I would not recommmend overriding that setting - if the drivers don't support udma or dma then they don't support udma. If you have selected DMA if available, then if it is not selected you will hose your system otherwise. This isn't like the little checkmark in Win9x where you can override the setting. Check with SIS for newer drivers. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Seldzar - he is referring to packet writing software (software that allows one to use their writer as a regular drive where files can be dragged to the burner to be saved there from within explorer). ylekiote - I don't know what could be causing that. You need to install Direct CD 2.5d (making sure you install the floppy106.exe from http://webcheckup.adaptec.com/downloads/floppy106.exe ) to make sure that your recorder is supported. Uninstall 2.5d, make sure that you have the latest aspi layer, make sure you don't have Nero installed because it conflicts with DirectCD, and follow the other instructions provided. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

I have a USR Sportster Voice 56K and it works just fine. Is is irq sharing with anything? I might suggest using the jumper on the modem and configuring the com port and irq manually and see if Windows accomodates it. Strange.... Make sure you uninstall all remnants of the modem from Add/Remove Hardware Wizard, including the voice components if they exist. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Alas - only DirectCD 2.5d. However, it also nukes hibernation and standby support. It works well, however, in Win2k final. I am anxiously awaiting an update. I sent Prassi an email (I am actually a registered user of abCD - lol) and asked them about NT/ Win2000 compatibility. There silence has been deafening. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Sorry Neo - not making any sense at all. The P5A uses an Ali chipset (I looked because you weren't volunteering information - if you want help you have to contribute more than "it doesn't work"). If I am to understand you correctly, you have tracked down the shutdown problem to improper Ali Windows 2000 drivers? Did you go to Asus's website to see if you have the latest bios? Since there are 3 different P5A's I can't give you much more help. Check in other places, not just here. I just did a search on dejanews for P5A, Win2k, and power and got a bunch of hits. Have you looked at any of those? You might find some other users having similar problems <hint>. What's the old saying about helping those who help themselves??? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Win2k didn't autodetect your printer? Uninstall the one under other devices, click scan for hardware changes in device manager, and see if it is redetected. What kind of printer is it? Are you using Win2k drivers for it? More information please. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Then your mobo isn't acpi compliant and switching off acpi is obviously not the solution to your problem. I would hit up the asus newsgroup and post a question in there, or see if the issue has already been addressed. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Yep - did it yesterday. Went to the drug store and got a Y splitter which plugs into the front speaker output allowing 2 stereo connectors to plug into it (front and back). It's better for me than having features disabled via liveware for NT. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

HuH? I you enable "DMA if available" under the primary or secondary IDE channels in IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers under device manager, what happens? If the device is capable of DMA or UDMA modes, that will be detected and selected. What type of device are you referring to? What is listed in Current Transfer Mode? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

If the P5A is an intel chipset then support will be built-in to Windows 2000. Most other chipset support is built-in as well, especially for a board as old as the P5A. The newer boards (e.g. Athlon boards) may require patches, etc... (I think <g> ). Shrink ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

First you will need to make sure that Win2k isn't installed in acpi mode (check device manager/computer and it probably says Standard PC - that is okay). Then restart your computer and when the initial screen comes up (detecting hard drives, etc...), either press <del> or F2 and that will get your bios utility started. Under Power Management there should be an option related to ACPI - you can disable that. I don't think that is going to make much difference, though, but it is worth a try. Is your mobo a non-intel motherboard? If so, hunt around for patches for it. Also, I have no idea what peripherals you have running, so it is very difficult to give any idea about driver problems, etc... Maybe a little more detail about your system. BTW, IMHO 64mb will be somewhat sluggish with your system. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

I hated my BE6 - I bought it, in large part, due to the ATA66 controller. It was nothing but headaches. When I wasn't using the ata66 controller, the board was fine, but not as stable as my generic BX chipset mobo (Soltek SL-67B). Also, it was the pickiest board I have ever used when it comes to irq sharing. I would be more inclined to go and get a BX6 rev. 2 board and put a promise ata66 controller in it and steer wide of Highpoint technology. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! -

So you get your icons all figured out and now you got yourself in trouble again, huh <g>? I am sorry to tell you that you will have a very difficult time uninstalling liveware 3 because it was NOT designed for Windows 2000. As you may have read before you installed it, the only reliable way of getting rid of Liveware is reinstalling Windows 2000 from scratch. Good luck :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

There's no fuss over diskeeper - I find it to actually be a mediocre defrag utility that takes too bloody long. I prefer Perfect Disk 2000 - it will defrag the system files and MFT, in addition to moving files based on how often they are accessed to the back or front of the disk. With respect to NU - I am certain there will be a version for win2k and you will get a lot of differing opinions concerning whether or not you should use it. I am leaning towards no, simply because of how often NU screws things up and how a screw up in NT means a reinstall because you have an unbootable computer. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

fare - you have me stumped! I am not sure whether I would have changed the location of the temp dir - try putting it back to the default setting (i.e. documents and settings/username/temp) and see if that works. I had it installed on 2128 without any hitches - are your com ports properly installed without conflict (that shouldn't matter actually). Humour me and install the newest package from http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/dt303.zip and see if that works. Good luck :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
