone through there day and if *****in is what you think is going to change the software industry then keep dreaming. Because no matter what you do and what say MS will not change there buisness practices to suit us gamers. Be happy with W2K for what it is, or just go back to 98 because at least you can run all your games. ...

Here is what worked for me. A. Make sure you have PNP OS enabled in the bios and that you are not forcing any IRQ in the Bios, and that you have the Power Management set to ACPI in the Bios. 1.Disable the onbaord NIC by using the jumper. 2. Do a clean install of W2K, install the drivers for your Geforce card. 3. Shutdown the computer and remove the jumper. 4. Restart W2K and let it find and install the drivers for the onboard NIC card, I'm not using the Tyan drivers. If you do the above everything should work just fine. It worked for me and I have no problems at all. You may notice if you go into contol panel and look at the IRQ settings that W2K has wierd IRQ's for your hardware. Don't worry it's just W2K way of IRQ sharing. Just leave everything alone and you should be fine. E-mail me if you need anymore help. ... ------------------ My System: Dual Intel 850's Tyan Thunder 2400 MB 512 Megs Ram Adaptec 39160 Ultra 160 1 - 18 Gig Cheetah - U160 2 - 18 Gig Cheetah U2W SB Live Platinum Plextor 12/4/32 - Burner Plextor 40x UW CD-Rom 10x Sony DVD Drive Hercules Geforce 2 64meg Viewsonic PF815 22" Monitor

I have used both PC100 and PC133 memory on my Tyan Thunder 2400. It supports both memory types. I owned the Supermicro mb in question and both work just fine. I will say this. Make sure that what ever memory you use that both sticks of mem are the same. These mb are very picky when it come to mem. Just make sure that you use the same mem. You will have to use memory in pairs you will not be able to get away with using just one stick of mem. But they are both great motherboards. ..
