  7. Mike - please do post whether or not this work. I am in the market for an ata66 controller and used to have a be6 but hated the hpt366. If they fixed it I would get the addon card because of problems with the Promise Controller I have heard in Win2k (similar problems to the hpt366). Piracy...

The contention, however, appears to be over your point concerning who should/shouldn't be using Advanced Server, not over whether we should be attempting to filter, shun, or censor those suspected of using pirated versions of Win2k. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Piracy...

Frankly, a big reason that I hang around here is because of what I learn about troubleshooting problems. I frankly do not care about whether or not the user has pirated software nor do I want to try and infer whether that is the case. If that happens, this forums runs the risk of turning into a flame fest. If you have concerns about piracy, turn the person in to piracy@microsoft.com and let them investigate it. I want to learn as much as possible about different Windows 2000 related problems, regardless of whether or not Windows 2000 was obtained legitimately. The exception would be if someone was asking for help for their dual boot win98/win2k version 2078 (i.e. internal ms build) now that the final has been released. As I said, we are asking for trouble if we start assuming who is and who isn't using a pirated build. Use your God-given right to narc someone out if you object to what you assume they are doing. 11. Norton Ghost 6 - works great. The problem with your setup was, I think, moving from a one partition setup to a two partition setup - did you try partitioning the full 10 gigs as fat32 (your 4 gig is partitioned with fat32 isn't it?) and just copying the contents of one drive to another? You might be able to find a trial version of Ghost 6 to create an image of the 4 gig drive and transfer it to the 10 gig. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I don't know where you have been for the past few days, but this package IS Liveware for Windows 2000 leaked by Creative Labs. It is, however, a beta (as evidence by the section of the install where a screen comes up and says "readme to appear here" or words to that effect). There are no hacks or workarounds to install them and they install and uninstall just fine (unlike the LW3 workaround). ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! liveware2000 confused please answer

Just upload them to the site that I posted and post the link. That is not my site, just an anon dump site out in the ethereal <g>. FWIW, the 6 rar's don't make a complete set, do they? One of the cab files is corrupted as well. Did everything install for you (including audiohq)? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! 16. I would try booting into safe mode and reinstalling the liveware package from there and seeing if that works. To have a sig, you need to go into "profile" and add it there, then make sure you check "Show signature:..." when replying or posting. 17. Sandoval - sorry I mistook you for being the one person I have ever heard of who has had that problem - then you are the second :-) As for Liveware 4 beta - you are using Liveware 1 that CL has modified to work with Win2k. Did you have this problem with the Dell drivers? If not, did you simply permit the install routine to uninstall the Dell drivers and update your drivers or did you try to uninstall them all beforehand? Have you tried running the install again, making sure that you have turned off any virus protection software, cleaned out your temp directory, and close down all other apps while installing? That might be a good bet to try first. Lastly, had you tried to install the Liveware 3 workaround authored by Anthony Toste and advertised on this website (involves installing NT4 drivers)? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! 18. No idea - it has never happened here and I have only heard about it once before and that may have been from you (?) - obviously something is conflicting with that file - did you have the LW3 workaround with NT4 drivers? The 6-piece rar set never worked because it was incomplete. I used the 15mb version which only contained the necessities and no fluff (e.g. no demo's, soundfonts, midi samples, lava, etc... just mixer, speaker, audiohq, launcher, and recorder). ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Liveware 2000 beta for Win2k HERE

Hmmm... wonder what your guys' systems all have in common. If you make sure you empty out your \documents and settings\(username)\local settings\temp dir all the files should decompress automatically into that directory (as do all of creative's packaged drivers and software) and then the registration screen comes up (which you can cancel), and then after 10 seconds or so while the entire 15 meg archive unloads into that temp dir under a directory called lw2k, the main setup for liveware 2000 comes up. You can even watch your temp dir as it is happening and copy the files, if you want, and try to install them without going through the decompression (making sure you reboot first). Good luck :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Reinstalling Win2000

MSGuy - If I change some hardware and decide that I want to start fresh when it comes to device drivers, however want all my software to remain installed, can this be accomplished by installing a new version of Win2k Pro over an existing install (not an upgrade install) or does an upgrade install accomplish the same thing?
