Unfortunately that won't work because, if the proper drivers are not loaded beforehand (unless all the machines have the regular intel controllers) the machines won't boot and you will need to do a repair on each one. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! There's no need for any driver. It is detected and installed natively. If your firewall is catching everything, then you are doing all you can. What is the ip of the offending computer? Remember, in all liklihood it is someone other than that who is running a trojan off of that ip. Shrink

Yep - stupid NAV2001 introduces the IRPStacksize error and I started getting winmgmt errors after I installed it. NAV7 Corporate doesn't cause the IRPStacksize errors, just Nav2001 and prior iterations of the non-Corporate NAV's. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Do you by any chance have a palm handheld device? If so, it is a known bug that some of the cradles will cause winme to hang. If so, 3Com is handing out adapters that fix the problem. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! What mobo and hd controller are you running? I have never seen that message before. Did you fdisk /mbr the hard drive as well? Emilee1 - please post the actual message you are getting when it reboots and you select Windows 2000 Professional Setup. Your configuration in WinME shouldn't make any difference. Hey all. In Whistler Pro (not Personal) build 2257, an upgrade install of Windows 2000 is not permitted. Does anyone know how to force an upgrade install? There are some custom mobo's (such as those used by Dell) that employ a nonstandard connection to the power supply. It could be that your power supply is meant to support those types of mobos in addition to those using traditional atx connectors. At least that's my guess :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! Well NormanSmiley - looks like you didn't take your smiley pills this morning. Seeing people's system specs should allow other folks to troubleshoot their own, in addition to troubleshooting the poster's problem. It is a hell of a lot easier to do that when the system specs are listed in the sig than having to type it out each time. Senior member or not - being an ******* and not posting helpful comments is certainly not a way to attract help and support from other folks. ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! It is pretty sharp-looking and seems more responsive than Win2k Pro. However, anyone installing it should be prepared for compatiblity issues (as in the case with Win2k) - my Epson Stylus Color 860's status monitor crashes in Whistler Personal build 2257. I imagine that cd burning and network apps such as firewalls and NAT might be problematic at this time. Did any of you check out the Personal Firewall option? That looks promising :-) If anyone has a line on a Pro version (that will upgrade Win2k Pro) that is newer than 2250, please cd me at 43462208 and I will be happy to line you up with some stuff in return :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! I would suggest that 128mb is the minimum recommended amount for Windows 2000 Pro, not 192mb. Windows 2000 manages the memory quite well and, aside from disabling unneeded services, I would just leave it as is. Good luck :-) ------------------ Shrink 92% of the things we worry about don't happen - but the other 8% DO! A partition magic boot disk set (2 disks) will do that for you, provided that the disk you want to convert is not over 2GB (for FAT). Shrink

I just got the card today. I have an Abit BE6-II and had 2 hd's on the hpt366 and am running windows 2000 pro with SP1. I first installed the card in ide slot 5 with the hpt enabled. Rebooted and loaded the 1.0 drivers. Instead of restarting then, I removed the hpt366 from device manager. So far no problem... I then shut down, disconnected the hd's from the hpt366 and connected them to separate channels on the ata100 card with the system drive on the first channel and then restarted the computer, went into the bios and disabled the hpt366 controller- then restarted the computer. Windows 2000 booted just fine to the GUI, logged me in, etc... and as the remainder of the programs were loaded from device manager, BANG - bsod - kmode exception caused by ntfs.sys (I am using fat32 on both hard drives). I then rebooted the computer and windows 2000 would not restart as it indicated that a file (sorry, forgot the name) would not load because it was corrupted or missing. I had not created ERD's (that'll learn me - lol), but decided to go back to the hpt366's and restore the system drive using Ghost. The only thing that I figure could have caused this was the fact that the system drive had been repartitioned into 2 partitions by Partition Magic some time ago (with no difficulties) and there are apparently problems with partition magic - though I figured that this pertained to using Partition Magic when the drive was connected to the Promise controller. One other thing could be the fact that I have a usr sportster voice in the isa slot. Aside from the config I mentioned, I have a PIII-650, 192mb pc100, 2 quantum fireball kx hd's, a voodoo3 agp, wintv in the first pci slot, and sblive in the second pci slot, and a 3com NIC in the 4th slot. I would appreciate any advice you folks might be able to provide. Thanks in advance! Shrink

Did you try Norton Personal Firewall? It is getting broken far less than BID or ZA when updates to Windows 2000 have come out. Shrink

From what I understand, the 3Com Sportster Voice USB now works in Windows 2000. The trick will be finding a modem that works in Windows 2000 AND Talkworks Pro. I understand that the USB modems may have a hard time with Talkworks. Why not an external modem that runs off one of the serial ports? Check symantec to see if the 3com usb modem works.
