    Trouble with Live!Ware3 and Win2k

ROTFL Anthony's a hacker, Anthony's a hacker, Anthony's a hacker! LOL That's getting pretty tiring, isn't it? LOL Hey Anthony - what were you doing this afternoon when ZDNet was being DoS'ed? Hmmm... LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist <g>. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    PalmPilot organizer software

fare- not much information there to go on, you know :-) All I can tell you is that palm desktop installs fine on Win2k Final. So: 1. Are you installing with admin priveleges? 2. What build of win2k are you using? 3. Is the problem running the software or installing it? If the problem is installing it then go to the temp dir (under documents and settings\your user name\temp and make sure that directory is cleaned out then try to install again. 4. Download the palm desktop software from 3com (there is a new version anyways) because you install files may be hosed for some reason. Let me know what happens and try to give a little more detail about your system and what is actually happening. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Does 3Com LAN cards worth their price ??

Yeah - great support on my USB network adapter. No new driver since March and nothing for Win2k. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

  5. You will find what you seek at http://boardserver.mycomputer.com/list.html?u=chameleon13&f=1 Look for the thread entitled Diskeeper Patch. You're welcome:-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
  6. With respect to why the link got pulled, it appears that the powers that govern the board ruled that a link to an update distributed by someone other than the software distributor, and from a location other than their ftp or website, was considered warez. From now on, if we have links to post, let's do it on chameleon's forum and just post here that the information will be there so as to not pi** off the landlords <g>. BTW, you're welcome <g>. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    Partition Magic 5 & NTFS 2k

In my dreams - lol! Sorry I was talking out of my a**. What you could do is create a ghost image of the ntfs5 partition using Norton Ghost 6 and put it on another hard drive (if you have it). Then restore the partition but you can specify a different size (I think). How about just backing up your data and reinstalling onto one ntfs5 partition <g>. Sorry I can't be of more help. You could also wait for Powerquest to release the patch so that PM5 will work in win2000. Should be within the next couple of weeks. Good luck! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    Partition Magic 5 & NTFS 2k

If you already have an ntfs 5 partition you will have to use partion magic 5's boot diskette. Using version 4 will hose your system. Another idea would be to resize it using the disk manager built into win2k (would that work???). Good luck! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    Packet Writing in Win2k

I just clean installed win2k - what a great feeling <g> - but haven't put any cd burning apps back on. I know directcd will work but it screws up hibernation. Does anyone know of any other packet writing apps that work with win2k final and don't bugger up acpi features? Thanks :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    can't go in hibernation

That shouldn't make a difference. Have you updated the aspi layer from adaptec? Are you running some other disk utility in the background? Sorry - can't think of anything else - try disconnecting the dvdrom and see if you can hibernate with it disconnected. That might at least help you narrow things down. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    can't go in hibernation

Do you have a decoder card for the DVD? Not trying to be difficult, but I still don't have enough info. Hibernation is working fine for me on a soltek sl67b (intel bx chipset) mobo with a couple of quantum kx hard drives and a cd burner and cd rom on the secondary ide channel. You might want to put the dvd on the secondary channel as master. If there is a decoder card, the drivers for it may be keeping it from hibernating. Good luck. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    can't go in hibernation

Gonna need some hardware info here - what type of hard disk controller is in your system? Intel? AMD? Via? Need system specs. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    DirectCD in Win2k

Lael - there is no official patch for win2k for directcd. Those that exist will make it work (2.5d works fine in win2k final) however, the result is that it screws up hibernation. It is usable if you don't mind that. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
  14. Okay everyone, here's the file: "Shrink you know better then this" It works like a charm and the instructions are in the zip. Thanks to Fargo! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! [This message has been edited by SHS (edited 06 February 2000).]
  15. He he - Fargo sent me the update and it worked perfectly in the final of win2k. I am at work right now but will send it out to those interested. Please don't post - "send it to me - send it to me" - instead I will post a site where it can be downloaded. If it is not kosher to post the site here, someone let me know where you want me to post the url. Later! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

  17. Yep - same error - final retail version of win2k pro. Bummer. It sure would be nice if Fargo shared the original file that he obtained that originally started this thread :-) Defrag-tease! LOL ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
  18. Fargo - as I asked before, do you still have it and if so, will you share it? Otherwise, why post about an update that no longer exists and no one can get <g>? ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Help, I can fix my prob but it comes back?

You need to give us more info regarding your system. Did you check for irq conflicts? Does the NIC work in another computer (might be a bum card)? More info is needed about your system. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

Just download the ir program from hauppauge. It works great for me! Do either of you get a static noise when you change channels? Also, does the audio from the Wintv die after the computer has hibernated? Thanks! ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!

    False Claims of compatability

Try this - I have a USB Network adapter from the same company. In the .inf from 3com it actually mentions nt5! However it won't install. When I emailed them I got the standard "we don't support beta operating system...". However, practically every other manufacturer of USB Network adapters have beta drivers released. 3Com is an especially bad company for this sort of thing - put them in the same boat with Creative Labs:-( BTW, if anyone knows how to get the 3Com USB Network adapter working in win2k final, please post <g>. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO!
