This my be out of the blue here but what does this DXR2 installation have to do with this message thread of problems using a voodoo3? This would deserve its own thread or it should be in one related to the DXR2.

Hey sorry bout that, the T3 server I'm using for holding the files to save on my bandwidth is having issues. I actually work for the company that provides tech support for it =) and all I can say is it will be fixed whenever the damn guys get around to fixing it. Please be patient.

I agree 100% I was the victem of that lovely dx7 if fake insult and I tell ya when you work at helping people out on this board and you get those certain individuals like that who basically insult your intelligence it is quite irritating and insulting. Why should I be wasting my time helping someone who can't figure the basics out, when I could be helping someone who turely requires and deserves it?

Viper, Please do a little research before you insult someone. Did you read the readme in the dx7 file? It says to replace older files because my good friend dx7 was finished before these builds of win2k are done. The versions of dx7 in win2k are newer cause MS is still developing it PASSED dx7. The dx7 is NOT A FAKE. I resent that comment. Why the hell would I install a fake file in my pc as well as offer it to everyone else on this board? Not to mention I have had excellent results with that file and so have many other people. I have upgraded win2k from 2128 to 2151 to 2167 and in each instance it did NOT overwrite those *old* files with newer ones....hmmmm whys that?? It should overwrite fake files shouldn't it? Well geee maybe it's cause there are the proper final dx7 files. So get off your ass and try them out. BTW the dx7 files you are dopwnloading from chameleon is the exact same as mine. 2167 is very nice. Quite a noticable speed improvement over 2151 and rc2. All around feels faster and more solid with each build.

No idea, win2k has done that to me a few times in odd places. Burning a rewriteable cd, before DX7 It would happen if I won or finished a race of MCM. Wierd stuff. Today had my PC lock up twice for no reason once in 2151 and once in 2167. Wacky stuff I tell ya.

I say voodoo3 cause I have had the most success with it. As well as the drivers for it are win2k 2114 voodoo3.sys and dll's with all the extra files. These drivers work VERY Good compared to what I've read and heard from TNT users If you go to http://seldzar.dhs.org and click on My box you will see a list of games I've actually played with my V3 on Win2k. Also you get the 3rd API option of glide so if D3D doesn't work lots of games support glide as well which makes your success rate of getting games running much higher. If I had a copy of everquest I would try it but I do recall reading about someone with a voodoo3 playing Everquest. Does the game run and crash or does it not ever start and generate errors?

The best supported video card in win2k right now would have to be voodoo3. Best thing is it's cheap too. So if your itchen to get games going in win2k get a voodoo3 for now.

Try it and find out. The only person who can answer your specific problems is you by installing the newer build to see if it helps. It takes about an hour and you don't need to do nothing...select upgrade and sit back.

Believe me it does complete desktop remote control. You move your mouse it moves your mouse on your pc at home. Read a little more about it.

Webview again you are missing the point. Just because RC1 is feature complete doesn't mean that you are using FINAL, FULLY COMPATABLE drivers from your 3d card manufacturer. Also you may need patches for the games because ALL of those games were coded for win95/98 and may address memory that is in use by win2k or require resources that are in use or may access resources in specific ways that win2k won't allow......need i go on?. The problem is NOT the OS the OS is fully DX Coimpatable. It's your video card drivers and the game itself that are the issues. NOT the OS. Be patient and wait for the final OS and once the final is out wait for the final drivers from your 3d card manufaturer then bother the game developers for a patch if it still not working right. Till then happy gaming =)

Try remotely anywhere, it's by far the best remote admin tool I've ever used. You can setup secure SSL connections and do pretty much anything you could while you were sitting at your pc. There's a link to the latest build at www.betanews.com

Viper, your problem is the tnt2. The drivers just aren't that great and installing them to work good is tricky and lucky at best. Very few have it them working. I'm using a voodoo3 3000 and here's a quick list of the games i've personally played: Unreal Tournament Quake3 Command & Conquer 2 Draken: Order of the Flame Age of Empires 2 MDK Shadowman Railroad Tycoon Motocross madness Pharaoh Test Drive Off Road 3 Demolition Racer Dirt Track Racing Extreme 500 Grand Theft Auto 2 Jagged Alliance Links LS 2000 Sinistar : Unleashed Snowmobile Racing Championship 2000 Descent Freespace 2 Fox Sports Nhl2000 I dare you to tell me again that gaming doesn't work in win2k =) People are missing the point here. This is a BETA OS, ie. NOT FINISHED! And we are using hacked/beta 3d card drivers. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but try not to form a strong negative opinion untill you have all the proper information such as a final win2k and final 3d drivers from your 3d card company and then try gaming. Do keep in mind that some games will require patches. P.S ParaDoX, win2k is a gaming platform or else they wouldn't have put DX in. Remember MS is counting on win2k and the NT kernal to be the future of MS's operating systems therefore game compatability is essential.

well I wouldn't exactly call win2k a piece of **** just because it doesn't work for YOU!. Many people here have it working flawlessly, like me, and love it. You seem to forget this is a BETA OS, not the final therefore more work is being done. Also you probably have NO official drivers for all your hardware, TnT2? nope not official. Your scsi card probably will have proper drivers when the OS is final. Any drivers that come with win2k are basic drivers to ensure windows compatability nothing more. And the dumpings from your ISP could just very well be a telco issue or an issue with your ISP. Or perhaps a simple config problem in your modem setup and your networking setup. Did you adjust your MTU, MSS & Rwin settings for optimal dialup access? There are many many reasons why win2k might not work great for you but it's not a piece of **** OS. You do realize how much MS has to deal with when working on win2k? I'm astounded they have this much compatability and solidity so far. Give it time and they should have all working good and then we can all enjoy this kick ass OS to it's fullest =)

Go here http://seldzar.dhs.org and download the voodoo3 drivers and all 3 should work. They work for me.

Build 2031 isn't Rc2, it's Beta 3 I believe. The latest build thats going around is 2151 which is just before Rc3. Rc2 is build 2128. [This message has been edited by Seldzar (edited 02 November 1999).]

Opps, thats right eh? No D3D with the voodoo1 & 2 =)

Strange to give up so easily. There is an INF file on this site that enables d3d opengl and glide for your voodoo2. You jsut need to do some hunting.

Well does Motocross Madness work in NT? I don't think so, does UT run in D3D on NT? No, Does Draken, Shadowman, Demolition Racer, GTA2, GP 500, Snowmobile Racing 2000, Testdive Off Road 3 work in D3D in NT? No. Gaming is not a joke in win2k and the "not present" garbage that is displayed in V3 properties means nothing, that control panel applet doesn't work correctly. Remember here were using hacked drivers, just wait untill 3dfx releases offical drivers and everything will rock. The majority of games work fine for me. How did you come to that conclusion? Q3 works fine in win2k just don't bother trying SMP. Which is what this postis about SMP NOT working not Q3 not working :0

Try turning down your hardware acceleration. Right click on your speaker icon in your task bar and select adjsut audio properties. Select the audio tab and click the advanced button under Sound Play Back. Click the performance tab and bring down your hardware acceleration. or you could do it in dxdiag.exe

Actually those are excellent questions. It's the small things that make the difference. I myself wouldn't mind knowing either.

I have the Pioneer 10x IDE drive and i have no problems anywhere. Works great!
